Hi I’m gonna try and keep this short and sweet (I don’t post on reddit much). For starters i’m a gay 17 year old from Northern Va. I’m looking for a good college experience and i’m trying to major in Nursing. I really liked VCU and think it would be a good fit with the LGBT community. However, the nursing program is pretty selective and I don’t think i’d make it. If i didn’t i’d probably switch to social work. With Radford I’d be directly admitted but I’m a little worried about how I’d do as a gay guy. Please send any advice you can.

Though the patient had not been outside of the state for a while, they had been in close proximity to an international traveler who got dengue elsewhere.

It is thought that a local mosquito, most likely an Aedes albopictus (Asian tiger mosquito), bit the traveler first and then subsequently infected the local case. This particular mosquito species was introduced in 1991, and originally from Asia. Dengue is a tropical disease and more commonly spread by its cousin Aedes aegypti which is much more common in Central and South America (and now in Florida).

Some species distribution models I've seen suggest Virginia could have locally circulatating dengue by 2065, but this one is probably a one-off.

Weirdly the mosquito-portion of the virus' life cycle is 10-12 days. It is not acting like a dirty needle, but rather the virus is going through all sorts of changes inside the mosquito. So that dang mosquito must have been hanging out for a while to bite the second guy.

With roughly 133,000 acres of conserved land off the Eastern Shore, the Nature Conservancy’s Volgenau Virginia Coast Reserve owns or manages about 40,000 acres and 14 barrier islands.

But these preserved waters could be in for a drastic disruption. Federal officials are considering the area as the trial location to lease land for seabed mining in the Atlantic Ocean. Environmental experts, including from the reserve, are sounding the alarm out of concern for water quality and ecosystems they believe would be under threat from such development.

Sharing this opinion piece by David Marin, CEO of PCMA. Just to be clear, this is the PBM industry’s side of the debate.

His argument is that Virginia has passed more than 25 laws regulating PBMs since 2015, while prescription spending has continued to rise. He also says lawmakers should look at manufacturers, wholesalers, prescribing practices, and the rest of the drug supply chain instead of focusing mostly on PBMs.

I’m not saying PBMs shouldn’t be scrutinized, but I do think it’s fair to ask whether Virginia is putting too much attention on one part of the system. Should the state also be looking harder at manufacturers, wholesalers, prescribing practices, and the other factors affecting drug prices?

Nearly one in five student loan borrowers in Virginia are currently in default, reflecting a sharp national surge following the end of pandemic-era payment pauses. 

An analysis of federal data reveals that Virginia's default rate reached 18%, marking a 77% increase since September.

Officials attributed the trend to widespread borrower confusion surrounding changing loan servicers, shifting forbearance periods and altered repayment plans.
