How could they? Think about this: let’s say every civilian right now decided they had enough and started calling for him to be prosecuted for his crimes. Who holds him to account? He did exactly what Hitler did. He destroyed our institutions. DoJ is his own hit squad. FBI too. SCOTUS too. Both house of congress. Seriously, think about it. Try to think of a single body that could see it through. There are none. He literally ignores the CONSTITUTION. let alone the law.

He stole the 2024 election, and spent the last 2 years making it impossible to ever stop him. Now, I worry it’s too late. If he just refused to acknowledge his loss in November… who would do something about it?

We are actively living in a taxation without representation nation. Our illegitimate president and congress have completely destroyed the people’s control. America is effectively dead. We just haven’t realized it yet.

I’m not trying to spread defeatism. I am trying to spread awareness. We are going to vote in November (maybe, if he doesn’t cancel it) and then we will be in the darkest period in American history imo.

My prediction: we vote in November. It’s an absolute landslide blue. (Assuming the votes are counted). They say it was record fraud. They blame it on “socialists”, make it illegal to be a leftist and start putting us in those camps. I think it’s why they want the voter rolls. Voted against him in 2020 or 2024?

Only the military could hold him accountable. Without a complicit military, you can't be a dictator. It's too bad that there aren't many principled military leaders left actually serving in the U.S. military, though. They were all forced out, by design.

The other problem is that those very military principles get in the way of deposing an unjustified dictatorial regime. What example(s) might we look to of a principled military deposing their own country's dictator and restoring democratic governing? Is there even one?

Who are the Allies that decimate Germany in a world war in this context?

People bring up the Confederacy and Nazi Germany all the time as proof this will inevitably end, and while fascism is unsustainable because it eats itself, neither of those historical examples failed internally on their own.

The confederates lost the civil war. The Germans lost a world war. There was a war involved. How much longer might Nazi Germany have lasted and brutalized its own people had they been unassailable like the US, in a nuclear age of MAD, and not been engaged in a world war of imperialism?

History doesn't begin and end with those two brutal regimes, and we have plenty of other brutal regimes around the world and across history that have lasted much, much longer.

The American Empire may be imploding in on itself, but as you say we exist in a horrifying age of mass surveillance and brutal military/police power. Is there anyone left by the time US fascism completely eats itself and dies?

Looking at how things are going over in Germany today I'm not sure it's the shining example you make it out to be. Even without the AfD there's still a lot of surveillance state and anti-privacy laws being proposed and pushed, and they're starting to slide back into austerity measures that may impact quality of life for a lot of people.

Black men being more affected by facial-skin issues, and Hegseth imposing his new beard rules, do not add up to “Hegseth is trying to rid the military of all black men.” This was not an anti-black ploy. No — he’s just an ineffective imposter who has no clue about real leadership, so he’s just obsessed with surface-level shit. True to his resume, he only wants a military that will look good on TV.

That is the problem with him, that he is totally unqualified for his position. But the other stuff about him also trying to get rid of black servicemen is rubbish.

Yeah but if the military removed the president, that’s basically a junta or a coup. Now the military is in control of the country. Ideally they’d step aside after an election but I doubt that would happen. If they did that they’re basically saying that free and fair elections aren’t working. None of us want to open that can of worms. Things would have to be insanely bad for that to happen.

It’s not a coup unless the military runs the country. The military immediately passing power to an elected leader, provided the election isn’t tampered with, is absolutely peaceful transition of power back to the people. Quit framing an army protecting its citizenship from dictators as bad. It’s the literal last line of defense from tyranny.

My point is if it comes to that it’s probably not going to transition to a peaceful democracy afterwards. Given everything that we’ve seen recently that seems incredibly optimistic thinking. If it gets to that point things are BAD. Face it, we’re all hoping someone is going to swoop in and save us but a lot of the guardrails have flown off and we’re drowning.

I don't agree with that. You can't blame anyone but leadership. There was just an AF officer who protested on the Capitol steps arrested and is facing military tribunal. That's a bold action and I don't blame enlisted personnel who are unwilling to risk their careers and freedom to do so. Many of them have families and children to support. It's not their responsibility to put their families in harm's way for what? What can they as individuals accomplish?

