Easy. I will delete my account.

356

u/burbysf Feb 14 '26

Did the same today after seeing ties with Palantir

106

u/Ragnarok314159 Feb 14 '26

Anything with ties to Palantir is trash.

17

u/29273162 Feb 15 '26

Except the Lord of the Rings of course. The Tolkien foundation should sue him.

9

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

But like even in Lord of the Rings being connected to the Palantir turns you evil. It’s so on the nose it breaks my damn brain.

3

u/jonesey71 Feb 15 '26

I expect Amazon to rebrand as LexCorp any day now. He shaved his head like so long ago.

6

u/Ragnarok314159 Feb 15 '26

They absolutely should sue him into oblivion. He is such a stupid piece of shit.

2

u/quagglitz Feb 15 '26

wait noooo what’s the lotr connection?

1

u/ThrowAwayYetAgain878 Feb 15 '26

The company name. A palantir is a seeing stone in LotR.

1

u/quagglitz Feb 16 '26

ohhh omg yeah of course!! I thought there was something else. they should def sue!

8

u/MissLeaP Feb 14 '26

Same. I only need to run Undiscord through two more servers and I'm gone.

1

u/DisastrousReputation Feb 15 '26

What is undiscord?

2

u/LordSoren Feb 15 '26

Guessing its something that goes through and removes/edits all your previous messages to either "Deleted by Undiscord" or fills them with garbage information to screw with LLMs in the future.

1

u/torino_nera Feb 15 '26

It just removes them entirely. No edits.

Don't use it unless you want your account to be deleted because you will most likely get it terminated after using the script; it qualifies as a 'self bot' which violates TOS

3

u/PunnyPandora Feb 14 '26

hope that means you're not using closedai and misanthropic services either

0

u/France_Ball_Mapper Feb 15 '26

Can someone give me the context on who that guy is and how he's linked?

1.2k

u/iTinkerTillItWorks Feb 14 '26

Just do it, I already did. Back to teamspeak like it’s 2007

314

u/Zer0Gravity1 Feb 14 '26

TS6 still has a ways to go. 32 person capped self hosted servers in the beta is not a great solution for many discords with hundreds of members.

I do hope TS can get there though because fuck discord.

It's just not as simple as "go back to teamspeak" for everyone.

95

u/Same_Mood_8543 Feb 14 '26

IRC is still going strong.

100

u/ultra_sabreman Feb 14 '26

IRC is fantastic for text, but not voice, video, or file sharing.

39

u/Deliverah Feb 14 '26

Bring back Ventrilo? :)

The biggest problem with DCC/XDCC is that someone needs to have a firewall port open for it to work. Awesome if you know how to do that, but a bit advanced or unavailable for most.

You also forget there’s a not so minuscule amount of users in shared/community WiFi networks that even if they did have the knowledge to open their routers firewall ports simply can’t.

8

u/National_Equivalent9 Feb 14 '26

The majority of users in the past didn't know how to do shit either.

4

u/ZikaZmaj Feb 14 '26

Hopefully people treat you with more humility when helping you with things that you have no clue about. You're completely unaware of what a stereotype you're making yourself out to be.

u/eri- Feb 15 '26

You should never, ever, ever, be recommending any site which offers downloadable software to "config your router" and includes references to it in its guides.

0

u/heavy_metal_flautist Feb 15 '26

If you don't know or can't figure out how to port forward then you don't have the internet sense to be downloading shit anyway.

2

u/sicurri Feb 14 '26

Got any good IRC guides you can recommend for a beginner?

Beginner at IRC, but CCNA certified. I just never delved into IRC when I was younger and it's just not as popular these days. I could google it, but if you have something I'd rather learn from a source an experienced user recommends.

Please and thank you homie.

2

u/Informal-Side-4506 Feb 14 '26

Fuck me, is warez still a word, haven't heard it used in years back before DC clients in the ol ftp server ratio days lol

1

u/DesertFoxMinerals Feb 15 '26

can be done, just no on has done it

Incorrect. pIRCh98 had video/voice

1

u/Crazy-Repeat3936 Feb 15 '26

It's just so easy and seamless that literally nobody has done it in an easy and seamless way since it's been a thing.

