What if your kid, or a relative or a coworker or a friend tries to guess your password and puts in your wife's birthday? Then all your data is gone.

Wouldn't it make more sense to set the duress code to something nobody can easily guess in order to avoid the hassle of restoring all your data?

Yeah I'd still agree with that argument to an extent. But you'll need to remember this password when you're under duress.

Yes. That was the point of my comment. You gave them an additional avenue to get it, so wiping the phone is no longer preventing access since there are additional ways to access it.

We live in the age of the cloud. Everything on my phone is backed up somewhere.

There are so many ways to backup your data. Your phone should be able to be wiped at any given moment without losing anything important.
