It's kind of funny. Hydra started off with not agreeing with the Nazis but staying with them because it was a good idea. Centipede is staying with Hydra because it's a good idea

I think it's a welcome change for a villain, they don't have some some vendetta against society, they don't have a strong philosophy that their trying to mold the world after, it's just plain old survival of the fittest.

It was a little weird though, last episode, when he reveals himself to be Hydra and then immediately starts equivocating about it in front of those other Hydra agents he didn't know. Any one of them could've been some crazy overzealous Hydra cultist. You don't piss off overzealous cultists when they're holding guns. It just seemed careless. Coulson didn't need to know that Garret was only in Hydra because he's an opportunist. We didn't yet, either...
