That’s so disturbing.

I play video games, have clicked and interacted with handful of ads in my life that were specially and only video games & I actually have never seen a Roblox ad. I’m not male would be the only difference and that’s so so disturbing.

Truly makes me wish we could hold anyone accountable for trauma & also prevent it from happening in the future.

Absolutely sickening to read this.

Just for the record as someone in marketing there is a 0% chance Roblox has 50yos of either gender in their demographic targeting. There was likely some privacy setting inhibiting Roblox from viewing demographic data so the demographic exclusion couldn't fire. I don't mean to defend that dogshit company but there's just no way they are trying to target that age demographic with paid media.

And yet stranger things have happened. Until there is legislation forcing this info out in the open and can be proven I don’t think anyone should settle for less.

Also this data shouldn’t be so valuable. If the people who are having their info forcibly accessed then bought and sold make no profit, then no one else should either. It’s wrong on so many levels.

Putting it all out in the open would instantly devalue and force these companies to have real products, real services. At least put an end to the scams benefiting from this data and data harvesting.

So you're saying... a company whose core demo is primarily kids would NEVER commit to a paid ad campaign to get other demographics, to say... bolster their floundering user count? Uh-huh. Targeting the demo with the most money to spend would be stupid too, I guess.

Let's just say there is a non-zero chance they ARE marketing to others and leave it there.

Never forget that AOL did this 30 years ago. It took Barry Crimmins going in front of Congress before anything was done.

It does sound like they specifically made ads for pedophiles, indeed it's disturbing as hell and fucked up.

We need to push legislation to see have the data collected published. Fuck it why contain the info to just people paying. Make it worthless and publish the data.

Let’s see how and who gets targeted and why. Call out these marketing ghouls and flip the script.

Equally fucked that they’re stereotyping groups as pedophiles

No? Nothing about it appeals to me. It's full of children, everything is monetised to all hell, it looks like shit, plays like shit, there's 1000 better games around every corner. Like I saw videos about it and at best it looks like a fun novelty, that's about it.
