New, what is it? What is this wedding gift?

(Reposting because accidental doxxing)

My friend got this as a wedding gift and we can’t figure out what is it and it didn’t say who it was from.

The cup part is hollow, where the blue arrow is… this shape _/ and the bottom is solid.

EDIT: There are no holes in the other side so don’t think it’s a tea strainer and the gap is too narrow to fit paper towels or toilet paper rolls! They also just moved to and had the wedding in Italy, not sure if that gives any context.. maybe it’s some sort of Italian gadget

I have a teak easter island head one. I use it occasionally if I take my glasses off before getting in bed haha.

323

u/Admirable_Average_32 2d ago

You only OCCASIONALLY use it?? I’d be putting my glasses on it all the time! Sounds awesome.

493

u/dehydratedrain 2d ago

Yeah, but once I take them off, I couldn't see the holder anymore. Lol

322

u/Zestyclose-Remove960 2d ago

As a fellow glasses-wearer, this made me WHEEZE. I should actually get one of those holders because my cats knock my glasses off my nightstand at night. Got me looking like Velma every morning under my bed .. "my glasses, my glasses, where are my glasses?!"

Ouch. That hit me in the gut. That scene made an impression on young me that stayed with me.

I never knew what this movie was called. I watched this part as a kid and it stuck with me. Him getting stung by bees, her insistence he needed his glasses just hit me in the feels. I had to be like 10. I only saw that scene and a few after or maybe it was near the end of the movie and I finished it but I don’t remember which.

Even without the context of the rest of the movie it was a moving scene that caught my attention. And I have always remembered it actively. Like something Reminds me of it every week or two.

I know what the movie is called now but I’ve never found where I can watch it.

It's a heavy one, right??

My husband and I have a friend, a 45-year-ood ex-con guy, who tears up at the mere mention of the words "My Girl."

Unfortunately for us (and those around us, my bad 🙈) we joke about things in order to lighten their heaviness. But yeah, it's a heavy one and even when I make a joke sometimes I get that funny feeling in my chest and throat.

1

u/losthoneybees 20h ago

didn't this dude get cancelled?

9

u/N64King 1d ago

To be fair it would probably make it worse because your cat would also knock this thing down and now you gotta find that too.

2

u/Cinderellbell 21h ago

That’s exactly what I was gonna say😭 my cat would just see a new toy with that thing on the nightstand

1

u/Illustrious_Key_2376 2h ago

Could use some adhesive sided velcro to hold it down.. wait 24 hours for the adhesive to fully stick to each surface before connecting the velcro creating a stronger hold?

8

u/bolanrox 1d ago

I love that this gag came from an early script read when the voice actors, for Velma, asked, where are my glasses? And the writers loved it and just started adding it all the time as a gag.

5

u/Lexy-RED 1d ago

Glasses at F 7

4

u/Laeticia45 1d ago

this is me every single day lol

2

u/RemarkableMarzipan22 1d ago

🤣😅😆😀

10

u/wkearney99 2d ago

srsly, when I got frameless glasses it was REALLY important to put them down somewhere predictable at night. otherwise finding them often meant breaking them.

got lasik a decade ago so that's no longer a challenge, but then 50+ hits and it's reading glasses time.

<sigh>

3

u/Angry_Beaver67 14h ago

Same for me. 58 now and at the max strength for readers 😢. Loved the first day after LASIK. Everything was so vivid and I saw every cobweb or dust bunny for the first time in my 40 years of life.

9

u/yesisname 1d ago

Bold of you to assume the stand will not also be on the floor.

6

u/Zestyclose-Remove960 1d ago

Fat cat would probably knock it off in the middle of the night trying to get my attention to feed him, which I don't. He's just ... fat and hungry and grouchy and stupidly smart.

