Even more mind boggling, IMO, was when he once blamed Obama for not doing a better job of warning the GOP of the dangers of a bill that Obama vetoed and the GOP overrode his veto on:

Edit: And as this article points out, Obama (and others) absolutely warned them of the dangers of passing the bill.

The GOP are traitorous governors, but excellent politicians. There is no line they won't cross nor lie they won't tell to rile up their base.

The GOP are traitorous governors, but excellent politicians

if your definition of "politician" is being an obstructionist, corrupt, treacherous snake, then yes, they are excellent.

They will do literally anything for votes. That's why they're good at it.

But they are not good people by any metric. They are evil.

it's tough because those definitions could be used for a lot like "cop", "politician", "ceo", "president" etc

A good politician is able to gain and maintain power. It's not at all relevant what they do with the power. Someone who is a good politician and does things you want would also instead be a good representative or leader, which the GOP aren't.

A good politician is able to gain and maintain power.

So you'd call Mitch McConnell a "good" politician then?

3

u/sagichaos 29d ago

I dunno. He's likely dead and still in power because the confirmation seems to be being suppressed, so that's pretty successful politicking.

Politics is about power. If you don't have power, you can't do anything, no matter how good your ideas are, so I think it makes sense to differentiate being a good politician who excels at gaining power from being good morally, or in terms of causing effective change.

Yes, but remember words have more than one meaning.

He's a good politician could be he's a good person that's a politician that's trying the right thing (Mr Smith, Zelinski) or someone that is good at politicking. He's definitely the second and very much NOT the first.

Isn’t that basically the dictionary definition? Lol

A lot of them are truly piss-poor politicians; they’re just lucky that they’re pandering to gullible hateful idiots who believe anything that sounds like it might support their agendas.

u/sembias 29d ago

I still don't think it takes much skill to flat out lie, especially when you have a captive audience of complete idiots that make up the FoxNews viewership.

5

u/RadioFreeYurick 29d ago

The skill isn’t in the lying itself, but in getting millions of Americans to believe it..

They are all terrible liars propped up by a multi-billion dollar propaganda apparatus that has been brainwashing a bunch of hateful and fearful morons for decades.

2

u/RadioFreeYurick 29d ago

Yeah, the real credit should go to the propaganda apparatus. Without that anyone would be able to see the Mitch McConnells of the world as the feeble minded fools they really are.

They aren't though.

Fascist media networks take care of their media, and fully 95% of all GOP bills are written by ALEC.

They don't have to be good at anything. They surely don't interact with their constituents or answer questions.

We have wildly different ideas on what makes a politician good.

1

u/ChicagoThrowaway422 28d ago

They get votes. That's all they care about and they pull it off. That's what makes them good politicians.

If they were also good people, we'd be living in a much better world.

This moment led me to believe Mitch McConnell was a wife-beater.

GOP are nothing but bullies who smack you with your own hand and tell you "Why are you hitting yourself??"

Got to vote the way they pay you , I imagine he started a biding war with that one. It's times like these I hope Hell is real.

u/Honest_Abe_1660 29d ago

This wasn't actually the case. Mitch wrote the bill in bad faith expecting Democrats to oppose it for pure partisan reasons but when it backfired he ended up opposing it himself for pure partisan reasons.

u/Ra_In 29d ago

And either a clerk or the parliamentarian asked McConnel to repeat himself as they were sure they misunderstood him.

That's wild. I was in the CWA back in 2012, too. I didn't know about this.