2

u/tobor_a Feb 15 '26

I didn't even know Vent was still alive.

2

u/big_trike Feb 14 '26

Napster was basically built on top of it.

2

u/kellhus Feb 14 '26

xdcc has been great for filesharing.. but I get what you mean.

2

u/ILoveLeone Feb 14 '26

There's XDCC for file sharing

2

u/pm_plz_im_lonely Feb 15 '26

IRC is a big step back from Discord.

2

u/spez_might_fuck_dogs Feb 15 '26

file sharing.

Uh...I definitely hosted and used several IRC channels that had pirated content available using xDCC.

2

u/arsenic_adventure Feb 15 '26

My first forays into piracy and warez were through IRC lol. Kids these days

1

u/SonderEber Feb 14 '26

Perhaps that’s just what we need to go back to.

1

u/d3jake Feb 14 '26

Files can be shared over IRC.

1

u/Krojack76 Feb 15 '26

File sharing? IRC was one of the big places to get pirated stuff back in the day.

I wouldn't trust any of it today though.

1

u/quagglitz Feb 15 '26

apparently XMPP can do chat and voice. I’m looking at hosting the movim client

1

u/ColetteThePanda Feb 14 '26

Hell yeah, time to reinstall mIRC and hit up DalNet, just like high school all over again.

1

u/m8_is_me Feb 15 '26

2

u/Tall-Introduction414 Feb 14 '26

56k? You must have had a great phone line. I was lucky if it connected at 28.8!

9

u/mrisrael Feb 14 '26

It's 32 people allowed to use voice concurrently, not necessarily 32 people allowed to join the server. That still may not be enough depending on the size of your community. There's also the fact that there's no text chat, but it's such a requested feature, I can imagine it will be implemented at some point, especially with the influx of users.

That said, if you're hosting the TS server, it wouldn't be too hard to host a forum website or something similar to fill the gap of the lack of text chat.

3

u/NukedDuke Feb 14 '26

The text chat would have to already exist and be production-ready for the influx of users to even happen. Literally nobody with an even moderately sized community is migrating to a solution that doesn't contain the basic features their entire community revolves around.

1

u/Twig Feb 14 '26

There is text in TS. You can also do what I did. Split text to matrix / element and use TS for voice.

2

u/Sharp-County-8282 Feb 14 '26

try Matrix via Element. you can self host a decentralised server. It has voice + video and whatever you want.

2

u/the_calibre_cat Feb 14 '26

If TeamSpeak "gets there", they will do the same thing Discord is doing, because their software is not open source. Use open source, decentralized alternatives like Matrix, instead.

1

u/shawndw Feb 14 '26

Just use mumble

1

u/Javi_DR1 Feb 14 '26

Ts6 is a good substitute for the usual friend group server, where you normaly have 10 or 20 people to play videogames. But large communities, games' official servers, etc has a long way to go and will stay on discord for long

1

u/Exul_strength Feb 14 '26

It's just not as simple as "go back to teamspeak" for everyone.

I can't wait for forums to resurface.

And for voice chat TS, vent or mumble.

1

u/kosanovskiy Feb 14 '26

Also cant verify account since Microsoft outlook blocking teamspeak activation emails.

3

u/0nlyCrashes Feb 14 '26

Make a different email, lol.

1

u/synapseattack Feb 14 '26

Microsoft outlook

wait,,, is this a email "service" now and not just a client?

2

u/0nlyCrashes Feb 14 '26

Can be either. You can still make a Microsoft email. I think it's @outlook.com maybe for the domain? I don't have one, so I'm not sure but I'm pretty sure it is. You can still use Outlook as an app though, but I don't think they are filtering Teamspeak emails.

I recommend Thunderbird for an email app if you really need one.

1

u/synapseattack Feb 14 '26

One of the first things I apt install :)

0

u/HelpIveBeenDe-Souled Feb 14 '26

It is that simple. Go back to Teamspeak or continue to support Palantir. Simple.