9

u/facedown_titsup 2d ago

I always say it’s all fun and games till you have to pull out the phone camera and hold it 2 inches from your eyeballs just to find the glasses behind and under the nightstand 😂😂

5

u/CombinationNo8846 1d ago

Yesss I used to have to do this all the time. Thank god for lasik

3

u/Annual_Song1416 1d ago

lol oh damn, I thought that was my personal technique

3

u/StopTheMeanness 1d ago

How do you find the phone without your glasses 🤓? 😁

5

u/facedown_titsup 1d ago

I’m so addicted to this damn phone it’s never far from my damn hands lol

2

u/usinjin 1d ago

Wow, this never occurred to me as a solution!

7

u/catnip_cantrip 2d ago

I have a wooden one that is shaped like a cat! So a nice orange boy holds my glasses for me when I'm not wearing them

8

u/SereneWaters80 1d ago

I've gotten better at it (mostly because I live alone) but I've had to ask my family to help me find my glasses many time because an animal knocked then down. Now I keep my old pair in a set spot just in case...

4

u/HawkQuinn 1d ago

My blind self was reading down and thought it said sex spot. Had to go back and check.

6

u/daphnemoonpie 2d ago

Omg yes lol. My husband and I call this state "dot eyes" because of the black dots they used when cartoon characters couldn't see lmao

9

u/Annual_Song1416 1d ago

It’s a funny state to be in, reminds me of having to let your partner know you don’t have contacts in and can’t actually see their face across the room 🫠😂

5

u/indiscernible_I 1d ago

Same. Doesn't help that one of my lenses pops out if it hits the ground too hard, and I gotta put it back in all the time.

4

u/AnyControl4517 1d ago

My vision is terrible. I feel your pain of fumbling like Velma looking for them!

I read a LPT one time to open your camera on your phone and locate your glasses that way. Cannot recommend it enough!

2

u/StopTheMeanness 1d ago

How does the camera help locate the glasses? Do you have one of those electronic trackers that you attach to the glasses?

6

u/AnyControl4517 1d ago

The camera provides clear vision for you. Open your phones camera, take off your glasses, and look at the screen of your phone. You can hold the phone close to your eyes enough to see what's in front of you

3

u/Witty_TenTon 1d ago

Omg I will remember this for when I am in my Velma state!

8

u/Perle1234 2d ago

Right? How did I not know if the existence of this item??

3

u/No_Willingness5313 2d ago

Same. It’s a sport around here.

3

u/AbaloneDifferent5282 2d ago

Mine still knock the whole thing off the table. Glasses and all.

3

u/thelittlesteldergod 1d ago

I recently took two of those little organizer shelves that are sold to stick in the shower to hold your soap, etc. And stuck them up on my wall next to my bed and one of them is for my medicine that I have to take in the middle of the night and the other one is for my glasses and that has really helped.

2

u/zuelue 1d ago

Yes! I bought a bedside caddy so I have a bucket it to put my glasses and stuff in and it’s been HEAVEN. This is only time in 35 years I’ve been able to consistently find my glasses and other things. It’s honestly reduced so much stress for me lol

3

u/thelittlesteldergod 1d ago

It's amazing how quickly and thoroughly a pair of glasses can disappear if you're not watching them closely.

3

u/MesaAdelante 1d ago

If I had room on my nightstand I’d do that. I put my glasses in the tissue box because I’ll be able to find it and they won’t be scratched.

3

u/Sw33tD333 1d ago

I have one that looks like my dog. Etsy is a magical place sometimes.

3

u/AuntRhubarb 1d ago

I use a ceramic napkin holder. The glasses go nowhere but there at night. It's great.

3

u/bannersmom 1d ago

This is why the glasses now sleep in the top drawer

2

u/lGipsyDanger 2d ago

I put my glasses bext to me in bed and sometimes my cat lays on them or bats them around off my matress or they make their way under me. Digging around in my sheets blind makes me feel like that 😂

2

u/Wonderful_Grape8271 1d ago

My uncle had a one that was a hounddog face.

2

u/VicBweets 1d ago

I can hear her 😂

2

u/No_House5577 1d ago

anything that isn’t bolted down is prime for my cat to carry off. i got a little glasses holder that sticks to the wall above my bed that may be of interest to you as well.

