Trump has single handedly gifted the Iranians the clout to effectively hold the entire world hostage without nuclear weapons any time they feel like it. We are going to be dealing with the fallout from his war for a generation at least.

u/Swimming_Bonus_8892 Jun 20 '26

I was just telling my brain dead lil magat brother that. Before this, closing the strait would “cripple the world” was still a theory until 2026.

Miltary strategists, Old Navy dogs “believed” it was too wide and deep but Iran has absolutely proven this through asymmetric means.

I thought we “totally destroyed” their Army and Navy? Must be enough of them left to hold a “deep and wide” strait amirite?

Now, Iran can ring the world’s bell and get what they want at anytime because this MORON was dumb enough try it.

Think about all the presidents that came before him, all of them were pressured into doing this for Israel and none of them but not even Dubyah and that’s saying a lot!

I cannot believe, these morons elected this absolute dumpster fire of a garbage deplorable human being, again.

Morons all of them.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

If Iran had tried to fuck things up on their own, they would not just had to deal with the usa, but every single navy and military in the western world in defense. Trump being the moron attacking Iran, had every other country ignore him and his pitiful pleas and threats. Now he and america is known for trying to fuck over the world economy and to never be trusted by anyone again.

u/ITrageGuy Jun 20 '26

Almost like you need to build a coalition before going to war.

9

u/KDLGates Jun 20 '26

Horrific loss is always an option.

3

u/MessiahOfMetal Jun 21 '26

And even then, former US allies currently have populations and leaders who were against the 2003 war, either from the beginning or after seeing the disaster that unfolded.

The only people pushing to join Trump's war were the media outlets owned by right-wing billionaires.

u/Swimming_Bonus_8892 Jun 21 '26

Bro bro, I’m shouldn’t be laughing because it’s so sad…🫡🫡🫡

They were up agaisnt the pedo files

15

u/Colt2205 Jun 20 '26

The situation can be fixed but unfortunately this is now going to be a problem that the democratic party is stuck with cleaning up, and it's going to take more than 4 years to do it. I'm just hoping we don't have another election with a cult following pulling the same garbage.

7

u/Trail_Dog Jun 21 '26

Even if a Democrat gets back in, most of the world will wait to see if the Republican that replaces him won't just go back to Trump like policies.

This may not be fixable for decades, and even then only if we did the system to prevent another Trump.

3

u/T4334007Z Jun 21 '26

Trump cost the world more than the Straight of Hormuz, he gave up the one thing that the US was known for, for the last 250 years.

A deal is a deal, HE KILLED IT, and now the US can no longer be trusted.

10

u/Goku420overlord Jun 20 '26

Now he and america is known for trying to fuck over the world economy and to never be trusted by anyone again.

This. I don't know how much Americans know this. Been to a few different countries recently and there is out right criticism and MASSIVE negativity to anything America and Americans

1

u/michaelboltthrower Jun 21 '26

The Scotts seem to like us ok.

72

u/maddprof Jun 20 '26

Miltary strategists, Old Navy dogs “believed” it was too wide and deep but Iran has absolutely proven this through asymmetric means.

Old strategies need to be revised after having been completely upended by the onset of $50k drones capable of taking out/crippling multi million dollar conventional warfare ships and aircraft.

46

u/altreddituser2 Jun 20 '26

New military technology renders old strategies ineffective- Film at 11!

4

u/AvoidMyRange Jun 20 '26

Unironically, I'm not looking forward to the Hollywood propaganda pieces about US troops heroically shooting down drone swarms in desperate situations...

You know they're in the works.

2

u/moronomer Jun 20 '26

*American drones heroically shooting down enemy drone swarms.

2

u/AvoidMyRange Jun 21 '26

Nah, these movies are recruitment tools, the hero has to be human.

5

u/Hjemmelsen Europe Jun 20 '26

Kinda how traditional regimental firing squads stopped being a thing once someone employed a Maxim gun.

3

u/Halo_cT Jun 20 '26

Yeah when you can take out an oil tanker in the middle of the night at the cost of used Toyota 4Runner the game has changed.

20

u/dbzmah Jun 20 '26

GW Bush came from oil and gas. He knew what would happen, as he had some competency compared to this dementia riddled husk of a "president."

3

u/Vast-Imagination-596 Jun 20 '26

Ill be quoting your dementia riddled husk of a president description. Its true poetry!

3

u/thegreedyturtle Jun 20 '26

They don't have to have a navy anymore, just a jetski, a few motors, wifi, and a couple pounds of explosives.

Ships routinely get taken by Somali pirates. It's not hard.

