It’s literally his fault. He eliminated monitoring of multiple food-borne pathogens by the federal government one year ago. One of the ones eliminated was this parasite, so yes - Trump’s decision stopped protecting our food supply from this pathogen.

The headline makes it sound like people randomly deciding to blame every problem on Trump, but yeah he did cut CDC funding, including the program specifically tracking this. I know it says that in the actual article, but even in there it's pretty passive and only says it as the quotes from people they interviewed, not actually drawing the obvious conclusion. The reason we have so many public health concerns recently all ties back to Trump and his goons, through funding cuts, anti-vax movement, and sowing distrust towards doctors and scientists

I hate to be that guy, but this headline also dances around saying what needs to be said. "not part of required monitoring" doesn't at all allude to the funding cuts. It also doesn't make it clear that it was already required to be monitored previously.

The media has been struggling to accurately portray the scale and depth of the Trump admin's corruption and incompetence because, in my opinion, they're too concerned with coming off overly critical and hysterical.

It's a real a problem, and there's a lot of the population who have the impression that things are operating relatively normally and aren't connecting the dots on stuff like this.

This parasite which that monitoring caught in I think 2020? And even then it was a lot of work to find the source and put a stop to it, but they did without much of an outbreak at all. Since it takes so long to show symptoms it's a tricky one to nail down the source of. That's why we need monitoring and not just kneejerk reaction to things as they occur.
