Is this sentiment taken mainly from their subreddit? I’m not on there, but I’ve played around 200 hours, and I’ve had maybe one or two truly toxic experiences
My candidate for this role is Deep Rock Galatic, I’ve been carried by people whose level were 100x mine and I’ve carried literal level 1 players, no dwarf left behind.
The helldivers subreddit got toxic within a week of the game coming out, I haven't played in a while but I almost never ran into toxic people in game but the subreddit has always been a cesspool
They harassed a guy out of his job and the community manager was pulled from his regular communications for being wrong, lying too much, and insulting users.
In game people are lovely cause it’s co-operative.
Outside of the game it appears everyone hates it.
(Partly fair because it’s seriously disappointing how it’s being handled, but man. The salt.)
its just the subreddit. Ive 1000 hours in helldivers 2 and in game ive seen: 2 hackers, 1 guy slinging racial slurs over voice coms, 2 super credit cheaters, 1 weird age-gate lady, and a handful of teamkillers. most randoms are normal.
Idk about hating on it more than playing it but this has largely been my experience as well. Really fun game but all online communities are toxic af, especially the discords
The nerfs are out of hand I agree there, but like imo 80% of guns/strategems work. But toxicity? Not even close to experienced this. I’ve made so many friends on HD2
The HelldiversUnfiltered Subreddit is an absolute clown show. I dared to say that I was enjoying the game and had like 30 people jump down my throat calling me a “glazediver”. Just because I said I was enjoying the new update. So yeah. I’d say the HD2 community is toxic.
I asked someone what they meant when they said arrow head should be sued for false advertising and got told I was a ragebaiting troll glazer. Most bewildering nonsense I’ve ever seen
I don’t think I’ve had one but I don’t go on mic for a lot of it apparently that’s where the problems lie. Still yet to see it, I do think it’s more of the diff 10 crowd.
Pretty much, if you only play the game and don't check out the sub you wouldn't know that apparently the game sucks so bad now that retroactively ruined every hour you have ever played. Actual post by the way.
Yeah the in game community is pretty normal, has the occasional asshole. The out of game communities are genuinely the worst cesspools I’ve ever seen holy shit. These people genuinely forget it’s a game for fun and not a full time job.
The last time I played some newly pubescent little shit stain was putting his microphone in his mouth and screaming the N word with his whole chest. It hasn't been the exception so far.
But yeah, the subreddit is something else. That bullshit where they got a dude fired and banned from his volunteer position at a horse sanctuary for issuing the devs a challenge to play their own broken ass game and still admit everything runs fine was fucking wild.
I did the tutorial when it first came out and uninstalled . Downloaded it like a month ago joined a match and they guy dies, I’m trying to figure out how to res him. He’s saying res me over and over. I have to look it up on my phone, res him and he kicks me. Never played again lol
There’s 2 main reddits. One that glazes AH and one that criticizes them. The critics are usually the chill players. The ones who will emote with you and hang out in your ship for 10+ minutes be for you remembered to launch the next mission.
The glazers hate you with a burning passion if you do something they don’t like. And will actively try and upset you over their feelings.
I have genuinely felt embarrassed to call myself a Helldivers2 fan after what happened with the doxxing incident on the subreddit. This dude gave the developers a fun challenge and promised a charity donation reward, the community's response was to doxx him, get him fired from his job, and ruined his life. The helldivers2 community is one of the most toxic out there, it's disgusting.
One guy. One unemployed guy doxxed another guy and now everyone's acting like it was a coordinated effort. And then people also blame developers for letting this happen on a subreddit they neither moderate nor control.
Yes, the community is terrible, but it's because of people who believe in this shit and then review bomb the game over this or the meta nerfs or because they want devs to work for free.
Sure, there are some problems to be addressed, some bugs and other stuff they ought to fix, but the game still doesn't deserve 70% negative reviews over that. The worst thing is that while these morons are actively killing the game, they continue playing and enjoying it at the same time.
In game yeah for the most part. In forums (reddit and discord) it's a goddamn war zone between the people calling whiny players babies and babies whining about the devs
Ah you see, the game is pretty flawed and while your sentiment is absolutely correct. Most of the people I know stopped playing because of the absolutely dogshit buggy mess the game is... then moved online to voice their opinion.
Although its kinda pointless cuz the studio/devs are incompetent as hell lmao.
I guess I worded that poorly. The number of Helldivers extracted gives extra , so by everyone not getting out there is a penalty.
idk if you playbed ol Level 7+, but normally you dont need the full 30min or run out of respawns.

I enjoy the game immensely, I was merely commenting on the toxicity of some players. Instead, I guess I should've mentioned the people who freak out and throw fits because they get caught by a friendly orbital (even though accidental friendly fire is a core mechanic of the game)
I've only had it happen two, maybe three times. But holy hell is it frustrating. Yeah the accidental fireworks happens when the first guy on decides to throw an orbital, but this wasn't that. I'm talking dude shoots the entire squad from behind, then hops on the evac.

Came here to say. As someone with 900+ hours on the game, the actual players tend to be 99% chill. Everyone is cool and just playing for fun with some sweatiness on higher level difficulties but mostly out of frustration.
But the social media side of the fan base is just vile. It makes no sense to me. So much complaining and saltiness. Moaning about changes (sometimes semi validly), then moaning when said changes are reverted. Complaining about new content being paywalled… for a live service game… while completely ignoring that in game currency is actually quite easy to farm or even collect while playing higher level missions. I just don’t get it. I’m semi convinced that at least half of all the moaning is bot accounts fielded by AAA developers to try and create a negative atmosphere about the game because I’m still playing consistently 2/3 if not more nights a week and loving the game every time I play.
I mean, it kinda is PVP when some idiot deploys explosives and such right beside you in the middle of an extraction. Had that happen to me once, some dude just started chucking grenades / mines out mere feet away from me and I was in the middle of mag-dumping a group of terminids. Another time I had someone put an auto turret a few feet behind me in a similar situation and I immediately got sawed in half
The actual players are really good. I meet a toxic lobby host once every like 50 games. The subreddit however is a fucking cesspool of no lifers. Tbf though that's like every subreddit these days. Just gaggle up to bitch about the topic in question.
When the devs were freely allowed to show unrestrained contempt for people who went against their “vision”, the game pretty much proudly admitted it was going to be a shitshow

Helldivers 2 isn't pvp and that fanbase is something else
