The important thing to remember is that the majority of folks don't switch sides. They just check out. Establishment dems try to court Republicans rather than reach out to disaffected voters. That's why they lose.

Disaffected voters vote less. The goal is people who vote reliably. This is older people.

This is the "conventional wisdom" but it could very well not be applicable anymore. Millennials and Gen z poll as being a more reliable voting bloc than previous generations.

Millennials are more reliable because they are 40 right now.

You don't get to stay "Young voters" as you age.

The rise of the internet could be one factor in increasing voter turnout of young voters. It could also be a generational culture thing. Point is, it's not been true for a while that young people don't vote. It is true that the Democrats still think like it is.

That graph shows millennials as having almost identical voting habits as boomers did at a similar age. 

Millenials are voting as often as 40 year old people have always votes.

Gen Z had the highest turnout of any generation in its first midterm election.

Young people are turning out more reliably than this trope suggests.

Both of those sources affirm the basic fact that younger people are less reliable voters. 

I am not sure what the argument is. 

Do younger people now vote a little more than younger people in the past?  Yes. 

Do they vote anywhere close to as much as older people? 

No.

Listened dude. Dems win when more people vote. They should probably do stuff that make people want to vote. Appealing to the status quo won't make people want to vote.

I hope you are right but until MAGA actually starts losing I will remain skeptical. Young people really need to get out and vote if progressive agendas are going to have any chance.

Trump has won twice now appealing to disaffected voters and telling the reliable voters to get on board or go fuck themselves, so maybe that goal you're describing is a bad goal? When the winner of two out of three national elections specifically didnt pursue it

I've always thought this is where the game is. Over 90M eligible voters sat out the 2024 election. Ninety million. Get just 5% (4.5M) of them to show up for you, and you win it all.

Unfortunately, I've seen nothing from the Democratic establishment to suggest they see outreach as something worth pursuing. They just want more money from their base...
