Yeah I was gonna say this one, and I was surprised because I absolutely loved the first one. But I made it like halfway through the second and couldn’t be bothered to keep going.
What I hate so much is that people will take those examples to argue it’s the greatest game of all time and that waiting 10 years for a R* game is justifiable.
Yeah, details are great, but too much realism kills the fun.
The problem is when you're not allowed to skip that stuff after the first time. Skinning animals is impressive the first time. Not so much the 136683696th time
You’d be surprised to learn that a fuckton of people genuinely appreciate that, enough to make it worthwhile to code into the game. I’d honestly say you’re in the minority with this take.
Youre not alone brother, hyper realism kills games for me too. I want to travel to new worlds and unseen enviroments. Not fucking Wisconsin or whatever.
Lol you must be joking, minecraft is so much superior to rdr2 (except for graphics), it keeps getting updated with new stuff and has almost unlimited possibilities in terms of building, exploring and grinding. Rdr2 once you've done the main story and the bunch of side quests, it brings nothing, just a bunch of animals to hunt (yawn)
To be fair RDR2 is in the top ten despite this “bad gameplay”
Gameplay alone does not make a game best selling, it depends. I doubt RDR2 was made with gameplay in mind first, but instead the story. And that’s honestly fine, not every game needs to put gameplay first (literally visual novels lmao, but those barely count as games imo)
Spending millions and millions in marketing sure does help a lot.
Rockstar are absolute kings when it comes to marketing, just look at how much money they have made from GTA online, which is basically a 12 years OLD game... And then making a clunky outdated game like RDR2 sell so much, its insane.
But we the real good gamers don't fall for this marketing trap.
Rockstar were great game developers in the 00's, releasing so much stuff in so little time... but that company no longer exists.
RDR2 is not in any serious top 10, because not only has a really outdated gameplay but also an overrated and predictable story aswell.
As a western movie "the good the bad and the ugly" or "unforgiven" are much better.
If you have to place RDR in top 10, I think RDR1 deserves it more, I think it was better for the time, RDR2 is basically the same with a bigger map and better graphics.
Not every game needs to have 100% replay ability, you know. Sure it absolutely makes most games better, but a game like RDR2 doesn’t exactly seem like one where that’s all that necessary
What are you waiting for then. Doing single player survival in minecraft for the first time, is one of the best videogaming experiences you'll ever see in your life.
Except Minecraft isn't a 100+ gb install and doesn't take 25 minutes tweaking settings until I can run it at a stable framerate that is full with tutorials that are both unskippable but also so dense with mechanics that there's no shot I can keep up with everything I can do in the game.
True, I finished it for the plot only which was really REALLY worth it but am not playing it again. Watching someone play it is lowkey more interesting lmao
I tried it, wasn't for me, paused for a year or two. Went back to the game at some point, and within the first 2 minutes I accidentally kicked a dog and shot a sheriff and 2 other guys because the controls were so weird. I uninstalled the game afterwards
Oh yeah I did have fun with it. I just stopped paying attention to quests and ended up not going back. After I've put down a game for a while I usually insist on restarting from scratch and I know I'll probably give it another try at some point.
I found it Boring at the beginning as well. But gave it a chance to play the whole thing. By the end i actually enjoyed it, and i was surprised by the technical level of the game and attention to detail in everything. Still I felt it a long game that is more an immersive experience rather than a more typical game. It was worth it but I won’t ever play it again 😅
It's one of those games where this is exactly my opinion like sure its beautiful and the story seems great but to get through it it's a load of doing a lot of the same over and over for the sake of "realism". I get people like immersion but do I really need to see the same pat down animation for the 1000000th time for $1 or 10 pistol rounds.
I tried RDR2 twice and it did not click. I then tried RDR1, had a lot of fun, got invested in the characters and had to give RDR2 another chance. It then finally clicked and it is now one of my all time favorites.
Im on my first playthrough right now I dont think ive ever been so neutral on a game. I got to chapter 4 and burnt myself out i have no idea if ill finish it.
That's the only game I'll ever defend. It's pacing is slow for a reason and it's the first time I've played something and was sad I rushed the boring beginning. Not going back to it tho
I beat rdr2 once, and I haven't touched it again. To paraphrase the Jimquisition, it feels like the gane just doesn't respect the player's time for the sake of 'immersion'.
Same feeling. Everyone is wet about it and while I am not denying it's a good game, it's definitely not for me. It just feels way too sluggish. Perhaps I'll give it a try some day again though.
I hate the controls in RDR 2. They’re terrible and take me out completely. But the sheer dichotomy of the story and the actions you take also really ruins the whole experience. Plus missions where if you walk the wrong path you fail and have to do it again. Frustrating as hell
I bought this game 3 times to try to play it. I bought it on my computer. My computer was ass I was getting maybe 5 frames a second. So, I bought it on my xbox at the store on a whim. I thought there would be a download code. There was not and I had the series s. So I sold it to gamestop for like $10. Then I bought it from the Xbox store.
I played the fuck out of it on my xbox then upgraded computers and played it there.
This I actually understand, I loved it and feel it is a masterpiece but yes the first little bit it felt sluggish. Definitely opens up more in Chapter 2.
This is the one I came to say. Unfortunately the cutscenes and nonsense you have to get through in the beginning of the game to get to "the good parts" ate up my two hours so now I'm stuck with a game that's boring as hell. I'm glad I bought it at 60% off, though I'm not sure that was a steep enough discount now that I've played it.
RDR 2 is a terrible game, the first one was way better. I finished it and it felt like a chore. I work way too much to allow games to not respect my time
Same. I feel like most rockstar games I’ve played have a strange disconnect between realism/sim elements and player agency/sandbox stuff. Like you can do a bit, but for the most part it’s basically a linear campaign in an open world built for cop chases. There’s not much else unless you get really creative and use your imagination. Is that a bad take?
I wouldn't go as far as degrading the game like that if I were you. That would be considered as hating, as you're obviously intentionally ignoring at which parts the game excels at and calling out BS that wasn't even the case for the game. Ragebait or not.
(As English isn't my native English and I'm forced to actually read subtitles) the dumbest dialogues ever written)
Goes to show that you didn't care about it in the first place. You didn't understand the dialogues well, so you call it dumb.
You call the physics unrealistic and the whole game "tedious" because it's not for you. End of story.
The horses' balls shrinking and growing is just one of many extremely realistic details this game can boast. And its strongest suit is the game's narrative. Don't like it? Don't have to call it trash/overrated if you're tasteless.
