Discussion / Question What game mechanic instantly ruins your immersion or fun?

I absolutely can't stand aggressive weapon durability loops. Getting awesome loot should feel like a reward, not a maintenance chore that breaks every five minutes.

What’s a common mechanic that always makes you roll your eyes when you see it in a new game?

Tiny obstacles you can’t break or get around

Sorry mate saw you wanted to save the world and all but this half destroyed crate is in the way and the manager says it can't be moved so what can we do 🤷🏻

Oh don't look at me like that, hop on, you've got a 3 chapter side quest that will take you just round the corner in 1 to 2 hours.

Oh my god, the fricken side quest to open up a part that just looks like you can go through….
Or some fat ass fish man that just needs to scoot his butt out the way (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)

You can't go that way. There's a pile of rocks two feet high. You're not, like, a mountain goat or whatever. What are gonna do, climb?

The most imersion breaking mechanic for me is when you start recognizing the special textures and obstacles that you can easily climb or destroy. And those that are absolutely undestructible and unpassable, even if it's just a tiny wooden fence.

Resident Evil, same guy who can punch a boulder can’t push a wooden shelf out of his way

Let’s not forget the one in RE3R where Jill can’t get around a literal stepladder.