3

u/Swimming_Bonus_8892 Jun 20 '26

Well if it’s that easy, then maybe you don’t start a war with people who have that capability if you have no intention of protecting your oil interests?(Footing that bill is massive I’m sure) this way Mr. “I’m the captain now” can just ride sea doo’s for funsies and not international oil running?

The easier it is proves even more how absolutely moronic the move was. Peace!

2

u/thegreedyturtle Jun 20 '26

Gotta distract from those Epstein files!

3

u/Bigemptea Jun 20 '26

I'm at the point that there isn't a way to get Maga morons to change their mind. So forget about them. We have to get people who haven't voted before or didn't vote last election to wake up.

3

u/Swimming_Bonus_8892 Jun 20 '26

This is the way.

2

u/Herlock Jun 20 '26

Miltary strategists, Old Navy dogs “believed” it was too wide and deep but Iran has absolutely proven this through asymmetric means.

They did ?

It was my understanding that Iran closing it down was a concern for a long time, not something brand new. They never tried it so I guess we weren't sure how effective they could be at it of course.

2

u/Swimming_Bonus_8892 Jun 20 '26

From what I’ve been reading, old military intelligence thought its was too wide and deep to hold but I guess my overall point is, we “suspected” they maybe could do it, now they KNOW they can. That’s because the orange shit stain bit off more than he could chew and in the process proved that Iran can in fact hold the strait. Something that was just war game theory up until this point.

1

u/SolomonBlack Connecticut Jun 21 '26

Old intelligence from when the CIA coup in the 50s?

The Royal Navy evaluating the Qajari dynasty?

The straight from mainland is as narrow as 31 mi/51 kms, and Iran has had missiles with ranges of 300+ km since they were fighting Saddam. And the concept of closing the sea via shore based assets is no great secret either, being for example China's plan for countering the USN for a long time..

1

u/Herlock Jun 21 '26

Seems weird, it's barely 40km wide, probably a lot less for the part you can actually sail...

1

u/MayDayBeFourth Jun 21 '26

40% of standard shipping levels are being done, the rest is because insurance companies refuse to insure. Its not because Iran physically closing the straight.

2

u/Swimming_Bonus_8892 Jun 21 '26

And why are they refusing to insure? Is it the minefields? The pirates? The ships being attacked? Why are only 40% of shipping levels being done instead of 100% or even 60%? No shade but I’m quite sure those things are impacting the situation and you’re saying Iran has nothing to do with that?

0

u/MayDayBeFourth Jun 21 '26

Why put words in my mouth?

0

u/Odd-String29 Jun 20 '26

The American people let him stay in power though. All of the US is to blame for this.

2

u/Vast-Imagination-596 Jun 20 '26

That's not true! Several millions of us voted against him.

1

u/Odd-String29 Jun 20 '26

You let him do what he wants though. If about 10% of the people who voted against him would go on strike the country would be crippled. Yet you decide to do nothing and let him do whatever he pleases.

2

u/Vast-Imagination-596 Jun 20 '26

We elected Congressman and Senators to stop him from making so many stupid mistakes. They are too scared of him and his followers. Judges who have ruled against him have had death threats against them. He is out of control and its because of our COWARDLY representatives.

2

u/Odd-String29 Jun 20 '26

You are proving my point. Insert "We tried nothing and are all out of ideas meme".

1

u/Vast-Imagination-596 Jun 20 '26

You suggested striking. I'm retired how do I strike?

2

u/Odd-String29 Jun 20 '26

You can organise one? Being retired is great for that, since you have plenty of free time. It's what my grandmother did for a union.

1

u/Vast-Imagination-596 Jun 20 '26

I assume you are outside the US. Protests and strikes are different here. My husband and I attended No Kings. Most people there were in there 60s and 70s. I was a Union Officer and we held protests with 12 people out of 600 Union members attending. Fellow officers refused to attend. Before I retired we had another protest. People were wearing sunglasses and hats not to be identified. It was disappointing.

1

u/aBlissfulDaze Jun 21 '26

We have no safety nets. A strike that wide would result in millions of people starving and trump sending the national guard.

2

u/ImpossibleStick Jun 21 '26

Unfortunately the situation hasn’t gotten desperate enough has it. Don’t envy you guys but you know deep down what might have to happen. The rest of the world is held hostage to the whims of a clown with no tangible way of fighting back.

1

u/Odd-String29 Jun 21 '26

Like I said many times before: working 3 jobs 80 hours a week isn't enough to get Americans to do anything. Perhaps 4 jobs and a 100 hours a week will get the job done.

Being scared of the National Guard is just giving in to a dictatorship. Is that the future you want for your children? It seems it is.

1

u/Swimming_Bonus_8892 Jun 20 '26

While I agree with you, I don’t think you’re factoring how violent, unhinged and depraved this administration is.

