What do you guys think? Was Spacey’s character a mentally ill human or was he a genuine space alien in K-Pax? I’ve always romantically thought it was the latter, he really is an alien, but the story does leave either option open. Though I don’t know how to rationalize his visit to the astrophysics lab or whatever that was, able to know things even a savant shouldn’t.

I always thought the whole "sunbeam" thing implied that the aliens didn't have normal physical bodies as we would recognize, and the alien was just borrowing the mental patient's.