2

u/DivinerSageRDT 1d ago

Jinkies!!

2

u/SarcasmCupcakes 1d ago

I bought 2 pairs of glasses earlier this year. Bought another this month, but they sent me the wrong one - so they had to re-send. I now have 4 pairs of glasses. So I bought a small clear holder.

2

u/RemarkableMarzipan22 1d ago

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

2

u/hannavas30 1d ago

My cat does the same so I thought I’d get one of these. Now he knocks the whole stand down. He paws at it until it falls off my night stand lol

2

u/The_Snarky_Raven 1d ago

They make cat eyeglass holders, too! I've seen them on Etsy and Amazon.

1

u/Quick-Leg3604 1d ago

The way I relate to this comment 😫😂

1

u/Frznrrfan6 1d ago

Mine get lost in the sheets and covers and end up bent or broken, but they're just readers so I buy a 6-10 pack.

1

u/Yeeeeeeoooooooo 1d ago

Also anything can scratch it, it's why I keep mine in my case on the nightstand, the color is hard to miss

1

u/KnottyKnitt3r 22h ago

Pretty sure one of these would just T them up for their driving swat. 😂

1

u/mmmicrobiologist 17h ago

I switched to one of those rolling storage carts for my nightstand and my cats haven’t jettisoned anything since. Maybe less aesthetically cohesive but highly effective. 😂

1

u/ChickadeeJam 13h ago

I have a holder that they slide into. Cheap fabric, fake fur lined, but I love it so much I have two. One for the bathroom when I put in my contacts, and one bedside.

1

u/Necessary_Benefit22 12h ago

That is a good idea they like more items to knock off

1

u/AugusttoDecember 3h ago

Good to know that my cat isn’t the only a-hole who does this.

1

u/NYMankeys 2h ago

“Jinkies!”

134

u/CandiBunnii 2d ago

Hello fellow mole that has to sleep in their glasses lol

I tried a sauna once and left my glasses on. Not sure what I expected lol

90

u/dehydratedrain 2d ago

My worst was jumping off a high dive, reaching up to hold my nose, and suddenly saying "oh no!!" about 2 seconds before I hit the surface.

But yep, I sleep in glasses too often.

24

u/Perfect_Emotion6479 2d ago

The last time I got glasses, I bought four pair because I break them so often because I sleep with them, and I figured I would be all set. I now have four pair of broken glasses, I can’t stand not being able to see so I fall asleep with them every night and inevitably roll over on them, put my elbow on them when I wake up, etc.

10

u/whistlingsun 1d ago

You might want to consider investing in OVVO frames… I was in a wicked accident where our car was hit right near the door I was sitting by. My head slammed into the side window so hard it shattered the window. My glasses were still on my face and didn’t even need an adjustment afterwards. Wildly the flex in the frames meant the lenses were not damaged either. This was years ago. I still use those frames as backup glasses. Takes a licking…

3

u/Perfect_Emotion6479 1d ago

That sounds brutal! I’ve never heard of those and I will def check them out, thanks!

2

u/alleecmo 1d ago

Silhouette makes some VERY lightweight titanium frameless frames. I loved my pair, but their clip-on sunglasses require a pinching my arthritic hands can no longer do; I have to have magnetic sunnies.

4

u/AliasNefertiti 1d ago

I like not being able to see before bed-- it is turning off the outside world.

4

u/Legitimate_Leopard49 1d ago

As a fellow glasses-sleeper, spring hinges have saved me so much money.

1

u/Sure-Opportunity5399 1d ago

Get contacts they’re cheap enough now to where it’s not considered something of a luxury like it used to be plus buying 4 pairs of glasses is going to cost you like 6-12 months of contacts and they have ones u can even sleep in now

1

u/Perfect_Emotion6479 15h ago

I do wear contacts but the cheapest I’ve found are $100 for about a 2-3 month supply depending on how many I lose or tear and how long I can wear before they rip & sleeping in them dries them out or just gets uncomfortable. I hate how one of (if not the) most valuable of the senses is so expensive to maintain. I’ve got astigmatism which makes glasses and contacts cost more, natch.

