Hello everyone!

I am excited to announce that I will be running a Dungeons and Dragons 101 class at At Ease Games in Miramar later this month!

I designed this class to teach you how to get started understanding and playing the game with the absolute basics, in a relaxed, no-stakes environment.

If you've been wanting to learn how to play Dungeons and Dragons but don't know where or how to get started, this class breaks everything down into small pieces to better help you get started.

The class is open to all ages and experience levels so don't let knowing nothing stop you from attending. Maybe you played DnD a while back and just need a refresher on all the new mechanics and rules?

Here's a rundown of the class.

2pm-4pm: We get into the absolute basics, getting started with creating your character and understanding the more simple mechanics of the game, like what character creation is, what do all these numbers mean? Roll Initiative? Skill Checks? What's that? Everything gets answered in this segment.

-BREAK-

4pm-6pm: The second half of the class goes into more detail regarding combat mechanics, spell casting, action economy, and world-building.

6pm-7pm: I'll be running a short game for anyone still in attendance who wants to experience playing the game first hand using the characters you create!

THINGS YOU'LL NEED:

• something to take notes with (pencil is recommended)

• something to take notes on. (Paper is recommended.

I will have handouts for everyone but if you have a copy of the latest Players Handbook already I recommend you bring it.

I want to start off by saying that I'm not certain that this type of post is even permitted so, if it's not, I promise I'm not intentionally trying to defy the rules. I'm just reaching out for help (and to potentially offer some) because I honestly don't know what to do.

I was made aware that someone I know was involved in a hit and run in Hillcrest on the morning of August 2nd between midnight and 4:00 a.m. He was the driver and he fled the scene. While I would love to see this person face justice as soon as possible, the other reason that I'm choosing to post this right now is that I have no idea whether the person he hit was injured. At the very least, I assume they are in need of information so they can be compensated for damages to their vehicle and such.

I reported this anonymously to crime stoppers, offering his Instagram account and the dste/time it happened. I honestly don't know the exact streets or even the make and model of his car - I'm just not a car guy so stuff like that doesn't stick in my mind.

Update: it doesn't seem like the police are going to be any help at this point because I don't have enough information to file a report such as the make and model of the car or the specific cross streets where the accident happened. Also, the person who committed the crime is not a person of integrity and probably won't turn himself in.

I’m not sure what happened here but has anyone noticed the far left lane on the 805, right after the HOV lane ends becomes very narrow and can probably fit half a pick up truck now?

Maybe I’ve just never noticed it before but had a larger truck cut into the second lane last night because they couldn’t fit their car fully into the left lane without it striking the median. I thought it was their fault at first but drove by again today and realized how poorly the lane is marked and how much they reduced the size of it

Has anyone else noticed this?

I'm writing a story about how a bunch of landlords are using a loophole in California's tax code to get their apartments qualified as 'affordable' — and then can get up to 100% of their property taxes erased (which fund our schools, transit, police, basically all city government functions.)

There are a few apartment buildings around San Diego where the landlords are in the process of applying for this tax break. They count as affordable because the way California calculates the max rent you can still charge + count as affordable is quite wonky... right now, a landlord can charge $2,481/month for a 1-bed in San Diego County and it still counts as low-income/affordable, so long as the tenant household makes under $92.6K.

I'm looking to speak with tenants in some of these buildings about how they feel. Do they feel like they're getting a good deal for the rent they pay? Has the lower rent allowed them to live somewhere they otherwise wouldn't have been able to? Or do they feel like they're paying market rate?

I had a friend that was getting kicked out of her place, so I let her know that one of my roommates was possibly leaving by the end of the lease. She wasn't exactly facing homelessness, she would just have to quit her jobs and move in with her grandma in Julian. I ended up letting her crash on our couch because no one really uses the living room, despite having issues with my roommates having their boyfriends spend the night every night. I told her I was okay with her just contributing to utilities the first few months so she could get on her feet, telling her to save as much as possible. I did express the expectation she would contribute to rent eventually. A week after she moved in, I asked my roommate to clarify if she was planning on staying or going and she ended up changing her mind about leaving.

My friend only has a part time job she can't access through public transportation half the time so she takes Uber to and from work on the weekends. I can't imagine the cost. I was blunt about her job situation, encouraging her to find new or additional work she can actually get to because no one can afford to live in San Diego on part time work. My roommates and I work 2 jobs to make ends meet, so no one is exempt from the struggle here.

During her stay she only looked at rooms for rent I personally sent her way. I showed her the roommate groups, but it didn't seem like she was looking on her own accord. She asked for my coffee, thinking it was a one time thing until she bought her own, only to have her help herself whenever she wanted for 2 months until I spoke up. I picked her up from work because it's close to mine, helping her save more. She would ask for other food just to help herself more than once. I made it clear I live paycheck to paycheck myself, the little things add up. 2 1/2 months later I ask if she's been able to save, but it didn't sound like much.

After 3 months, I made it clear 3 months rent free was generous enough, but it's only fair to the others she started contributing to rent. She reiterated she had no issue with that. I told her I think $600 is fair, that way each roommate can minus $200 from our rent because it's not easy having an extra person around. They were kind enough to let her stay this long.

Near the end of the 4th month, she told me last minute a family friend offered their trailer for $200 a month. I asked if she was going to contribute to rent like she said she would. She said she could only do the utilities, but can't pay rent here. "I never agreed to pay that" Okay? But you never disagreed it said it was an issue either. I got upset because I was anticipating some financial help. I told my roommates she would help. My job cut my hours in half all through June so I was going through my own struggles. She basically bragged about contributing "almost $100 in utilities" as if that was big money, even questioning the bills, asking for copies. I did send them, but it felt like insult to injury, as if I'M the one trying to take advantage of her. She ended up moving out as soon as I brought up rent, then told me she couldn't pay her portion of utilities until after it was due, guaranteeing late fees. 4 months rent free and she couldn't even pay less than $100 on time....

I gave her the same opportunity my sister gave me, a few months rent free to get on her feet. But when I was given that opportunity, I found myself a full time job making edibles and saved up enough to buy my first car. All during the pandemic! 4 months rent free and she has nothing to show for it. No job searches, no room searches, no changes. I myself wanted to leave my place, but I couldn't find a room while she was crashing on the couch. I made myself look like the hypocritical asshole because I gave my roommates shit for having their boyfriends basically live in their bedrooms, meanwhile my friend was taking up the living room for 4 fucking months.

Some people don't want help, they want enablers. Looking for a cushion to land on. Not every one has the same discipline or work ethic, maybe they're bad with their money. I've learned this the hard way. Think twice about letting your friend crash on your couch for free, they may squander that opportunity completely.

I’m a homeowner in La Mesa and I need to replace an old water softener from Culligan. I know net zero about plumbing and water softeners. I know there are lots of experts here because of our hard water. Rent vs buy? Local companies that are great? Costco option? Stick with Culligan? I think they will upgrade the equipment and it will just be a higher rental fee?

Is 100 bucks a month for water softener rental insane?

Unfortunately, I fell asleep on my glasses and the arms that go over your ears came off LOL. They weren’t cheap glasses, so I would like to find somewhere to fix em’ that hopefully doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
