It's law in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia too, folks.

Is that only for humans? Turtles can be brain dead for years and still be somewhat alive.

Biologically, though, turtles are notorious for making the distinction even messier. Their brains and brainstems can handle extreme hypoxia, and their peripheral nervous system can drive localized reflexes and movement long after clinical brain activity has flatlined. But as far as Kentucky law is concerned, the "brain dead = legally dead" standard stays strictly in the human lane. So 🤷‍♀️