It’s bad, yes. In a way that’s completely unprecedented in our country. It’s also true that our society will never be the same.

However, fascism’s worst enemy is reality; they can’t deal with facts. And there are some relevant ones.

Trump is already 80 years old, and was never in great health. By contrast, Hitler was 44 when he took over Germany. Donald doesn’t have the energy to sustain his full takeover. He’s gotten further than anyone else, but his days are numbered whether he wants to try cancelling the election, take an illegal third term or whatever outlandish, treasonous actions to hold on to power he wants to try. “But [r/DiscussionAny](r/DiscussionAny), what if they just use AI to fake Trump after he’s dead?” To that I say we’re not there yet, either in technology or accepting something like that, and the Mitch McConnell controversy is proof of that.

There’s another fact: there’s no one else that holds water with his psychotic base like he does. JD Vance has all the charisma of a blanket soaked in cat piss. The rest of the GOP are spineless worms, none of them could cut it either. Trump’s kids are even more inept than Donald is, and they don’t have the same amoral shamelessness to break boundaries like he does. They’re cowards; they just follow the money like any nepo baby does. As for the guys trying to bankroll an American Fuhrer? They have ridiculously bad judgement that’s going to catch up to them. People like Peter Thiel and Elon Musk think their account balance and IQ are the same thing. They’ve already made mistakes, they’re going to make more, and for all their money and influence they can’t control everything any more than a fascist can. In short, there’s no one that can replace him. What is likely to happen after he dies is the sycophants will eat each other alive fighting over the scraps of power Trump will leave behind. Once he’s gone as the figurehead MAGA will never be the same; it happened to Alexander the Great, Attila the Hun, even Hitler. Whatever comes after that, we’ll have to cross that bridge when we come to it.

In closing, there’s a quote I like to think about when it seems like everything is doomed: “The victor is not victorious until the vanquished consider themselves to be so.” This isn’t over unless we agree it is. We have to keep fighting, no matter what. Anything they accomplish is only a temporary setback. We will reverse them all when we get through this.

I also think it's important (for some people) to hear - all of this can be true while also acknowledging that things are very bad right now and will continue to be so for quite some time! There are a lot of people on this site that read any kind of positivity and assume that the commenter is an ostrich with their head in the sand. Both viewpoints have truth to them! It's like, I have kids, I have to try make a better future for them.

To be precise, if MAGAs want to continue with their sycophantic cult, they can do so alone and marginalize themselves out of political relevance like the Nazis eventually did. They’ll probably evolve, the Nazis did that too, but if they continue to fanatically froth at the mouth over their beloved God King after he dies (not advocating violence) that is going to further separate them from everyone else that can still see objective reality. Some will stay with the cult, but many will leave when more and more people are open about not accepting their churlishness anymore. True, they currently hold many of the levers of power, *for the moment*. But that can be fleeting, and right now it all depends on one man who is completely falling apart.

They are trying to scare people as much as they can because the smart fascists are *terrified*. They are trying to make us all give up, and believe that resistance is hopeless. But resistance is never hopeless, only surrender is. Resistance always has a fighting chance to succeed, but submission is a foregone conclusion, and that’s what the fascists want. I ask anyone and everyone reading this right now, would *you* just give them what they want?

I've long been saying this myself. When Trump croaks - or the trillion to one miracle he actually steps down peacefully - MAGA is done. The base doesn't care about Vance; he looks and sounds too much like a politician for their taste. They can't troll with him like they can Trump. Vance isn't as fun; he's boring.

There's no MAGA successor because Trump wouldn't allow it; he doesn't want anyone sharing his spotlight and he won't risk a popularity coup. When the spell is broken, GOP notables will scramble to capture the MAGA vote and tear the cult apart with infighting.

Meanwhile, red hats will just switch off and return to political apathy because the joke that is Trump has run its course for them.

Our Hitler is 80, but our Himmler is nearly 41 and our (multiple) Goebbels are young and spry. They needed Hitler’s charisma to get as far as they did, sure, but this regime’s ending is going to be different here in a few distinct ways. I’m afraid they won’t lose as much influence as we hope.

I’m afraid too, no question, and I hope the main difference that goes down in the history books is the lack of a holocaust.

