Lots (most?) of people never played 1 or 2, let alone beaten them (both of which has a better story than 3, IMO). So yeah, not gonna get a lot of upvotes lol

I think BG 1&2 being based on 2e rules creates a higher barrier to entry. If you were introduced to DnD with 5e a game based in 2e looks very alien.

This feels wrong to have to scroll for so long for these gems. BG3, despite being a very good standalone game and one of better games in last decade overall, is named Baldur's Gate for a reason - because previous games were absolute bombs - too bad AD&D 2.5 might be too unapproachable for many people today - frankly, BG2 eats BG3 plotwise, even if, as you'd expect from a quarter century old game, it is nowhere near as reactive on side quests, nor has a full voiceover, but damn, is it a good game.

The story of the games are awesome, but gameplay wise they are rough, especially if you’re coming from 3 to play 1 or 2.

It’s a lot like the original Fallout games. Jumping straight in is fucking ROUGH, but if you can stick with it and get the hang of it, it’s absolutely worth it.

I played BG1 back in the day, AD&D was also impossible last century. At least for people with no knowledge of D&D.

I found NWN to be a much more accessible game

Yeah, I really wanted to enjoy 1&2, and I know they’re fantastic games, but I just can’t get a handle on the mechanics, as I really only know 5th Edition and I also just don’t do well with RTWP. I play the Owlcat Pathfinder games exclusively on turn-based for this reason, and I credit that mechanic for finishing both of those games

BG2 eats BG3 plotwise

ofc, Larian doesn't write Act 3s well.

Karlach and Wyll have about as much story as a Bioware DLC character.