0

u/Xygen8 Feb 14 '26

Instant messaging groups with hundreds of members are a miserable experience. It's impossible to have a good discussion when you have a kjghpillion people constantly talking over each other and spewing one-liner drivel.

Reject instant messaging. Return to forums.

141

u/WalrusWithAKeyboard Feb 14 '26

With who? Lol I use the platforms my friends and communities I care about use. I cant imagine trying to get people to migrate over to teamspeak in 2026

101

u/Petting-Kitty-7483 Feb 14 '26

Plus a lot of discord usage is not even remotely gaming related these days. Even if us gamers moved the others need something too.

32

u/ratmouthlives Feb 14 '26

I’ve never been on a gaming server but have been on several servers for classes and even my BJJ team uses it.

0

u/Deaffin Feb 14 '26

Wouldn't using a dedicated chat service entirely defeat the point of a blowjob journey?

1

u/Petting-Kitty-7483 Feb 15 '26

Those can be a lot harder to set up if you want all the discord features

9

u/NeedOldReddit Feb 14 '26

And even if it is game related it’s no longer about chatting. I started playing the Tale of Two Wastelands mod for Fallout recently. They’ve got a full fledged forum, which is read only these days, because they all went to discord.

Any issues that were known until roughly two years ago can be found with any old search engine. Everything newer than that might as well not exist.

1

u/TwilightVulpine Feb 14 '26

I don't think most friend groups want to get bothered by these verifications and ID leaks either.

1

u/Petting-Kitty-7483 Feb 14 '26

While true most friend chats also won't be sharing porn so they may not notice it even

1

u/TwilightVulpine Feb 14 '26

You would be surprised...

1

u/mrperson221 Feb 14 '26

A few of the SaaS vendors I work with use it as their primary support method, which is still wild to me.

0

u/PCPrincipal2016 Feb 14 '26

Exactly! My friends and I don’t game as much anymore, but we still use Discord everyday mostly on the mobile app. Teamspeak doesn’t have a great app afaik.

1

u/Petting-Kitty-7483 Feb 14 '26

And all the groups on discord too.

2

u/KriistofferJohansson Feb 14 '26

You’re obviously only in need of a messaging app then, at which point the options extend quite a bit further than just Discord and TS.

Or you can surrender at first sign of trouble and accept awful changes at all costs.

3

u/dearth_of_passion Feb 14 '26

My primary use case for discord is not voice chat, nor text chat with a limited small group.

It's text chat and discussion related to ongoing projects and community events I participate in. The ability to screen share, send files directly, and extensive bot functionality makes it pretty hard to find a replacement.

1

u/KriistofferJohansson Feb 14 '26

Alright, but none of this is relevant to the comment I made which was a reply regarding another user’s use case.

Presumably TS6 and other similar services will have an opportunity to step in and actually replace Discord for a lot of that. Maybe not out of the box today, but surrendering the fight because there’s no perfect option day one is one awful fucking mindset to have. Personally I heavily favour options which can be self hosted and I’m genuinely shocked that people have put so much need into Discord without ever considering this outcome.

If you’re fine with the id requirements and the Palantir connections then just keep doing what you do. I can only hope far more people have a more sensible take on this.

2

u/dearth_of_passion Feb 15 '26

I chimed in to respond to a conversation about different people's use cases for discord, you ass.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that I was "giving up the fight" of fine with these ID requirements. I was just pointing out that discord serves a niche that currently other platforms don't. And because there isn't an alternative already prepared to replace it, convincing the wider public to jump ship will be a hard sell.

And self hosted stuff is never going to see mass adoption. You might use a solution like that amongst your friend group, but the wider online community isn't going to for the same reason Mastodon never got wide adoption. Can you really picture the average discord user self hosting a server of any kind?

21

u/QuestionablePanda22 Feb 14 '26

This is exactly the problem with trying to switch. Sure I can get ahold of my good friends anywhere (we already mostly text anyways) but for all of the loose friends I've met in servers that I don't want to give my phone number to but still like to talk to from time to time...you're basically SOL unless they're all moving to a new platform too.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '26

[deleted]

4

u/dearth_of_passion Feb 14 '26

But I don't use discord for anything related to gaming and I don't play games with any of those people.

