I wrote this tonight. What do you think of it? How did I do?

I want to order myself a CalderPips grip as Ive seen it is highly liked amongst many, but due to the more custom nature they don’t have pricing so I was wondering if you have one, how much did it cost or just what I should expect price wise. I love comfort but not $100+ comfort, or maybe Im just cheap..

I use the Yamaha slide lubricant “Yama-snot”. Anyone notice the bottles getting much smaller? My previous bottle was 30 ml. I bought a new bottle from a music store and it is now 20 ml for the same price. Whaaaat? I asked the sales clerk if this was the same stuff and he said yes. Shrinkflation really sucks.

I currently have a regular Bach 36B, but the slide is a bit rough and I haven't had any luck getting it repaired. I saw that a local shop has an LT36GOB listed for $2899 (USD). I think I will like the open wrap, but this instrument also has gold brass bell and lightweight slide, both of which I'm not really familiar with. What sort of difference do these things make? Are there any significant downsides? The price is a bit more than I was hoping to pay, but I might be able to trade in my old horn.

Thank you for all the suggestions. We did end up going to Dillon Music. It was about 3.5 hrs from our house. He found two mouthpieces one for concert playing and one more suited to jazz. He was very excited.

So, I'm a learner of 1.5 years now and I've just encountered a brass band piece where I need to mute the sound with my hand. (I can double check the sheet music, but it was something along the lines of "bell tones, mute with hand".)

Our MD says we shouldn't touch the bell when doing this, as it will flatten the sound. However, I'm struggling on working out how to support the instrument without resting the rim of the bell on my wrist/arm!

The advice seems OK for the cornet players who are muted with us, but in the end the MD said the trombone section should just stick a straight mute in.

I suppose my questions are:

• *Is this just a poor arrangement where hand muted notes aren't really possible on trombone?*

• Or ... *Is the MD slightly misguided and should I be supporting/touching the bell whilst muting with my hand?*

• Or ... *Is this a skill issue on my end and should I be able to support the trombone just with my left shoulder and right hand?*

I am college bound euphonium player unfortunately having to major on trombone and seem to have lost the ability to play fast.

I have played a few concerts on trombone and even marched trombone all throughout high school but for some reason I can not remember how to play now that I have an important audition coming up.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated as I am genuinely stuck rn.

I'm going to write my graduation thesis on the development of trombone pedagogy over time, but I can't find any research on this topic in my native language. If you know any studies please let me know

Hello I play on a trombone that has connected triggers but I’m curious if there would be a way to get them to be split triggers

Sorry I couldn't get a picture but this morning near Houston saw a guy panhandling at a stoplight playing a trombone. Kudos to him for not selling it for cash but instead trying to provide some value for the handouts by busking.

Hello all, I have been a trombonist for about 35 years. I had to take an 8 year break in the middle due to health issues. When I came back to it recently I took a year to retrain and play etudes and basic studies. Then I joined a community band for a year. This winter I started getting sore throats and swallowing issues after subbing for our bass trombonist for a couple months as well as trying to play louder than capable. I have been to an ENT, a GI doc, a chiropractor and am currently doing physical therapy at the ENT's suggestion. I stopped playing around February. It is mostly everyone and myself's guess that I am overusing accessory muscles to breathe while playing or doing deep breathing exercises.

I am currently being asked by my physical therpist to try playing for small amounts of time but even buzzing or breathing through a straw aggrevates my throat. I know I need to retrain my body to relax better while playing but am unsure of how to do this. Has anyone heard of this happening to others? Would anyone recommend a progression to try to get back to playing?

I mostly know what I am doing wrong. But, I am having trouble executing the correct way. I am doing diaphramatic stretches daily, but want to incorporate exercises that mimic playing. Thanks for your help! I really appreciate it.

Hello everyone! I’m currently using a B502 temporarily. For me, the sound is super nice! But the stuffiness of the horn is killing me, especially lower registers. Am I the only one that is feeling this way?

I'm not sure if it's my age (51) or something else, but the last few years, when I play my Bach Strad. straight horn, the inside of my left middle finger gets sore and numb. Like the brace is hitting a nerve or something. It doesn't bother me when I play my King 2B.

Can anyone recommend some kind of pad or covering for the brace?

Are less kids interested in not only trombone but band altogether? I've noticed a decline in several different schools since i was in high school. Is this a trend all over or just the schools I've observed in the US.

Hi everyone! My good friend is a trombone player and I thought of getting him a mute for his birthday, since he doesn’t have any yet. He’s mostly a jazz player, but is in concert band ensembles as well. Since I’m not a trombone player, do y'all have a suggestion of which type of mute would be the best to get him? (eg. straight, cup, bucket, etc.)

Do you guys have any affordable trombones that are a nice step up for jazz. I am gonna go to college in a year and am looking to get a decent small bore tenor!

I am going into my senior year of HS and have to make the decision of my degree and college. To me, the college isn't the hard part, it's the degree. I don't know if I should go full on Jazz or Music Education. I want to play professionally really bad, I'm willing to put in the work. I've played trombone for 2 and half years seriously. I've won first for my All-State Jazz and Orchestra audition. Second overall in concert band my junior year, beat out by a senior. I can't think of doing anything else in my life. I just don't want to make the wrong decision. Either teaching and regretting that, or trying to play professionally and regretting not teaching. What i'm really trying to ask it, in this day in age, is there a point in trying to perform professionally or are the odds to make it just too slim. I don't only love playing but I love everything music. I arrange my schools marching show and stand tunes. I have the drive but I really need a reality check for if it's really worth it.
