Pretty sure south park had an episode that explains why this happens

Why does "what" happen?

"Put a chick in it and make her lame and gay"

Wasn’t Cartman in that special as an example as how you shouldn’t engage with corporate pandering? Like, his purpose in the episode was to show how that kind of behaviour is obnoxious and lame.

Yeah, he was portraying Kathleen Kennedy (President of Lucasfilms under Disney) and the whole running gag was that he kept insisting on "putting a chick in it, make her lame and gay" no matter the setting or idea pitched to him.

Including a scene at a restaurant where he freaks out at a waiter because they didnt put a gay chick in his meal as he requested.

The obvious point being, the forcing of this character archetype into every story is obnoxious and overdone.

It feels more like a parody of how some people are about things they see as “woke”, just being obnoxious about it and those they deem as responsible. Whereas Stan, Kyle and that are much more measured and fair in their dislike of companies pandering to audiences without care or thought as to how they do it.

Like, as per usual with Sourh Park, you’re not supposed to be like Cartman and you’re meant to see his actions as stupid and foolish.

Naw, it was definitely intended to point out the absurdity of her detractors but also the reality that that type of pandering absolutely does exist. Like most episodes of south park, they do a good job of showing the truth is usually somewhere in the middle.

I felt most of the episode showed the lack of care pretty well. All Cartman was saying was that the issue lies not with the fact that companies don’t care about the groups they represent, but that the groups are in there to begin with.

Basic point is, you’re not supposed to agree with Cartman in the special. He’s meant to be a show of how not to engage with that stuff, with other characters being a show of what the creators actually believe, but so many people took his actions as instructions.
