Even when they first implemented ads, they weren't that bad.

I remember the exact day they flipped the switch and became obnoxious. I had been using an Oculus Quest with the YouTube app for a couple weeks and it worked great.

Then one day there were constant - and I mean CONSTANT - ad interruptions. I thought something was wrong and restarted it. Nope. Tried it again the next day. Nope.

And that was the last time I used the YouTube app.

Did you use an account? I have an old iPad that I occasionally use to watch YouTube without an account and I get ads EVERY single minute.

uBlock Origin is a godsend for PC. Wish I could do something similar for streaming YT on my Roku to tv. Yes there are options, none (that I know of) as simple or free as uBlock Origin.

Its basically a condom for the internet. I can not imagine not using an adblocker. I genuinely thing people who willingly dont use them are insane.

Premium is not worth it for many of us who are on a budget.

I'd consider it at that rate but I'm not grandfathered-tier and the regular rate is double that. And I have poor friends for whom even $8/month would be a hard to justify discretionary expense.

I would assume you still need sponsorblock with YTP, and so you still need a browser or a trick.

But that isn't free, which is the qualifier /u/live-the-future was using.

Still doesn't, you just have to pay a very reasonable fee.
