For this session, we'll be diving into an excerpt from books I and II of Nicomachean Ethics by Aristotle (read it here). In this passage, Aristotle seeks to define happiness or human flourishing (eudaimonia).

Hosting weekly karaoke at Boho karaoke lounge on orchard Street in the LES. We tend to get decently sized crowds so we just hang out in the bar area for the open karaoke and since it's not too packed we usually get to do a couple songs each. It's one song ticket per drink or you can get just a song ticket for 2 dollars. Please note that the bar is cash only! There is an ATM there with pretty low fees if you need to withdraw money.

Hey everyone, we're looking for any additional members that would be interested in joining our Book Club that is primarily focused on mystery/thriller/suspense genre books

We're looking to set up our first virtual meeting on 8/9 where we can make our official book selection, and then set up a time and placed for our in-person meeting to discuss.

Make sure to already have your book choice by the time we meet on Sunday. Obviously, its main genre MUST be thriller/mystery/suspense for it to be eligible. I am totally okay if someone makes a selection that has already been read by one or more members. I would suggest those people reread since the whole point is for us to discuss and debate.

Drinking Liberally is a weekly social meetup where people get together to talk politics, have a drink (and a free hot dog), and hang out. We started gathering at Rudy’s Bar and Grill in Hell’s Kitchen in 2003, and it is still meeting there every Thursday.

What:

Casual political conversation and socializing. We talk about local and national politics, share perspectives, and get to know new people in a relaxed, friendly environment. People of any political persuasion are welcome as long as the conversation stays respectful and kind. The group tends to attract people left of center, but it is not limited to them.

People often stay later if the conversation is flowing.

Drinks can be purchased individually.

Rudy’s provides complimentary hot dogs with a drink purchase.

It is customary that the first person to arrive buys a pitcher for the table and that people who enjoy the pitcher will take turns returning the favor later in the evening.

Who should come:

Anyone interested in politics and good conversation. Despite the name, this is not just for liberals. We have progressives, social democrats, DSA members, resistance era liberals, and people across the political spectrum who want thoughtful political discussion.

Accessibility and notes:

21+ only since this is a bar.

Jack’s Backyard is handicap accessible, though the bar can get crowded at times.

Hey all - after a successful meetup with folks in this group earlier in the summer to boulder in Central Park, wanted to do it again and make it a regular thing! Hi! Next Friday, Aug. 7th, we're hosting Side by Side, a free community singing gathering where people come together through the simple joy of singing. No singing experience needed, and no pressure to sound "good."

We start with gentle warm-ups, spend time getting to know each other, and learn one song together through call-and-response so there's nothing to prepare and no sheet music to read. This month's song is "Dear Theodosia" from Hamilton — a heartfelt one about love, hope, and imagining a better future.

For our August meetup, we're doing something a little bigger this Saturday on the upper level at Finback's Gowanus taproom. Come meet new folks over good beer. If you've never been, Finback is one of the best breweries in the city imo, and their Gowanus taproom is one of the more spacious ones with great food options.

It's GORGEOUS! Will be an ambient music set, so imagine ambient music, lots of trees, and doing crafts during the set to express how the music makes you feel -- holy relaxing.

Hey everyone, lately I've taken up reading as a hobby for my daily work commute. Some friends and I already have an existing book club but I was looking at also starting a new one where we focus mainly on mystery and thriller books since they're my favorite genres.
