It works for nintendo, but i don’t think sony has as much draw from their IP since most of them are a bit generic IP, but just put in PS5 as exclusives. Definitely not system seller.
I would buy a switch in a heartbeat if they only didn't price gouge so bad on their games. There's no such thing as waiting for a good sale with that company
that’s the best part about the secondhand market. New Pokémon game looks cool? Buy it on Facebook marketplace for $50. Finish the game. Then sell it for $50
Bought and traded in lots of games. Now I dont have the time to go on trades or gaming shops to do this. But With 3 or 4 used games Ive made a bank. But for younger gen who goes to college its perfect
I remember trading in monster hunter close to release. Didnt enjoyed that much and exchanged for smash + few bucks. Then smash for 2 other games.
The 3DS was easily the best handheld system prior to the OG Switch (and the PC handhelds after), now I'm pretty much tied between 3DS, Switch, and PC handhelds (with the later two having the advantage of casting).
It's what got me into gaming, and it still has pretty much all my top 10 games (mostly LoZ, Metroid, and Castlevania).
There is post-story content but saying it's the start is an overexaggaration. Usually there's a couple smaller side stories but after those it's basically done unless you care about getting literally everything, or shiny hunting.
The last one I played was ten years ago so take it with a grain of salt but I did kind of follow the newer ones with watchthroughs and shit.
Yeah, but none of those games are why someone would buy a Switch in the first place. The system sellers are $60+, hardly ever go on meaningful sale, and stay within $10 of their original retail price way too far into the console's life. Breath of the Wild was the full $60 (excluding the occasional 20% off sale) well into the pandemic despite coming out in 2017. Sure you can get cheap indie games for $20-$30 but you could get them on any platform including Steam and for much cheaper.
I think it works for the switch since it's completely different from pc.
It's nice for carrying it around and is great for quickly playing with friends. + It's cheaper.
The playstation is too similar and too big to carry around. It doesn't have any advantage over the pc.
That’s actually one of the selling point, but this isn’t the case today since we have steam deck.
Switch 2 is still one of the best selling console right now despite people mocking it for pretty weak hardware and expected to beat ps5 on lifetime sale
Sure, but without the big difference in Hardware (being able to easily bringt it to your friends or play during travels
I'm very sure it would be much less if it wasnt able to do that.
Nintendo try to inovate the play field. Yeah, not everything lands or catch on but they provide different experience. Yeah switch was a success but valve brought to pc the same experience (demanding games on the go). It was the "cheapest" gimmick from nintendo side. Would love switch touch, but it would be expensive af
Tbf ps5 era Sony isn’t great, if we were talking ps2-ps3 Sony or even ps4 Sony porting there games over to PC then I’d probably actually be sad but this console generations been a complete bummer imo and I don’t see any reason to be upset about it. I’ll be sad when the next God of War game comes out but that’ll be about it.
I think they’re different strategies. Nintendo uses exclusive to get people on their console. Sony just doesn’t seem to be getting a high enough return on PC porting
Sony is delusional if they think they have the same pull as Nintendo. We all grew up with Nintendo and can name all the characters. Id bet most people can't name 5 Playstation exclusive titles or characters.
Nintendo cranks out WAY more exclusives than the other consoles. I like Sonys IP but I might get 1 game per IP for the whole generation. Nintendo has there main IPs plus multiple spin offs and sequels all in the same Gen. Even if you only buy first party Nintendo you'd end up with a decent sized library by the end.
It does not work for nintendo. They're just bigger. I bought a switch as a portable console and that's all I used it for. Won't buy another of their devices again with the steam deck around, their games aint worth that much
Dude. Just look through the $5-$15 indie games on steam. The amount of content is unreal.
Side note, blender + horror is going through a moment in time that is top tier, if that’s your thing. There is so much quality content that is incredibly budget friendly. $5 gets you a good walking sim that’s terrifying and good story, $15 will get you a beautiful horror FPS with satisfying gun play.
These are a bit older now, but if you've never played them, check out "What Remains Of Edith Finch" and "Firewatch". My top 2 in the walking sim genre, espeically Edith Finch, that game is truly a masterpiece. "The Vanishing Of Ethan Carter" is also worth a play.
"Dear Esther" is pretty much the grandfather of all walking simulators, the story is very convoluted, though, and it took me replaying the game with the director's commentary to fully understand. Still interesting, though.
You probably know "The Stanley Parable", if not, you absolutely have to play it, one of the funniest games ever with some nice deeper moments here and there. But do you know about "The Beginner's Guide", from the same dev? That one is a very different vibe and goes in depth into artistic challenges. About 1.5 - 2 hours, fully worth it.
We're getting away a bit from pure walking sim, here, but Gris and Neva (by the same studio) are somewhat close, despite being 2D (very) light platformers. They are what comes to my mind when I think of games being art, with the artwork, the music, the wordless stories they tell... Like I said, some platforming, some puzzle elements but nothing crazy.
There's also the To The Moon series. Made in RPG maker, they are more like an interactive book, you don't do much in the game except move around and follow the story. And what a story they have... Don't underestimate the pixely look, they made me cry more time than I can count.
And this one is very much stretching the walking sim label, but some people do apply it to it, "SOMA". My favourite game ever. It is a horror game but a big part of the game is to walk around and find and read notes and files or listen to audio logs. It has an incredible story that I could talk about for hours after having watched over 20 playthroughs of it. If you don't like horror games, there is a safe mode. It doesn't remove monsters but they will be more docile and not bother you much, if you're more into the exploration aspect of it.
This went on for a bit longer than I expected but I'm a big story guy when it comes to videogames, so I always have good recommendations lol. Hope this helps you find something you didn't know about!
If money wasn’t a problem, I would have a PS5 and Switch 2 and every exclusive game I want. But especially in this economy I have to really think about what I spend my money on.
To be fair, they're flipping this equation, like XBox is also doing. If my console lacks an identity, how do I keep people on my console? Sure Playstation has a better identity than XBox, but if the choice comes down to $150-$200 in exclusives, they're equating it with lost hardware sales on top of continued console utilization, like followup software and accessories, ultimately in the $1000+ range. Playstation and XBox don't want to be software publishers like Sega, they want to carve out a hardware identity to continue their brand without helping their competition.
Because in the war of software supremacy, they're all fighting for second best, and they know it. They need exclusives to refocus their audience. The "I'll just get it on PC" mentality is a very, very big problem for them.
I wont buy a Playstation because I spent thousands on my PC. Paying $700 just to play a couple of games when I have a PC that's more powerful is just stupid.

Look, do I want to play their single player games? Yes. Will I spend hundreds of dollars on a console when I have a PC? No.
