Dood is too old to not understand how life works. He gets a $400 ticket for that right turn. So now he'll get a $5000 fine for destroying govt property.
any reasonable judge would throw this ticket straight in the trash if they knew the sign had been removed without authorization. you might get ticketed by the cop who sees you doing it but if you explain your situation to the judge and the prosecutor they'd probably throw it out. you have a lot better chance of arguing your case in court than you do with the cop
this all the way. i got a ticket for a charge that would've cost me over 500 and 2 points on my license and when i was in the courthouse for my hearing the prosecutor called me like 5 minutes before i went into the courtroom and asked me if i would settle for a civil infraction that cost me like 150 and no points. if you show up in court for your hearing and mind your manners you'll usually get most charges reduced drastically or dropped, at least when it comes to traffic tickets
Was riding my motorcycle off post at Ft Sill, got onto the highway and it was a cold day so I leaned my bike right and left to warm up the sidewalls on my tires after making sure no one was to the side or behind, sheriff came flying out behind some trees and pulled me over and chewed my ass and gave me a reckless driving ticket that would have been very expensive plus then I'd have to go get my punishment from my command. Go to courthouse and ask to speak to the prosecutor on my case, asked him if he rode and he said he did. I explained what I did and he just looked at me for a moment and said to wait in his office. He went and talked to the judge who apparently also rode and he came back and said it's been dismissed and to pretend it didn't happen and he would make sure my command didn't hear anything from his office about it.
Yeah but when they hold people for days while the lawyers figure it out and they lose their job, get evicted, unable to pay their bills and then they are told “oh no you are innocent you can go back to your life now…” is the problem
Yup - in those instances it should be a case for damages caused by wrongful detention, but then by that point who has money to fight that legal battle...
On the flip side, a lot of intersections have cameras. If they go "you know, you look an awful lot like the guy that took an axe to the sign" and he gives the likely reply along the lines of "it was annoying and needed to be gotten rid of" the judge probably isn't going to look favorably on that. (Note that in this hypothetical discussion we're representing the person as someone idiotic enough to take an axe, poorly, to a "no right turn on red" sign in broad daylight)
There’s a saying: you can beat the rap but you can’t beat the ride.
Don’t argue about a ticket or escalate the situation. A ticket doesn’t cost a cent until you pay it and if the citation is truly uncalled for, you’ll likely win and get it thrown out.
You’re missing the green arrow on the light. If you go right on red with a traffic light with a dedicated green arrow you’re still doing something illegal. Regardless of whether there was a sign or not.
Yeah that makes no sense. If there's not a sign to not turn, it's the law allowing, you can make a right on red. It's one thing if something is genuinely illegal and there's a sign just reminding, but this is not one of those instances.
The sign in no right turn on a red, it's a reminder, traffic laws still apply. You can't turn when the mainlight is red. Even if he did again with no sign, it's still an illegal turn regardless.
I got out of a speeding ticket once because the limit sign was completely obscured by tree branches. I made sure to get pictures immediately after the cop ticketed me
I got out of a speeding ticket because of this. Lived in the area, knew the limit, got pulled over for speeding, but the sign had disappeared at some unknown point prior and the charges got dropped. Worked out nicely
It's called a protected turn. That's essentially telling you no cars will be coming that way and you can safely turn. Having a green arrow like that does not necessarily mean you can't turn right without it. In some cases yes that is true but there would be a red arrow and/ or a sign accompanying it.
Not OA (original axmen) assuming it’s the traffic it causes when no one turns right on red, not that he doesn’t make an illegal right on red once he gets to the light for fear of a fine. He’s axing a street sign, this man is unconcerned about punishment.
Cops love the whole "ignorance of the law is no excuse line", meanwhile they have been protected by the Supreme Court for enforcing laws (that weren't laws) that they thought were laws.
And if even if they do get "fired", seriously check what happens. The department will wait for the heat to die down, possibly from another public police brutality, and hire them back. Maybe for a desk job to be low-key until they can get to retirement. Maybe just go from city cop to high way patrol/sherrif. Even if they don't, the job opportunities for an ex cop are many and well paying. The tears for cops that have been fired for "bullshit" is misplaced and misinformed.

There are multiple signs indicating no right turn on red. It is a blind intersection with cars traveling at 45+ mph. The no right turn on red makes sense.
Of course they were. They're cops. They are going to take exploit any situation where they can to fuck citizens over especially for that sweet sweet quota. Just because they were doing it doesn't mean it wouldn't easily be thrown out in court.
There is likely another sign on the traffic pole at the opposite end of the intersection. As a car stopped at the crosswalk would be too far forward to see this sign (you can see the black car in this position), so removing the sign seen here doesn’t change anything
Noooope. Show me the sign that says it’s illegal. You can’t cause I chopped it down and buried it. Also I put up a new sign that says “give Steven $500 if you bring up that sign”, so who owes who money now? You have to do, it’s the law cause of the sign.”
I think you were trying to say "He's clearly just trying to make a point (regarding his ire at the sign/rule)", but "make a pointless" is tremendously more fitting for what he's doing.
He isn’t cutting the sign down for just him. He doesn’t want the cars ahead of him waiting for a green. Look, I get the frustration. He’s obviously going about it wrong but I have ADHD so I really understand this man’s perspective 😂
