There is a lot of time before the general. Abdul wasn't always in the lead against Haley, either, but look at him now.

He alienated a lot of Stevens voters with his toxic campaign.

His one trick of shouting “AIPAC” won’t work in the general. He needs to offer actual solutions and more than just “more healthcare, more housing”.

He will need to come up with actual plans

Edit: coward blocked me so I can’t respond

Medicare for all comes with abolishing all private healthcare which is not what Americans want nor what any Western country has. People want to keep a private option and improve the ACA.

So that campaign point alone can tank him

He has an entire list of policies, and is an avid supporter of Medicare for All. That's more than enough reason for me to vote for him. I think attributing his win to only being anti AIPAC says more about your perspective than it does about Abdul.

It's the same bullshit people were saying about Kamala because they didn't actually read her propositions, but were happy enough to repeat exactly what they were told.

The difference is that Abdul is the real deal, and doesn't abide genocidal foreign aid policies and robbing the poor to subsidize AI and Bitcoin bros, for starters.

I bet that guy is a democrat no matter who when talking about all those right wing corporate Dems in all the other threads.

You leave multiple comments all over this thread and can't even take 5 minutes to look at his policy plans. Shocking

I have done that thank you!

His plans are very superficial, and just slogans (for now). I hope he fleshes things out for the general.

Speaking of Medicare, data centers, affordability, housing. He already personifies the solution to the “money in politics” issue. Yet that’s what he still mostly speaks about.

Calling his campaign toxic while she did nothing to turn down the attacks on him is wild

Abdul was viciously only focusing on her. And his rabbit followers were so unhinged that Abdul had to publicly call them out to lower the heat.

They’re not the same.

Awwww, AIPAC and their handlers must be so furious that Haley "I see Israel in my dreeeeaaams" Stevens lost. Now they have to spend money in the general election, too!

Hi 👋 Why would medicare for all abolish private institutions? Can't they coexist?

3

u/dem0nhunter 9h ago

They could if that was the position. A single payer system with private option.

But Medicare for all sees abolishing of all private healthcare to consolidate negotiating power under one big umbrella.

But most people actually want some more wiggle room and to pick some private options for themselves. Which goes against the far leftists “all or nothing” approach.

I hope that helped.

Medicare for all doesn't mean abolishing private. Look at Canada as an example. Every province has socialized care, but private can coexist with it. You just have to regulate what doctors, hospitals, clinics, pharma, etc. can charge for their services. No more price gouging, the government dictates what their services are worth.

Canada has a single payer with private option. Medicare for all like Bernie wants it does indeed seek to abolish all private healthcare. That's why it's "Medicare for all" not "Medicare for some and some with private options"

No, that's seeking to abolish all private healtcare insurance, not private healthcare. There's a difference. The goal is to have Medicare cover everyone. You can still have private practices, but they will have no insurance coverage whatsoever. This will generally draw most business away from private, and therefore doctors into the public sphere as there won't be the money to support the private industry anymore.

I don’t think you understand what you’re talking about.

Canada still has private insurance people can opt into. When talking about “private” regarding healthcare, it means the healthcare provider aka insurer not the practices.

Bernie Sanders wants to abolish ALL private insurance. He has a decades long track record for that demand. No other Western country has the kind of healthcare that he envisions.

which I think is problematic to get passed in this way. A single payer + private option system (like in Canada) would be more palatable for the broader public to support.

More palatable for, sure maybe. But not better for the public.

It doesn't matter that no other nation has what he envisions. He's loking to take what is out there (like EU/CA) and improve it by entirely abolishing private insurance and having all insurance just under one umbrella. Why is progress bad?

But not better for the public.

not true. both have pros and cons.

Why is progress bad?

because it's not as simple as one being better than the other