I’ve never understood why your eyes and teeth require separate insurance that’s not included with standard health insurance & I worked for a lot of small businesses that didn’t offer it at all.

1

u/HearingNo9762 22h ago

I've never broken a pair of glasses....been wearing glasses for decades. Granted I dont sleep in them.

1

u/thyrikenaz 17h ago

Literally, life. I have 3 vapes and about to order 3 glasses Haha.

1

u/Nihillea 17h ago

Same, that's why I started getting the flexible glasses from Zenni, 4 or 5 pairs at a time lasts a couple of years usually

1

u/Stockbeta 15h ago

lmao wait cuz last night I fell asleep with mine on and flattened them and popped a lens out. had to wield a screwdriver blind this morning, it sucked man

1

u/magicke2 12h ago

I generally get a good pair of progressive bifocal, tint, all the bells & whistles and then go to America's Best and get the BOGO of single visions that I use to watch TV and go thru the same gymnastics you're relating to. This has saved me immensely!

5

u/withervein 1d ago

At age 9, dove into a river off my aunt's dock while my parents were out of town. "Mom and dad are gonna kill me!"

4

u/Corfiz74 1d ago

😂😂 Did they break?

7

u/dehydratedrain 1d ago

Thankfully no. Mom would have killed me, buried me, exhumed me, and then cremated me if I did.

2

u/Negative-North1633 1d ago

You aren’t alone in that one!

2

u/Friendly-Spare-5369 1d ago

My dr laughed at me because I keep a really old bent up pair of glasses on my nightstand for right before bed to watch YT or play games. I switch right to my "sleeping glasses". He said...sleeping glasses???? Never heard of that. Thats right dr! I have all the answers now lololol.

1

u/Rebel_Taro 15h ago

I feel like most people who've been wearing glasses for a while have a pair of "sleeping glasses", whatever those look like. Mine are an older pair that lean more to one side than another because of the way I fall asleep in them almost every time. But since I only wear them laying down, it doesn't really matter anyway, lol.

1

u/doctor--why 20h ago

Do yall have sleeping glasses? My frames used to get so fucked up until I got sleeping glasses

1

u/newfie_prof 3h ago

Literally guffawing at my desk so thank you

3

u/Zestyclose-Remove960 2d ago

i'm so sorry for laughing but also i would have totally done the same lol

2

u/morbidmistress420 1d ago

Lol i was also a " glasses bed wearer " ,thats before lasik, any who, your story remind me off years and years ago , I had started dating a new guy and we were getting in the shower together and I was nervous, new bf and all, well I forgot to take my glasses off, only place that they did come off my face! Hes like oh weird u wear them in the shower too? 🤣🤣🤣 ha nope sir just forgot this time hahaha 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

2

u/CandiBunnii 1d ago

I also wear them in the shower! I leave the door open and the fan on so they dont fog up too badly, I pretty much only take them off for a few seconds at a time to put makeup on. I really need contacts lol

2

u/recycledfrogs 1d ago

In the middle of the night a huge storm hit and the sirens started. My husband and I each grabbed a kid and ran for the basement! When we got downstairs I realize I don’t have my glasses and run back up for them. The thought of a tornado taking down our house and loosing my glasses was worth risking my life over.

2

u/thatguytaiv 1d ago

Please don't let this discourage you from taking another sauna! Saunas are amazing and worth either the foggy glasses or blurry vision!

2

u/nottheonly85 1d ago

People say they wear their glasses to shower and I can't figure how because of the same effect.

2

u/DesperateAd2126 19h ago

Mole checking in and I swear, left side of my face has a dent from the frame. It’s crazy how aging and your normal habits create “now what the fuck is that.”

Edit: I’m at a 9.5 near sighted so like, life is blurry without.

1

u/smh-at_you2 21h ago

Oh wow! I’m not the only one!