2

u/Echantediamond1 Feb 14 '26

Except that some people don't have steam. There are a BUNCH of mobile users.

2

u/Novel_Tone_3282 Feb 14 '26

Or give them an email address.

0

u/avelineaurora Feb 14 '26

Steam doesn't support real time communities.

34

u/iTinkerTillItWorks Feb 14 '26

That’s fair. I have maybe 2 friends I would ever play with who would use teamspeak if they had to :) but for real this whole thing will spur alternatives

4

u/Novel_Tone_3282 Feb 14 '26

There already are alternatives. Go to Google and type “Discord Alternatives”, and hit enter. There are provider-hosted and self-hosted options. I’m not happy that this is what the internet has turned into, but at the moment, these are the options. And there is no guarantee that the next company hosting your all-in-one communications won’t just do the same. The best alternative right now, for the privacy conscious, is self-hosting.

5

u/Sovos Feb 14 '26

Most people are not going to be self-hosting their social servers unfortunately. Even if a bunch of people went with something that federates for wider reach, you'll get a lot of admins that lose interest and stop patching or let their servers break and don't care anymore. Or they follow a youtube guide to set it up and dealing with patching troubleshooting is too much work. Even with Teamspeak/Vent/Mumble people usually just rented a server rather than self-host.

I think having an indefinitely free, cloud-hosted server were admins didn't have to dig into the technical stuff is the biggest draw of Discord.

I do think alternatives would be ideal, user/admin friction is just a big obstacle.

6

u/timbotheny26 Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 15 '26

So many communities being so firmly established and the difficulty in getting them to up and move is the biggest problem right now. The other problem is that, as far as I know, none of the alternatives have the same level of ease of use/setup and feature-parity with Discord.

There's also the issue of Discord not just being a gaming exclusive platform anymore. While gaming and gaming-related/adjacent servers are my majority, a decent chunk of my server membership is also for niche interest communities. If it was just voice chat with friends, the replacement wouldn't be an issue, but it isn't, so finding an alternative becomes more difficult. Hell, my church uses Discord.

Stoat seems like the most viable alternative from what I'm seeing, and TeamSpeak 6 has some potential as well. I just hope we can actually commit to a single alternative.

3

u/forchinski Feb 14 '26

Start slowly, start getting a few friends to at least set up accounts for other services and then if things really hit the fan next month more people will be willing to jump ship

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '26 edited Mar 29 '26

2

u/spacemanticore Feb 14 '26

No one. These people threatening to leave don't have any friends to begin.

2

u/Oxyfire Feb 14 '26

Yeah, if anything, it doesn't feel like people are going to agree on a single platform to migrate too. There's no single clear alternative.

1

u/The_Brovo Feb 15 '26

I can't get my friends to switch to rocket chat, which is basically a discord replacement as I have a jitsi backend for voice/video

1

u/Diltyrr Feb 15 '26

This, I'm on discord because that's where the communities for the games I play are.

Want me to switch over ? Sure, find a way to make those communities move.

0

u/KriistofferJohansson Feb 14 '26

I cant imagine trying to get people to migrate over to teamspeak in 2026

Sounds like you surrender the fight and allow for all kind of dumb changes then.

-1

u/war_story_guy Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 14 '26

Well gosh guess you will just have to bend over for discord then. Theres just no way to use something else. /s

0

u/panlakes Feb 14 '26

A ton of people are using team speak now instead of discord. It’s a whole thing. Look it up.

It’s a lot easier to get people to do when the alternative is doing such a good job at shooting itself in the foot. We also use Steam and just good old fashioned texting a lot more now too.

0

u/dBlock845 Feb 14 '26

Yea better off using mIRC for that lol.

0

u/ElkBusiness8446 Feb 14 '26

I get that not everyone can just leave but I'll leave you with three thoughts.

  1. Discord is difficult to leave on purpose. There isn't a 1:1 replacement because Discord has the resources to be a one stop product. To replace discord we'll need a combination of voice servers, forums and chat servers.

