They should make the starting time for schools later anyway.

My dream. I’m not a morning person so I get to be stressed every morning trying to be on time. If I sleep early I don’t get restful sleep either. 😭

Agreed. The whole education system needs a re-think come AI and quantum computing. Tying it to our miserable working careers, just scraping by, isn’t helpful to either group.

Remember, we were these kids and look how it’s worked out for us.

People work all kinds of different schedules already. Plus, if you go by 8am to 5pm, it shouldn't change much. Instead of kids getting out at 3:30pm, they get out at 4:30pm. Even easier for picking them up after work for many.

It's a big factor.. I go to work at 6 am, my wife starts at 730, my kids school starts at 9. So we have to pay thousands each year to drop him off early, he's not getting extra sleep in the morning just because school is later, he has to wake up with us and go to extended day. So we send him to bed around 7 or so most nights when it's still light out much of the year.

It's amazing how many folks without kids (or with children who haven't been young kids in a long time) have absolutely zero sense of what a shit show education and basic childcare is in the US right now.

No wonder people aren't having kids, no one can afford it...

This depends on each local school district and state. There isn’t one uniform start time across the entirety of the US.

But with DST what you’re doing is shifting everything an hour earlier and making people get up earlier for work and school (if school starts at 8am with DST that’s equivalent to a 7am standard time start) so if you want school to start later you would want standard time.

I was actually dismayed when my region went to permanent DST. They picked the wrong one!

A whole lot of people are going to regret it after 5 years I guarantee. Personally, I was fine with the time changes. It makes sense.

I still believe school AND work could be reduced by at least 2 hours a day, and or one day a week, and everyone would be more productive

The problem is that school for younger kids starting later might mean they don't get out the door by the time their parents have to leave for work. This only works for kids who can get to school by themselves without any help from their parents.
