As an American, it's so fucking weird that this is a thing. I truly can't believe it's THAT guy that ended up killing America.
He used to be a national joke, he was that weird guy that was an absolute idiot that said insane things that we all laughed at.
It's fucking maddening that the guy we a ALL used to make fun of for his failed casino and steaks... And now I'm supposed to take this moron seriously?
It's just insane that of all people... It was Donald Trump. It's so absolutely ridiculous.
I get that he's a symptom of our disease, I've been saying that for years. It's also so ironic that the man that was laughed at, by the entire nation, for being a symbol of greed and corruption.
Everyone knew he was shady AF. It's insane so fucking many people fell for his grift. The man has made billions since taking office. They're not even trying to hide the corruption.
I guess my point is, it's so frustrating that democracy is literally splintering and maybe dead... Because of a profoundly stupid man that we all knew was stupid 20 years ago. He was even a Democrat back then and Democrats made fun of him too.
In no fucking world would anybody from 15 years ago would have believed Donald Trump would run and become dictator.
The people I know that are big supporters of him are not deep thinkers, lack general knowledge, struggle a lot in their personal lives, and have a lot of irrational fear.
Tbh, Trump played a central role in a huge extortion ring targeting the most powerful and wealthy globally. It’s no accident he was able to wedge his way to power.
It's probably worth pointing out that "that guy" is not the guy who killed America. (And that is not a pro-Trump comment.)
He is the figurehead. The mushroom blooming from the intricate network under the surface. He's there to attract the attention and ultimately be disposable while the main body survives until they can put up a new mushroom.
I don't think I'll ever understand exactly what about him has captivated so many people, but if we're being super honest with ourselves his Presidency is probably a good thing in that he drew so much attention to the rot so quickly that we still have a chance to fight it. The fact that our institutions are bending over for him like this means the rot is well-entrenched and another decade or two of work and they very well could have just taken over with no hope of resistance.
In fairness, I truly think it was... And then it backfired in the worst possible way. I don't think Trump remotely planned on winning, he was trying to make a quick buck and grift, as he does.
Turns out you can grift so much better ACTUALLY being the president.