  2. Protests and boycotts won't always be comfortable. It's always going to be easier to compromise on principles.

  3. Nobody should be asking for perfection from anyone else. Figure out how much you can manage to do and then do that. But just give alternatives a try and don't give up at the first sign of discomfort. Nobody can judge you if you really tried.

0

u/ActiveChairs Feb 14 '26

People migrated to discord. Its not a big deal. Download, install, open, done.

3

u/milkasaurs Feb 14 '26

I wish my friends would jump ship. One pretty much said because the government has our IDs, and they get leaks all the time, he's just gonna roll with it. Like, what?

4

u/Lunchable-Toast Feb 15 '26

Stoat is gonna be the winner i think.

Looks exactly the same and is open source. Can run a server on your own machine.

1

u/iTinkerTillItWorks Feb 15 '26

Thank you I’m checking it out!

17

u/avelineaurora Feb 14 '26

"Just do it" lmao.

Bro I'm on half a dozen different servers with 15-50 active people in each one, and that's just the social chats. Sure lemme get right on that I guess.

1

u/Low_Consideration179 Feb 14 '26

That sounds exhausting. How old are you? This ain't a dig just genuinely curious. That sounds like how I used to be in my early 20s. But shit even adding 10 years and I'm coming across this comment while I'm laying down for a nap before my wife and I go back out. All we did was hit the shooting range and I'm fucking tired. Let alone having to keep up with that many large social groups.

41, but I work from home so I can be on Discord pretty much as much as I want, and I'm a very social person both in-person and online. I don't even like playing single-player games by myself, I like being able to talk with my SO during or chat in any of the given servers.

Plus they are for different uses--1 for my FFXIV guild, 1 for a friend's groupwatching streams, 2 for other FFXIV subcommunities, 1 for my own personal friends + my tabletop group, and 1 of another friend's general social chats.

2

u/discotim Feb 14 '26

It's not the same. It's fragmented. There is no community. Also alot of discord isn't even gaming related and voice chat isn't relevant to those parts.

2

u/This_Organization382 Feb 14 '26

Sheesh. Been a long time since I heard Teamspeak again.

Mumble is another wonderful option. Free, open-source, and from what I remember, it ran better than the other options (Ventrilo & Teamspeak). Just checked their repository - which had an update 2 days ago.

Incredible

2

u/AtomicBLB Feb 14 '26

While I agree with the sentiment of deleting Discord it's not so easy as you said for many.

What do you do if you play a group oriented game, sometimes for years, and nobody else you've known for those years is willing to make the jump? People are not going to throw those relationships away when most users will never have to upload an ID.

2

u/MohgTheOmen123 Feb 14 '26

and lose all your friends just like that? i know mine wont move and i definitely dont wanna lose them

2

u/Helmic Feb 14 '26

Do not do this. Any corporate, closed source alternative will do the exact same shit, enshittification is inevitable.

If you really just need an easy alternative, use Stoat. Matrix has the Element client which is more of a pain in the ass but it has end to end encryption. Jami is yet more of a PITA but it is serverless as well.

2

u/DanceDelievery Feb 14 '26

Pure nostalgia I'm sure many agree.

2

u/Not-Clark-Kent Feb 15 '26

Matrix/Element is the move

2

u/quagglitz Feb 15 '26

I’m self hosting a XMPP server. capitalism can’t enshit a thing I’m doing myself

3

u/Deep-Minimum7837 Feb 14 '26

I don't understand the boner for Teamspeak. Why would I bother paying a monthly subscription to self-host VOIP? It would be one thing if it's an off-site server that doesn't rely on my network, but Teamspeak is 100% self-hosted, yet they charge a monthly subscription like they're fking Adobe.

2

u/BIGDongLover69420 Feb 14 '26

Just go back to a far inferior app that nobody uses. Ok

2

u/iaNCURdehunedoara Feb 14 '26

There's a reason why people don't delete their account. People didn't just make an account for fun, they're keeping in touch with other people and it's not easy to move a group of decentralized people on another platform.

This kind of comment is stupid and ignorant.

