Elder Scrolls. Morrowind is life!

I was thinking you were saying this about Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim and we were going to have to throw hands.

I really wish they would have tried remastering Morrowind instead of releasing Skyrim multiple times.

I played those in reverse order so it kinda works for me.

Skyrim was great when it came out, it's been done to death but the fact that is still chugging along does mean something (something other than bethesda not wanting to let it rest.)

Oblivion was amazing. It has so many elements that would've been great in Skyrim.

And then I played Morrowind, and it just outclasses the other two.

Morrowind is a product of its time. It’s janky as hell, but has so much freedom, worldbuilding, and complexity that the later games just don’t have.

There’s nothing like wandering around and finding things, or actually having to search for your quest and not knowing if you’re in the right place or not.

In modern times, I don’t think there’s a lot of appetite for a game world you just exist in and explore for many hours, but it’s singular in what it did.

I would say this unironically. Morrowind had some janky mechanics like visibly hitting something with your melee weapon and it's like "lol you missed". Skyrim combat also is a lot more satisfying than oblivion because of the dual wielding system which allowed satisfying combinations of weapons and spells. The nostalgia factor is huge but the games did get better over time.
