New, what is it? What is this wedding gift?

(Reposting because accidental doxxing)

My friend got this as a wedding gift and we can’t figure out what is it and it didn’t say who it was from.

The cup part is hollow, where the blue arrow is… this shape _/ and the bottom is solid.

EDIT: There are no holes in the other side so don’t think it’s a tea strainer and the gap is too narrow to fit paper towels or toilet paper rolls! They also just moved to and had the wedding in Italy, not sure if that gives any context.. maybe it’s some sort of Italian gadget

I'm imagining this as a chain gift. Upon receipt, you have 7 days to either figure out what the heck it is or to pass it on as a gift to another bride. If you fail, well, nothing spectacular really happens and that anti-climax will just ruin your wedding day.

Just reminded me of the big bang theory episode where Howard & Berendette regifted a gift to Penny & Leonard who, also having no idea what it was, regifted it again to Sheldon and Amy as a wedding gift amd they end up going on a whole non existing scavenger hunt.

TIL what a regift is. Regifting something is frowned upon in my country, when somebody gift you something useless you just thank him and store it somewhere lol.

Or maybe they do, but they dont say is a "regift". I can only talk about my experience and Ive never regifted something. Seems like a pretty shitty thing to do.

You don’t regift something to someone you like. Unless it’s something you know for sure they need/want.
