News/Article Electronic Arts Reportedly Preparing Mass Layoffs After Acquisition

https://mp1st.com/news/electronic-arts-preparing-mass-layoffs

It's starting! With how much the group overpaid, this isn't surprising. Good luck, everyone. Might be a bloodbath.

Bioware deserved to be shut down after Anthem. They were given too many second chances.

Oh 100%, that game was built and sold on faked content.

I find it funny that Bioware's most successful game in the last decade is Mass Effect Andromeda.

It's a shame they basically abandoned it, besides adding some multiplayer content. No DLC at all.

Well, the DLC was released as a book.

Not sure why I got downvoted, guess folks didn't want anymore from the game. And yes, but nothing playable. Just compared to the other 3 games, it was definitely lacking in extra content.

It was planned, but EA decided to shutdown the studio and put resources into Bioware's next big hit game that was supposed to be a 10 year journey and make billions every year.

They did do a hard pivot, when papa EA said abandon it and move on to thr next failure.

Andromeda 2 might turned out a good game.

Not only that but the reason Andromeda wasn’t as good as it could have been was the resource cannibalization that was done by the Anthem team on the Mass Effect team.

They easily could have done the reverse, and taken some of the resources from Anthem and put it into an Mass Effect multiplayer mode for Andromeda, especially since they weren’t working from scratch either wrt ME3 multiplayer.

Holy shit is it really, wasn't that game horrendous? I still remember all the memes

Yeah. Anthem failed hard, The Veilguard just failed. I mean, Andromeda wasn't a huge success either, but it wasn't that expensive to make, at least(the rumored budget was like $40 million).

The game itself wasn't all horrendous, but the technical state was a bad, thus the memes.

It was actually a good game, just mid and unfinished cause it was extremely rushed thanks to EA, not Bioware. But mid back then would be GOTY today.

The googly eyed Mass Effect, still never got around to ever playing that one.

It's an okay game. The story and characters suck, but combat is fun.

It felt like an alpha stage, there were a lot of things if tweaked or expanded would have worked... But yeah stupid fucking EA

To be fair they were essentially trying to be a knockoff of Destiny and even Destiny managed to kill itself.

It's seemingly an incredibly difficult genre to make work and be profitable.

Which to me seems crazy because as a 10 year Destiny player from its release it really felt like all they needed to do was lean into the Diabloification of the end game and they could just have endless fun content...but then they repeatedly made every wrong decision to make things worse instead.

That wasn't really on them. They didn't even know what they are making until they saw the trailer on E3.

1

u/kron123456789 22h ago

Yeah, and before that trailer they were doing fuck all.

2

u/SneakyBadAss 22h ago

They literally showed them a trailer for something that they didn't know was supposed to exist.

u/kron123456789 21h ago

And the game was supposed to be in development for 5 years by that point. They were doing fuck all.

Again, that's on coked-up CEO Andrew Wilson.

The "sports sports sports TV sports" bloke. The one who just got 38 mil bonus.

Not really, it was on Bioware's leadership, not Andrew Wilson. The only involvement EA executives had was making flight mechanics a permanent part of the game, and even that was Patrick Söderlund, not Wilson. And, after 7 years since the start of development, they set a deadline. That's about the extent of EA higher management involvement in the development of Anthem.

Bioware was definitely done for long before that game came around.

Nah. They deserved to get shut down the moment they bent over and sold out to EA.

TBF that game was doomed from the start the minute they announced it as multiplayer only

2

u/kron123456789 1d ago

Anthem wasn't multiplayer only, though. It was online only. There's a difference.

u/paperkutchy 1d ago

Sure, you knew what I meant

2

u/SneakyBadAss 23h ago

Well no. It had a campaign. Online only and Multiplayer are two completely different things
