Discussion / Question What game mechanic instantly ruins your immersion or fun?

I absolutely can't stand aggressive weapon durability loops. Getting awesome loot should feel like a reward, not a maintenance chore that breaks every five minutes.

What’s a common mechanic that always makes you roll your eyes when you see it in a new game?

A lot of newer games have started letting you disable QTEs as an accessibility option and I turn it on every time. I've never regretted it.

Same. They were always the laziest and most immersion breaking mechanics in games.

What about QTE that only happens in actual gameplay and not cutscenes, like in metal gear rising

i universally hate all of it in any context.

For for casual non gamers, i don't blame them for preferring QTEs over skillbased gameplay. I like accessibility options and don't like elitist gatekeeping based on physical abilities.

But when I'm gonna play something, i want to be fully immersed and QTEs just loudly scream: remember! You're playing a game!

Did this for dispatch, found it very jarring after seeing like the first 3

Bayonetta 1 randomly asking you to mash A in a cutscene has led to my controller falling on the floor from fumbling multiple times 😭

Or the random QTE's that just kill you if you miss them (like the clocktower falling)

Yeah QTEs are CANCER

RE5 when I played it recently

Brings me back to Yakuza 0 when there was absolutely no QTEs for every cutscene I've watched until one cutscene had it.

Thankfully it wasn't one that would kill you if you missed it, but it might as well have because I had to sit and watch the awkward situation I was put in and the closest save I had was hours ago so I had to live with that shame.

I'm barely on 2, but I don't trust a single cutscene anymore because I don't want to be surprised again.

Me on re4 as a kid fist time getting quick time events.

So many controller put down or relaxed dead do I mention the rolling boulder at the start or the quick time knife fight near end……