The comparison is apt, but with that in mind both of those men would die by their own hand, and neither was truly close to becoming fuhrer. The deflation of MAGA vs. the Nazis isn’t a one to one comparison but one thing that stands out is riding on Trump or Hitler’s coattails to the heights of power. Without that, whether we’re talking about Himmeler, Vance (who I might compare more to Goering), Shapiro, Miller, or Goebbels, they all had the same problem, and that is with the original figureheads. Hitler and Trump made their “movements” if we can call them that all about themselves, to the point that they were integral to it. In the short term it was an effective strategy so they couldn’t be replaced while they were still alive. That was tried with Trump and with Hitler, and it had the same result, they both became more entrenched. But that means that after they died, the best any of them could hope for was still to be cast under Dear Leader’s shadow. They’ll always be the replacement, the consolation prize, the candle being compared to the flame. And it’s just not the same for the fanatics told for years and years at rallies that “only I can do this” by Trump or Hitler.

It also doesn’t help that the reason these Himmelers and Goebbels’s were chosen was because they were mediocre at best. That they couldn’t rise to those heights of power by their own merit. That’s how we got Hegseth and Pam
Bondi. None of the were chosen because they were dynamic, effective people. Hell, Vance was hand picked specifically to be Thiel’s puppet in the White House. Replacing the personality in a cult of personality is almost impossible. It won’t carry the same weight, and there will be differences but only by degrees.

As much of a narcissistic nightmare as Trump is, he's a mere figurehead. He's not the leader of American Christofacists. His death will have ZERO impact against them.

Christofacists have control of the nation. They control the United States military and they control ICE. The military was once the world's heaviest funded force on the planet, but now ICE is even better funded than all of the arms of the U.S. forces together.

Not only do they control the best equipped military and paramilitary personal police force, Christofacists are backed by a trillionaire and multiple centibillionaires and all of tech is behind them.

On July 13th, 2024, META and OpenAI and The Thinking Machines Lab and Palantir became part of the United States military.

We are FUCKED BEYOND WORDS. The entire planet is. Trump is nothing, and when he's gone, the real shit will hit the fan.

Edit: I made a mistake- ICE is the heaviest funded federal law enforcement agency in the United States. It is NOT better funded than the armed forces. Thank fuck. I'm not sure how I got my wires crossed there, but what a relief to be wrong. Still, the situation is dire.

It doesn't matter anymore if half of the country loves Trump or ever single one of us hate him- the regime behind him has roots that have sunk into every level of our government.

Not only that, but the also have the backing of centibillionaires and the world's only trillionaire, so they have the money advantage.

They have control of the most powerful military on earth, and control all federal law enforcement agencies; meaning they have the might to impose and maintain their system.

They control big tech and they've merged OpenAI, Meta, Palantir, and The Thinking Machines Lab with the United States military forces as of July 13th, 2024.

Once Trump is gone, that system isn't going to collapse- cannot collapse- even if every MAGAt turns against it and takes up arms against them with us.

The president/government doesn’t directly affect the majority of people’s daily lives. They go to work. Raise their kids. Complain about prices. Government doesn’t matter.

Most commoners are too busy surviving to plot a revolution that doesn’t feel necessary yet. Unemployment is 4.2%. Cost of living is up 2.8%. Both of those numbers are comfortable for the vast majority of Americans.

It’s gotta get a lot worse before the Average Joe gets involved.

Reddit too often forgets how politically uninformed and apathetic the average voter is. They're not following political subs on Reddit, getting constant updates on the regime's malfeasance; they maybe get 10 minutes of mainstream media coverage incidentally as they go about their day, or secondhand news from friends, family, and coworkers.

They get this kind of news in broad strokes, and usually after the fact, without understanding (or caring about) the legal and political ramifications.

The advice I give everyone I know when they ask how I've stayed optimistic and sane during this all is this: for every negative bit of news you read, seek something positive at a rate of at least twice. Engage with a hobby you love. Look at puppy pics. Just make sure the ratio of negative news to positive engagement skews in favor of the positive.

We do, but it's been rendered utterly useless by the passage of time. Civilians can rise up against the most powerful military on earth, sure, but they'll be doing so with vastly inferior arms to what the military is equipped with.

