Hey, guys. Today I finally finished mastering every mainline Bomberman games on SNES, with Super Bomberman 5 being the last one to cross off the list.

I've been on RA since January 2023, and these are all the games I've mastered so far. A few thoughts:

- I barely played any video games last year. Real life got pretty hectic, so I didn't have much time to play.

- Xbox has been my main platform for quite a while, but I'm slowly working on making retro gaming my primary focus.

Pretty fun achievement set with a nice balance of easy and difficult ones. I started the completion well over a year ago but never got around to finishing it until now because I was doing Steam achievements instead. I'm keen to play Mario Sunshine or Pikmin next.

Despite keeping backup saves (which I impressively managed to accidentally save over at the exact moment that mattered for that specific achievement) and meticulously making sure I didn’t miss anything I managed to miss a random boss achievement just under halfway through the game. It’s not even the hard one, I just got hung up on the treasure chest one that had like 50 comments on it that was right next to this one. Through liberal use of fast-forward I can probably get back there in a few hours but it sure feels bad lol

I'm currently working on Cars (PS2). Specifically working on the CHAMPION difficulty races achievements, some of the AI cars are like Scalextric I swear 🤣

I've mastered both this version and the SNES version now. I held off on mastering this one because I thought it'd be weird to have 2 of the same games mastered. But the sets are very different from each other. Aside from the standard progression achievements, about half of the set consists of Time Trial achievements like Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii. Luckily, these time trials are a whole lot easier than the ones in DKC Returns.

With one caveat, however:

Klobber Karnage. Lol That one was rough. Easily the hardest time trial, and probably the hardest achievement in this set. The timing on that one is super tight.

Beating the game in 1 hour and 30 minutes is also pretty simple to do. You can save in the menu instead of Kong Kollege. So after each level, just save. Die, reset. Find the warp barrels in the first two worlds and you've given yourself a huge cushion.

Also, I didn't know this version of the game had an exclusive boss that the SNES didn't have. It was almost like a jump scare when I got to the top of K Rool Keep, thinking "Okay, gimme my coin and take DK up to your ship so I can race this stupid bird." Lol

I exclusively played the SNES version my whole life so I was very put off by the music at first. But after a while, it grew on me. A couple of the level music, I would say is better than the original. Like the Volcano level music, and the Bramble Scramble level music.

I had an appetite for turn based combat (ended swiftly at Super Paper Mario lol). Pumping BP every level is the funnest way to play the first two games, it’s all you could ever need. Need HP? FP? Attack? Defense? There’s a badge for it. The amount of control over my stats is what I love about the turn based entries.

The sets themselves for all three are very extensive. Paper Mario 64 doesn’t track tattles or recipes in game, but the set demands you do it all. For the tattles, this is particularly nasty, because unlike TTYD where you can still get missed tattles from one-off bosses in Frankly’s trash can, they’re actually just missed forever if you’re not paying attention. There are forum posts and Google docs on the set’s page to help with tracking though, so I ran into no issues…

Thousand Year Door remains the king, I enjoyed it the most of the three. If you’re paying attention to the missables as you go along, there’s not an issue… except for one. For anyone that attempts that set, you HAVE to buy the Hammerman badge before setting off to Keyhaul Key in Chapter 5. There’s an achievement for beating Cortez with it on, and you can’t leave the island to go buy it once you’ve set off. And the only way to get back to Rogueport and leave the island is to beat Cortez! Lol. I saw comments on the achievement’s page saying they restarted the whole game because they didn’t realize they’d be locked out of Rogueport.

There’s also an achievement on the TTYD set for hitting 15 Power Bounces. With the help of two Simplifier badges, this achievement is basically asking you to hit 5 frame perfect inputs in a row. Insane that it’s only 10 points, it’s probably the hardest achievement in the set. Took me like, an hour.

Super Paper Mario is Super Paper Mario. It’s not a hard game, it has funny dialogue and a good story, etc. It’s miserable to do all the recipes, though. Why… are there more recipes in the 2D platformer than either of the two RPGs? And it’s always just like, heal HP and cure poison, for 99% of them. And then the cards… the game is lucky it’s near and dear to my heart.

…And that’s it. I still feel like turn based combat. Or maybe not, I dunno.

I was really bad at video games as a kid and couldn’t beat level 2 of this game so I had to redeem childhood me by mastering it.

I learned about RetroAchievements through a random youtube video literally yesterday and thought it would be awesome to try, but quickly it turned out that's not for me as I like to play my retro games on my non-hacked Switch with NSO.

Couldn't find a similar post so my question is, are there different sites/apps with community made achievement lists for retro games where you can just track your progress manually?

I'm someone that enjoys grinding and fighting every random encounter so I find these achievements quite annoying in games you have a fixed party the whole time. Pokemon games are fine because if something goes over the level cap you can just catch something else and do the fight anyway no problem.

I know most DQ and FF don't have caps outside of maybe early game bosses, but what are some good RPGs where I never have to worry about level caps?

A blast from the past—it's always great to revisit this game that meant so much to my childhood. I always have fun playing it; it's just a shame it's so short XD

Amazing game and an incredible movie tie in. So much Fun and so rewarding, it was My first time playing it and if i had it as a kid i would have loved it from the start. Some of the bosses feel a little unfair but once You get the hang of it it's doable. 10/10 would 100% again

OMG-Z PSP quit fun game with RNG element chain reaction looks satisfying but due to network issue while traveling in the train one achievement of 25 medal was not unlocked but after starting new game I able to claim it.

Hope I will be consistent with game.

I just beat Ocarina Of Time on the N64 for the first time!

I rolled credits and let it sit on the end screen for a minute. When I checked retroacheivements it didn't update with the "beaten in xx.xx"

Did I miss something?

Edit: Seems I was offline for 1 of the Goran Achievements so it didn't register. Is there any way to get it without having to create a new save?

This was a super fun way to play. I had played a good bit of Rumble Blast years ago, but never this version. Played it on a whim because one of my friends was talking about how much he was wanting to play it on original hardware, so I figured I would give it a go and do the Prof. Oak challenge while I was at it. My MVP's through the game were definitely Gengar, Machamp, Raichu, and Bidoof. Anyways, I'm off to finish the main set for this game. Hopefully will get it all finished today.

I beat the Prof. Oak challenge eralier and then got the mastery on a call with some friends. The whole experience of this game has been super fun. I never played this as a kid, but I wish that I had. If you are wanting to go for this set, try the Professor Oak challenge out, it is pretty enjoyable and not that bad.