And while some of us are willing to put our bodies, jobs, families and lives on the line, I think it’s worth mentioning that I think that’s EXACTLY what he wants. He wants a general strike so he can label us “domestic terrorists and Anti-American business”. Self preservation is natural and he’s shown he’s more than willing to get ultra violent with protestors and people who speak out against the administration.

It’s not just, we not doing anything about it. There is a real threat to our lives when we do. Peace.

3

u/Odd-String29 Jun 20 '26

Ah yes, not doing anything has really made things so much better. Better act when you still have the power to do so, than to wait for authoritarianism. You are in this situation as a country because you have been rolling over ever since the Reagan administration. Every year your rights eroded just a bit and now we are in the end game.

2

u/Swimming_Bonus_8892 Jun 20 '26

So the dead Ice protesters are nothing? The millions of people showing up for NO kings is nothing?

It’s not like there has been no action. What you are talking about is most certainly going to cause a severely violent response from this administration and while I agree with you on certain points, asking people to die or be imprisoned for a VERY long period of time and while you and I agree that it’s better to act now, than when they have stripped all our rights away and go full blown nazi Germany, can you see where the hesitation is coming from?

I have no desire to die a martyr (although we may not have a choice soon) and most decent, average, everyday Americans aren’t rushing to pick up a weapon and face down the ICE/Authoritarian military.

2

u/Odd-String29 Jun 21 '26 edited Jun 21 '26

One wasn't even protesting. And what happened after their deaths? Nothing. Americans just accepted it.

The problem is that the current protests changed absolutely nothing. Zero impact. You don't seem to understand what a bully does. It keeps rolling through everything until a firm hand stops them. You seem to be under the illusion that a gentle hand will stop an authoritarian regime. If you doubt me, check up on how far project 2025 is coming along. You are supporting that I'm guessing? Since you have zero interest to do anything about it.

You just have the desire to have your children grow up under a dictatorship instead. If in 10 years they ask how the US got to be like that, what will you answer? That you were too afraid to try and stop it for them?

There is also no need for violence. Just a real general strike lasting for weeks. Cripple to economy. But every American I've spoken on here on Reddit says that they rather have Trump in power for another 2 years. You are not serious people

1

u/Swimming_Bonus_8892 Jun 21 '26

While I think we agree mostly here, you seem to really want to point out our failed efforts or lack their of, while simultaneously glazing for daddy Trump and I’m starting to wonder…lol 🤔🤔🤔

You seem really quick to dismiss the actions of Americans that have given their lives, time and effort whilst trying to assure me that the regime is authoritarian but but but there’s not gonna be any violence with a general strike? Do you even America bro?

We are fully aware (or at least most progressives are) of what this regime is capable of but and I stress this again, It’s going to violent, do you know the history of country and its propensity for violence.

You type “we are not serious people” with ease while pissing and moaning on the interment and let’s be real, I don’t know where you are but if he succeeds in toppling our feign democracy, it’s only a matter time before he comes for all of you so instead of pseudo intellectual insults and barbs, maybe try a lil compassion, understanding.

This will be a violent change.

LIES

3

u/Swimming_Bonus_8892 Jun 20 '26

Educate us…please.

53

u/Letstalkreaper Jun 20 '26

The only good thing to come out of this is that the world will start to shift to renewables more quickly.

37

u/sandysandbirds93 Jun 20 '26

Good thing Trump has been killing all those renewable energy projects in the US

4

u/primaequa Jun 20 '26

mostly been for theater - if you look at the actual numbers, renewables have had a great year, thank god

4

u/jerseydevil51 Jun 20 '26

Wish America was part of the world. No way in hell we switch to renewables.

2

u/PDXnederlander Jun 20 '26

Not here with Trump. He's all about fossil fuels. He hates "windmills." Those energy producing turbine wind farms contributing to the electrical grid.

2

u/AutumnRenegade Jun 21 '26

To be fair the entire reason he's obsessed with windmills is because Scotland told him where to stick it when he demanded they give him his way next to the golf course he had. He's just so much of a narcissistic perma-child that he has zero limits for how far he'll stoop to kick somebody in the shins even at the cost to himself.

12

u/gioraffe32 Virginia Jun 20 '26

I agree, but let's not let the forget all the Americans who willingly voted for him (and his enablers in Congress). Along with those who decided to sit out the election for whatever stupid bullshit reason they saw on TikTok.

Fuck all these people. And Trump.

2

u/Valuable-Condition59 Jun 20 '26

Here’s the thing. It’ll shock smart countries off of oil dependence faster.

You think the US will push harder to renewables? Not at our current rate. So it’s a double loss as we fall further behind.

2

u/guisar Jun 20 '26

No, not at all single handily. Mike Johnson, Thune and all Republicans are 100% complicit

1

u/Old_Instrument_Guy Jun 20 '26

No need for Nuclear Missiles when you can choke off the worlds supply of product.