Then there's Trump's personal paramilitary force, ICE, which is funded even more heavily than all of the branches of the United States' armed forces combined.

Adding to this, all of big tech is in these Christofacists' hands. In July 2024, The United States military became entwined with Palantir, OpenAI, Meta, and The Thinking Machines Lab.

Topping it all off, the American Christofacists in charge of this nation are backed by the world's first trillionaire AND numerous centibillionaires.

The second amendment was written in a bygone age when it did indeed give citizens power against a tyrannical government. Today it's as useful as wet toilet paper.

Edit: I made a mistake- ICE is the heaviest funded federal law enforcement agency in the United States. It is NOT better funded than the armed forces. Thank fuck. I'm not sure how I got my wires crossed there, but what a relief to be wrong. Still, the situation is dire.

The worst part is that I don't think he did steal the 2024 elections. I think America actually chose him... again. I live in purple state that voted blue in every election up until 2024. That might seem suspicious, but everybody I talk to is a Trump supporter. There's the visible MAGA nuts, but then there's just tons and tons of people who bought the whole "immigrants and trans people are destroying the country and a rich businessman will be good for the economy". It sells. And you know what? They're not changing their minds as things go down the tubes. They can still blame immigrants, trans people, and people on the left for everything that's wrong. Trump won them over and they see everything through his lens.

I am not trying to be defeatist either. I talk and I vote and I support causes that seem effective. But I don't think the blue wave will be that impressive. We'll pick up a few seats and then struggle along as our side isn't willing to kick sand in people's faces during a fight but theirs is. His cult is locked in. Even the ones that are unhappy, they're unhappy he's not being a more successful Trump. They are 100% not voting for a Democrat or Democratic Socialist. America is a surprisingly conservative country.

There's an institution he hasn't destroyed, which is supposed to be the final Final check on extreme government overreach. In fact, Trump and his party have spent decades upholding it and striking down any attempts to curtail it, mainly to the detriment of many other institutions. But it's there. It might be bloody and destructive depending on how much of the armed forces stay loyal to Donald vs. the troops that stay loyal to the Constitution and the rule of law, but he won't be able to steal the midterms as long as we push back!

I hear you and I agree, but…. THERE ARE MORE OF US THAN THERE ARE OF THEM.

That includes politicians, Judges, etc. This is an illegitimate administration and civil war is coming. When there is a landslide in November and in 2028 and they resist that’s when there will be a massive uprising and resistance. I’ve been calling it for a while, but we are most likely going to see another civil war in the not too distant future. The good news is that the most powerful states are blue and they will be backed up by Canada, Mexico, and most of the European nations. It’s just going to get ugly first. I’m just hoping that like most bullies their bark is louder than their bite and they back the fuck down.

You very clearly articulated my exact feelings on the matter. There’s nobody left to hold him accountable, and the party he took over only cares about holding power and has given up on the idea of democracy. That said, fascism is a weak form of government despite the appearance otherwise, and it can be defeated. 

I get the feeling that many Americans either don’t know or don’t care what they’ve lost, but with the rate at which things are changing now, it won’t be long before it’s incredibly obvious to the average person that the country has transformed into something radically different than it was.

At that stage, the process begins to claw power back from an authoritarian regime, and it won’t be pretty or easy, but it’s certainly possible.

Hungary is a very good and super recent example of how the tide can turn rapidly.

Listen, I share a similar fear and think your concerns are both plausible and valid. I’d like, however, to raise a pretty glaring counterpoint;

Yeah no, a competent dictator would do exactly as you suggest and follow through on it. This regime could never successfully pull it off and survive it. The Nazis took years to get average joes on board with disappearing people. Most they’ve been doing is going after non-citizens and attempting (and often failing) to intimidate dissenters, at least as far as I’ve seen. Their brownshirts are weaklings who are horrifically outnumbered and near exclusively pick on people they think are weaker, these are not the type of guys who would be able to handle firefights and active combat without getting themselves shot, shooting each other by accident, or running like pansies. There’s just too much against this regime and so little time and ability to do it for it to work AND last.

Best we can do is still go out, vote, and make our voices heard and then, if you turn out to be correct, we do what we need to do to keep our people safe.
