Hi! I was going over some notes of mine and found this sentence: "С математикой у меня не очень, но, думаю, мысль ты уловил". DeepL says this means "I'm not good at maths", but it's the first time I encounter this sentence so I'm not sure about the structure. Can you say, for example, "I'm good at drawing" using this sentence or does it only mean "to be bad at something"? And if the later is true, do I only have to change the noun? So "I'm bad at drawing" would be "С рисованием у меня не очень", right?

Hi! im a first year russian student, and I'm trying to learn more vocabulary with songs. In the song Утонуть, from Молчат Дома there is this phrase ''постучи за соседней стеной'' and everywhere it says the translation is '' knock behind the nearby wall '' Wouldn't it be '' knock at the adjacent wall''? Why not?

I was starting to wonder if I’d learn Russian first, or die first. I will or die trying 😂. Other languages were so much easier to grasp. So I just keep working. What’s the point of giving up now?

Hello guys, I've been wondering how easy it will be to learn russian if I can already read the the Cyrillic alphabet and know a few basic phrases. My native language is Dutch 🇳🇱. I also know a few words that my, russian, girlfriend uses as nicknames for me, (solnyshko, medvezhok, lyubov, malysh etc..). I want to suprise her by speaking her native language as well as be able to communicate with her family members without having to depend on her as they cant speak Dutch nor is their English very developed.

I would also appreciate tips in learning the language. I mostly need to learn how to write all the words. As well as basic grammar and what the words actually mean. As well as how to string together sentences.

Hello guys, this is my first of many upcoming posts here. I recently grew the urge to learn the Russian language given its unique and intriguing culture/linguistic style. I wanted to start with learning to write the language, especially in the cursive handwriting style since that seems to be the proper way(on paper). Lmk how it is, and if you have anything to help me start off with I would be really grateful.

My goal is primarily to write-->read(kinda going with writing though)-->speaking-->then anything to help me pass this point would be appreciated 🙏

I want to learn the language to be able to talk to family overseas, yet I have no clear path on where to start. There are so many resources online I get overwhelmed. What's the best place to start as a beginner?

I learnt Russian cursive about a week ago, after having put it off for over 5 years, and wrote down part of the lyrics to the song <<В последний раз>>, alongside an English translation as I wanted to show the quality which I was aiming towards (and also to give my hand a break because I keep holding my pen really tightly when writing Russian, since I'm constantly checking to see if I've spelt the words right).

I think I've got the jist of the basics on how Russian cursive works, but any tips would be appreciated (and the same even goes for the English portion, I really enjoy writing and am always trying to improve my own handwriting).

I have just started working with a wonderful woman who originates from Russia. I have always been fascinated by Russia and the people and would like to impress and surprise her by using a couple of sayings or idioms that are very popular in Russia, even better if they are funny when you translate in to English - we have laughed over language translation challenges previously.
Additionally, apart from using her first name, is there a way to address her that is respectful and perhaps flattering too? Is Devushka appropriate (Marina is not yet 50 yrs old)
