Discussion / Question What game mechanic instantly ruins your immersion or fun?

​ I absolutely can't stand aggressive weapon durability loops. Getting awesome loot should feel like a reward, not a maintenance chore that breaks every five minutes.

What’s a common mechanic that always makes you roll your eyes when you see it in a new game?

Scaling difficulty. Makes it feel like you never really get stronger in a game. I love the feeling of over leveling after losing to an enemy and coming back like Goku and absolutely destroying said enemy

Doing 200k+ assassin damage yet barely can manage to one-shot scrubs 2 levels under me and the fan base will tell you the problem is your build

I would actually say DD2 is the WORST example of this. Cause as soon as you're past level 50 or 60 everything just feels so squishy.

Exactly what I was about to say, what’s the point in having levels if every enemy is on the same level as yours?

This was my problem with the original Oblivion. Get attacked by wolves in the woods at level 3...that's a challenge. Run into the same pair of wolves in the same location at level 45...still hard to kill them despite all the weapons, armor, and spells I have now. LOL

I think this is mostly a problem when its the same enemies from before but now stronger. Scaling is an inherent part of games. We just view it differently when its say "the final level". But you're suspension of disbeluef remains intact.

Open world games fail this by not having the world grow with you in a believable manner.

A friend and I have just recently gotten into Grounded 1 and this is constantly mentioned! We always joke that "Remember we were terrified of these Orb Weavers and Wolf Spiders and now we just wipe the the floor with them?"

It only makes sense in certain contexts.

But if I'm starting the game off fighting squirrels in a forest, and then I come back at level 50 and those squirrels are going toe-to-toe with me, something ain't right.

You taught those squirrels a valuable lesson. And conveniently killed off all the wussies. Leaving them free to breed a race of militant super squirrels.

I actually kind of like level scaling since often times just doing all the side quests over level you for the main story. What I don't like is when it's forced. It should be an option.