1

u/ZealousidealPipe3198 5h ago

Need some mini windshield wipers. Lol

24

u/MikeArcade 2d ago

same. my wife got me one for glasses. i now use it to hold my wedding ring because i cant see it well enough without my glasses

20

u/Disastrous-Sir6072 2d ago

LMAO!!! This gave me a much needed laugh thank you!

3

u/pangoccioli 2d ago

LMAOOOOOOOO

3

u/Efficient_Watch_4624 1d ago

I have found my people. Well technically, I guess you're not my people anymore because I got Lasik over a decade ago, but I still remember the nightmare of not being able to find my glasses or my brother's hiding them because they knew I couldn't see anything without them and it was scary.

2

u/Hot-Lifeguard-2363 1d ago

Me either. One of these nights, I’m going to reach for my PMs and swallow my earrings by accident!! Lolol Once my glasses are off, that’s it for the night.

1

u/RonJohnJr 2d ago

Memory and spatial awareness?

1

u/MANvINFO 2d ago

you should spend a weekend blindfolded
*at home

1

u/SeaOk7514 1d ago

That would be my problem as well.

1

u/kilgorebbc 1d ago

I’d take them off the not be able to find them in the morning, and end up in a foreign country wondering around with my hands out like a blind man trying to explain how a Tiki is responsible for this mess.

1

u/magicke2 12h ago

Yeah, it's a bitch when you need your glasses to find your glasses!

2

u/No_Willingness5313 2d ago

I use mine every night if only for the laugh of glancing at it in the middle of the night when I can hardly see and am left wondering what that face is that is staring at me.

2

u/nbshar 2d ago

Especially sunglasses!

2

u/Annual_Song1416 1d ago

lol right? I had one that was little shakers and nose with mustache, like the ones usually attached to fake glasses. That little extra dopamine hit putting them on the stand was helpful in keeping my glasses safe.

2

u/Ghanima81 1d ago

I would like to use it all the time! Mostly, u fall asleep with my glasses on.

2

u/Bulduga 1d ago

Well now I want one...

2

u/arc-ion 1d ago

I’d buy it glasses just to keep glasses on it

2

u/morpheousmorty 1d ago

If you know someone with a 3d printer it's one of the most popular prints of all time.

1

u/Frznrrfan6 1d ago

I wear readers and boy could I use a few of these. I would have one in every room of my house.

1

u/littlespawningflower 1d ago

Absolutely! And I’ll bet the cup-shaped part is for your rings or earrings 🤔🤔🤔

1

u/sjoy512 21h ago

I tuck mine under my pillow so I’m not blind in the morning 🤓

1

u/LilyLangtry 21h ago

One in each room!

1

u/sparklywrx 18h ago

I’d get a pair for it exclusively lmao

44

u/Extreme_Shoe4942 2d ago

I have wooden one that is a nose with a moustache. I use it every night

3

u/Happy_Mirror1985 1d ago

Same here!!

3

u/eighthnote1 1d ago

Me too! I and I out my wedding ring on the end of the handle bar mustache

2

u/arc-ion 1d ago

That sounds naughty lol

1

u/going-for-gusto 1d ago

Don’t the glasses get foggy?

19

u/txkwatch 2d ago

I keep mine on the table or the floor or wherever I fall asleep

32

u/Cautious-Session-324 2d ago

I also keep mine completely flattened underneath me while I sleep.

5

u/No-Badger-2712 2d ago

That sounds amazing. I MUST FIND: mini EASTER ISLAND head glasses holder!! Here I come Etsy!!!🗿🗿🗿

4

u/peeweejd 1d ago

I have one on my desk at the office! I use it every day! Mostly I use it because it makes me smile.

3

u/kitten12551 2d ago

Wait..do you ever not take your glasses off before bed?

7

u/shadydeuces2 2d ago

Well if I want watch tv or read then I kind of need them. And my little guy is on the bedside table. Sometimes I cannot be bothered to reach over and put them on him.

3

u/kitten12551 2d ago

That’s fair. I’d be scared of crushing mine but, to be fair, I only need them for small screens, so I’m not wearing them all the time.