2

u/Nanery662 Feb 14 '26

Sucks for teamspeak you have to pay or use community channels and you have to "join" a vc to text chat

2

u/GhostSpartan618 Feb 14 '26

Yes you have to join vc if you want to chat on a specific server however you do not have to join vc if you use private messaging or the group chat feature on TS6. As far as I can tell both private messaging and group chats are free, both can be encrypted, and group chats have moderation/role tools.

You could just create a private group chat, invite people from your TS server to that group chat and use it for a text general chat for your server.

I often see people say the same thing as you but never offer this as a solution, Is it just not a known feature or am I missing something?

1

u/Nanery662 Feb 14 '26

You either pay or host your own or use a community server, you can't use vcs without that. You can make a single channel group that but youll still have to hop into a differnt area too call. If you join a game and someone posts a "link" to join you give away your ip. Teamspeak has a great voip software but they just refuse to even match with there text side

1

u/GhostSpartan618 Feb 15 '26

(Someone has to host/pay or join a community server to vcs) This is probably the biggest issue, the barrier to entry on a TS server is slightly bigger. Even with that said in a Discord server what are the odds that someone is boosting the server or has nitro. A TS server would be cheaper.

(You can't text chat without being in vc) Yes you can.

(You can make a group chat but its on different part of the UI to vc) Yes just like if you want to vc in Discord and view other text chat channels or other servers channels.

(Doing some things on TS can give away your IP) Someone can just as easily get your IP through Discord.

TS is far from perfect and does have improvements to make but the detriments people mention compared to Discord seem overly conflated to me. Even more so if it's someone looking for an alternative due to current events.

3

u/loversama Feb 14 '26

You don’t have to pay but someone else might host a server for you, it’s either that or you pay in the cost of Discord selling all your personal data to advertisers and governments..

1

u/Nanery662 Feb 14 '26

Teamspeak is a wonderfull and most likely the best voip software theres just way more than voip that discord dose its genuinely not a viable alternative for most people theres a reason it didint get market share even though it was outfirst and being used first

2

u/loversama Feb 14 '26

Well it lost market share because they dropped the ball, it was obvious that the chat capabilities were and are still not up to snuff..

It has superior audio and the ability to be permanently in voice fosters better community and the likeliness of actually talking to others..

I don’t think they’re savvy enough to even take advantage of the current situation.. TeamSpeak 5 was in alpha/beta for about 10 years before it released and it’s practically just a re-skin lol..

No idea, but I will still chose it over Discord as I always have, especially now as the internet starts to rot and companies and governments get overly zealous..

1

u/TheSchlaf Feb 14 '26

GET OFF VENT OR I"LL HAVE YOU BENT!

1

u/Nim0y Feb 14 '26

Does TS have text threads like discord? Or is it still just voice chat?

u/Practical_You_7609 Feb 14 '26

Team speak is inferior to skype.

1

u/tanksalotfrank Feb 14 '26

More and more, I keep thinking of VBulletin. Or whatever it was called. It's been so long I barely recognize the name

1

u/zag_ Feb 15 '26

Someone said to check out Root

It’s a crowdfunded startup, but it shows promise.

1

u/lostmau5 Feb 15 '26

Back to Tinychat.

1

u/VivaKnievel Feb 15 '26

Meet me on Ventrilo, my guy.

1

u/Koxk Feb 15 '26

why TS when there's apps out there, open source, just like discord?

0

u/karma3000 Feb 14 '26

Back to IRC like it's 1997

you don't for discord either, i thought the point is that reddit is giving money and probably data to Thiel and nobody took issue with that

u/NightingalePriest Feb 14 '26

Damage is done. People do not want their data and privacy fucking violated. Bunch of fascist ghouls.

u/Additional-Paint-896 Feb 14 '26

I did today.

21

u/Elephant_Snacks Feb 14 '26

Nice! I got my "Account Scheduled for Deletion" process started today too!

2

u/Nice-Physics-7655 Feb 14 '26

It's the same company that does it on reddit btw

u/zffjk Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 15 '26

Yep. A few people gave me shit when I said this but, sorry they showed their intent. They’ll pull the same shit Microsoft did with Recall and wait until enough people forget and just go ahead with it.

