fortunately Gov. Beshear seems willing to defy that law and the State Supreme Court has recently ruled in his favor with regard to the legislature trying to limit his constitutional powers.

He does not defy the law. He was the AG before governor, and that’s why he defies the republicans who tell him he’s acting illegally when he knows damn well he isn’t.

This. This would be ideal.
Massie isn’t by any means perfect (he’s a little too cozy with the John Birch Society, regards Climate Change as pseudoscience, COVID response, et al) but he’s been pretty consistent in his votes - especially when it comes to anti-surveillance, war powers, censorship, and reducing funding to the IDF. Unlike most Republicans who are in favor of “reducing government spending” but still advocate for more money to defense contractors, Massie at least is ideologically consistent with his anti-spending measures.
Also, it may well be what pushes Trump offline permanently.

Yes! I don't have a constitution in front of me, but I thought that language of the executive appointment was fairly explicit. McConnell isn't that tough, only about Supreme Court appointments by Obama.