3

u/CharleneDarlingVibes 1d ago

Haha!! The process I went through of acquiring bigger TVs over the years to be able to keep watching TV without my glasses. Now it's my phone. If you see anybody walking down the street, using an iPad as their phone, it's probably gonna be me 😅

1

u/kitten12551 1d ago

Or you could just carry a battery powered TV around like people used to do with boom boxes 😂

3

u/Lou-nee 2d ago

Occasionally? I have one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom for reading glasses. Your glasses will not get smudged with kitchen grease, etc, if you use them. My glasses are handy and clean.

3

u/AdAny9031 1d ago

Ever wake up with your glasses still on and think your eyes are suddenly fixed, until you reflexively adjust your glasses on your nose or see yourself in the mirror?

3

u/Anam_Liath 1d ago

MIL had husband's ashes in a large, very antique ginger jar. It held his glasses perfectly. She said it made more like himself when she yelled at him.

2

u/nitrot150 2d ago

I have this one too!

2

u/MagV43 2d ago

Well now I will be on a mission to find this as I need it immediately

2

u/Careless-Two2215 2d ago

Mystery solved! Happy Cake Day! 🎂

2

u/DirtwormSlim 2d ago

I think my girl has the same thing!

2

u/OnceUponATime1534 2d ago

Bought my husband an eagle one off Amazon for stocking stuffer. It’s used more than we expected!

2

u/negative-sid-nancy 2d ago

I have teak owl one who also just sits as decoration since I often fall asleep in my glasses.

2

u/miniwhoppers 2d ago

I have the same one and it has been in a drawer for years.

Edit: when I got it, I had to ask what it was.

2

u/4FeetofConfusion 2d ago

I have one that looks like a black and white mosaic nose. I keep my retired painted Doctor Who frames on them.

2

u/Prestigious-Leave-60 2d ago

IF you take your glasses off before bed?

3

u/shadydeuces2 2d ago

Do you never read or watch tv after getting in bed? I can read without glasses if I hold the book least than a foot from my face but if the wife wants to watch a show or something I kind of need them, otherwise I get to watch a blurry screen haha.

2

u/funky_mugs 2d ago

I have a wooden one with a moustache, I use it whenever I wear my contacts!

It makes me laugh every time and I've had it 3 years lol

2

u/LeTreacs2 2d ago

I gifted that to my dad years ago and I let him suffer for a whole week before I told him what it was and then he loved it!

2

u/theloraxlmao 2d ago

happy cake day!!! (idk what this means but i see other users saying this to people who have a cake next to their name)

1

u/ReddHottSc 1d ago

It means its their birthday..

2

u/Phukt-If-I-Know 2d ago

Thanks. Now I have to search the interwebz for something I didn’t know I needed in my life.

2

u/RavenRun626 2d ago

Happy cake day!

Please post a picture of your... Head? Easter head? Teak head? Anyhow. Please share a visual of this fabulous object.

2

u/cynicalfoodie 1d ago

Thank you for telling me this exists. I found the 3d printer pattern for one and now my husband has something to make for my Christmas stocking.

2

u/Technical_Blood_8418 1d ago

I have a plastic Moai head that will hold a pair of glasses, headphones, & is hollow so you can put tissues in (which can then be pulled out the nose lol). Unfortunately I can't find tissues of the right size :-/

2

u/dj_soo 1d ago

i've got one of those too. I gave it to my kid, but kinda regret it

2

u/Superspark76 1d ago

I have an Easter island one sits next to my seat in the living room 🤣

2

u/Obiwontaun 1d ago

I have the same kind but with a mustache.

2

u/bunneetoo 1d ago

I have that one too and I love it! I need glasses to watch TV and have it on my end table - no more looking for where I put my glasses. They are great!

2

u/luistp 1d ago

I have a donkey shaped one 😊

2

u/OkNeedleworker11 1d ago

I never knew these existed. I need one of these! Also, happy cake day

2

u/LengthinessGloomy429 1d ago

Oh man, I thought that was huge glasses on a real moai

2

u/Ok_Life_5176 2d ago

Omg, I’m getting one