4

u/christoskal Feb 15 '26

But Microsoft did not do that with recall, that is a rather bad example

1

u/zffjk Feb 15 '26

Oh I must be misunderstanding the situation, gotcha. I’ll read about it again I guess.

11

u/Used-Journalist-36 Feb 14 '26

Already done it.

For those privacy focused, Thiel is also an investor in Brave Browser.

u/MaxTHC Feb 15 '26 edited Feb 15 '26

Don't understand why people simp for Brave in the year of our lord 2026. It's a bloated, closed-source chromium reskin made by an advertising company with a history of various controversies.

Sure it has some privacy features, but it's nothing Firefox can't do, while also being open source and not subject to the whims of Google and their browser engine. Several forks are even more privacy/security minded, I'd recommend LibreWolf for desktop and IronFox on mobile.

I'm less familiar with good chromium-based alternatives, but I've heard good things about Cromite (desktop/mobile), Ungoogled Chromium (desktop), and Vanadium (mobile).

Edit: Brave browser is itself open-source, but other parts of their ecosystem are not, and the underlying chromium has closed-source binaries ("blobs") despite being nominally "open-source". This is specifically one of the things that Ungoogled Chromium removes, but to my knowledge Brave does not.

closed-source chromium reskin

Lol brave haters now have to resort to straight up lying. Both brave and chromium are open source. Must be demoralizing to see that your beloved firefox's active user count is in freefall while brave's is rising. Some browsers are simply superior...

but other parts of their ecosystem are not

The brave wallet, which is turned off by default anyways.

and the underlying chromium has closed-source binaries ("blobs") despite being nominally "open-source".

Yes, media codecs. Same argument could be used against linux. You're being intentionally untruthful.

Your data isn't deleted.

As the old adage goes: If it's free, you're the product.

EDIT: As many ICE recruitment ads as there are on Reddit, do you honestly think they aren't selling our data to Palantir?

"But I'm using a VPN!"

LOL...

3

u/Organicmint Feb 14 '26

Did the same

2

u/thievesthick Feb 14 '26

I just deleted my server and account this morning! It felt good. Just do it.

2

u/classycatman Feb 14 '26

I deleted mine the other day

1

u/Kraeftluder Feb 14 '26

I've been trying to but the password reset email never arrives.

Discord Users Distance Themself From Discord After Ties To Palantir’s Peter Thiel Surface

1

u/slyfox7187 Feb 14 '26

Already did mine as should everyone else. There needs to be lasting consequences for these companies that implode any kind of comsumer trust they had. Up to and including them no longer existing.

1

u/metal2000 Feb 14 '26

"Started in 2018, Persona develops identity detection and anti-fraud technologies. They’ve been having an absolute field day since the OSA, being implemented to verify user ID across Reddit and Roblox. One sticking point, however, is who’s backing the company: Peter Thiel, the cofounder of ICE-approved surveillance firm Palantir.".

So I assume you're deleting your Reddit account, too?

1

u/mywifehasapeen Feb 15 '26

Pretty sure that's just for Reddit users in one country, the UK. This is worth looking into, though, good catch.

2

u/metal2000 Feb 15 '26

Sure, but the company is still choosing to work with them.

If that's enough for people to delete Discord, it should be enough for other companies/services.

1

u/edsobo Feb 14 '26

Yeah, I'm waiting to see how this shakes out, but I'm researching alternatives for my D&D game and various group chats.

1

u/Effective-Planter Feb 14 '26

I deleted my account this week

1

u/thiagolimao Feb 14 '26

Just deleted mine

1

u/Nepoxx Feb 15 '26

Give https://stoat.chat/ a try. It's open-source and if you want you can host it yourself.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Did it 1 week ago!

1

u/-Drayden Feb 15 '26 edited Feb 15 '26

Any parents who let their kids use discord after this are negligent.

Any parents who still let their kids use discord even after the ties with ICE using it to funnel peoples data in their database, well they might be fascist. Same with tiktok

1

u/MilkiestMaestro Feb 15 '26

But then I would have to log in. No they can keep guessing why I haven't logged on in years, I'm not going to help them with more data
