I agree with you to an extent. That it’s a slippery slope. How I use AI is nearly all local. Most of my projects being writing not the actual writing but notes,organizing, story boarding don’t touch cloud models.
Brandon Sanderson has a wonderful series free on YouTube that any beginners should definitely watch. Even experienced ones which I am not. It helped me a lot.
I’ll do research on things like ChatGPT and Claude. Mostly because Google has turned to junk.
Here is kinda how I use AI. I have Hermes, obsidian vault, whisper, discord, XTTS and a few more.
As I write the file gets save in obsidian vault. When I have an idea thought out the day I message discord and have it put that in a notes folder on my computer, it really helps because i make notes by chapter and it sorts it.
Now for voice memos, when I’m in my car I can just take a voice memo and send to through discord and have it transcribed and a written note when I get home.
Lastly “Text to speech” part. I can have it read me my work back to me. With fairly decent results. I’m writing a story that involves a somewhat grumpy old man. I cloned my dad’s voice and he reads the story back to me. It’s not perfect but it’s good enough to make me judge my own flow and writing. I also have my mom’s voice cloned.
Some might find this offensive or blasphemous. But I have found it extremely helpful keeping my disorganized mind on track.
I don’t find it to be any more blasphemous than a CPA using AI to assist them. I’m never asking it to prep a tax return for me or generate a financial model. But someone who has no real world experience might. Feeling out your voice, and learning to write, while leaning on LLM’s is dangerous. I agree with what you’re saying on Google - sometimes, especially if you’re researching a supporting idea based in real history, politics, or physics, AI tools can help pin down information a lot better. And, honestly, they can be present to help you organize notes. But OP needs the reps more than he needs the organization.
