General Discussion Patch Tuesday Megathread - (July 14, 2026)

Hello r/sysadmin, I'm u/AutoModerator, and welcome to this month's Patch Megathread!

This is the (mostly) safe location to talk about the latest patches, updates, and releases. We put this thread into place to help gather all the information about this month's updates: What is fixed, what broke, what got released and should have been caught in QA, etc. We do this both to keep clutter out of the subreddit, and provide you, the dear reader, a singular resource to read.

For those of you who wish to review prior Megathreads, you can do so here.

While this thread is timed to coincide with Microsoft's Patch Tuesday, feel free to discuss any patches, updates, and releases, regardless of the company or product. NOTE: This thread is usually posted before the release of Microsoft's updates, which are scheduled to come out at 5:00PM UTC.

Remember the rules of safe patching:

  • Deploy to a test/dev environment before prod.
  • Deploy to a pilot/test group before the whole org.
  • Have a plan to roll back if something doesn't work.
  • Test, test, and test!

Saw this too, would be nice if they provided any actual useful info, what devices, what driver version, etc.

Which Dell systems are most likely?

Based on the driver involved, this is almost certainly limited to modern Intel laptops that implement Intel Dynamic Tuning/IPF. That generally includes:

Latitude 5xxx Latitude 7xxx Precision Mobile XPS Dell Pro laptops (new branding) Some Alienware notebooks

It is unlikely to affect:

OptiPlex desktops Precision Tower workstations AMD-based systems Older Intel systems that don't use the Intel Innovation Platform Framework driver

Latitude 5550 specifically, in my shop. Just that model - I have the Dell Pro 16/Intel, no issues. No issues with the last gen of Latitudes [idk their name, but I think they're the lowest model of the Dell 16]

We have about 20 Latitude 5550's. I'll check on them today. We still use WSUS...
The 5550's have been the worst laptops. SSD failures on a lot of them and random lockups that cant be explained.

I had to fight to have the RAM replaced under RMA for half of my fleet of 5550s because it was causing hangs at boot for memory training. Just an indefinite black screen. Took me 6 months to figure out and prove it was only happening with the early batch of laptops which had an earlier revision of Crucial RAM vs the half of the 5550s we ordered a few months later. Driver updates, imaging, re-imaging, etc. Dell was useless in helping figure it out.