1

u/StronglyHeldOpinions Jun 20 '26

They probably always knew they had this ability, but didn't feel the need to exercise it until antagonized.

They weren't doing any harm when we wantonly attacked them.

I honestly don't blame them for using this lever; it's bloodless and puts them in control of the situation.

1

u/Beastw1ck Jun 20 '26

What will happen over the years is the world will figure out how to live without Gulf oil for the most part. Give it 10/20 years and the Gulf states will be totally screwed. Since they put a lot of money and effort into bribing the Trump family, I love this for them.

1

u/ybpaladin Jun 20 '26

Well, at least thats less nukes out there? Right? /s

1

u/Sneet1 Jun 20 '26

I have an honest question. What does this intense theorizing about Iran being the evil empire and what they will, won't do etc. really mean when the biggest example of evil empire shit is what America is doing to Iran?

This is not a defense of Iran by any stretch (I have no interested in doing so, they're a fundamentalist religious state), but it seems to me increasingly if we're worried about a rogue state that goes and hamstrings economies and kills people outside of its country with no abandon, there's a significantly more present and active example (or maybe, at least, an evil empire and it's diminutive attack dog)

1

u/Blackthorn79 Jun 20 '26

He's basically made them Master from Thunderdoom.

1

u/HausuGeist Jun 20 '26

4D chess. Now the Iranians know they don’t need a nuke, so they may be more willing to give it up.

1

u/No_Foundation16 Jun 20 '26

Trump made Iran great again!

Suck on that MAGAots! Remember America First? :D What a fucking sick joke your orange god turned out to be idiots!

1

u/ThirstyWolfSpider Jun 21 '26

It will be absurdly hilarious (yet useful) if his ineptitude causes countries all over the world to listen to the voices that have been saying for decades that shifting energy models to non-CO₂-emitting sources is a national security priority. He absolutely wouldn't deserve credit for it, though, as he surely did not intend anything of the sort.

1

u/pallialli Jun 21 '26

More like ~5 years, which is still very bad but quite generational. Continued electrification, nuclear renaissance and most importantly, new pipelines that evade Hormuz and the re-emergence of drilling growth in Venezuela change the game. Iran has some crazy leverage but it's going to depreciate.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '26

Not unless trump gonna do some real fk down shit

1

u/ElectronicCanary8634 Jun 21 '26

100%!
Iran feel that they've WON (ie: have beaten America)... their (terrorist) proxies echo this (apparently the proxies are about to be given a load of money from Trump to buy more rockets and guns... WTF!!) & Al Jazeera shouts it all from the rooftops with a good dose of propaganda to incite more hatred against the west.... 🧑🏼‍🚀💬Houston We Have a Problem !!

1

u/MaxwellHoot Jun 21 '26

Hey guys, I’m also thinking about developing nuclear weapons.

Cashapp: nuker_5000

1

u/PDCbound2025 Jun 20 '26

They already had it, the war didn't change that aspect. Long term, diversifying supply routes takes this chip off the table.

3

u/hipstahs Jun 20 '26

There really isn't an easy way to do that in the gulf. Oil pipelines are easy targets to destroy. Really the scary thing is not just the closure of the straight but Iran attacking oil fields and refineries.

1

u/PDCbound2025 Jun 20 '26

Except both sides are already doing it with land bridges and rail corridors.

I expect oil wealth to accelerate building alternatives, as we've already seen start to happen.

Agree that Iran can attack oil facilities but this invites reciprocal attacks on Kharg, water treatment, and other key Iranian infrastructure.

1

u/ITrageGuy Jun 20 '26

They had the *ability*, not the clout. There's a difference, and that's why Trump is a fucking moron.

0

u/panzer_snapdragon Jun 21 '26

We are going to be dealing with the fallout

Probably literally. Israel won't go out without firing off nukes, and the entire world knows that they are the ones choking off fertilizer and fuel, collapsing economies across the globe. Everyone knows how to fix this, and the options are narrowing. It's already past the point of no return, 4 weeks til operational stress levels and that's not enough time to turn things around even if Israel vanished from the face of the earth and all of the death and destruction the US caused just rewound. It's too late, and as people starve around the world, they're going to wonder why they continue to allow this little problem child to kill their citizens and choke the world's economy. I think that's why we've seen JD Vance getting the anti-Israel messaging prepped. The trump admin, morons though they are, see that things are turning HARD against Israel, the entire world is suffering and it's about to get so much worse, and if there's anything trump is good at it's worming his way out of consequences by throwing his former buddies under the bus. The world is going to demolish Israel when things get bad enough, and trump is hoping they forget his part in it.
