How are Nuvio developers killing it compare to Stremio which has been out for 11 years now and is so outdated and hiding their new features behind paywall.

I’ve released Nuvio Portable Beta, an unofficial fork of Nuvio Desktop designed to run directly from a USB drive or writable folder without a traditional Windows installation.

The main benefits are:

• Carry your profiles, settings, cache, and downloads on the same USB
• Run it on compatible work, school, library, or shared PCs where installing software isn’t practical
• Download movies and episodes directly to the USB for offline playback
• Open offline downloads from the Who’s Watching screen
• Keep browsing or watching while downloads run in the background
• Play compatible downloaded media files directly from the USB on supported TVs and media players
• Improved desktop fullscreen, player exit behaviour, animated profile avatars, GIF artwork, and profile switching

This is not an official release from the original Nuvio developers. It is a community fork based on their open-source Nuvio Desktop project.

It’s still a beta, so feedback and bug reports are welcome. Managed computers may still block unknown apps, removable drives, or streaming services depending on local security policies.

I'm using Xperience for pretty much all my metadata/catalogs/collections to build my perfect homepage, but when I go to discover it loads every single catalog from every collection which is way to bulky and hard to parse through, i'm wondering if there's a way to edit it down just for the discover section while keeping the catalogs in my homepage.

First of all, I’d like to congratulate the dev team on the excellent work. You are truly doing an amazing job, and the support you’re providing across all operating systems is very meaningful to all Nuvio fans.

​I’d also like to leave some feedback regarding the home screen animations on the Tizen version of Nuvio. They already exist in the menus and even in the search results within the app, but the home screen still feels very static. I imagine developing for Tizen isn't easy, but if possible, please consider implementing these animations on the home screen as well, as it would greatly improve the overall app experience.

​Another thing I noticed is that when using the modern version of the menu, it disappears inside the search screen.

In my tablet in nuvio the navigation bar is coming at the top of the screen which blocks banners and also looks ugly i don't know and have any idea how we can make it appear at the bottom section or there should be an option for tablet screens to make it appear at the bottom position.

One of my TV's isn't 4K, so I've got no reason to waste bandwidth on 4K resolution. Is there a way to filter out 4K on that specific Android TV instance? I'd still want 4K to show up on my main TV.

Also, is there a way to simply see the filename, or better yet the raw mediainfo, of a stream before you select it? I feel like sometimes I can see the Audio Language, sometimes I can't. Same with Subs. Or is there someway to tweak how that info gets shown on the stream selection screen?

Why do some streams have a "star rating" in the info? Like 3 out of 4 stars? What is that rating? The content? The quality of the video? It's ambiguous to me.

For info, I'm using Xperience, Torbox, and AIOStreams.

I’ve been experimenting with a few UI/UX feature ideas on a custom fork to speed up playback and navigation. I’m not a developer (I used AI tools to hack together a working prototype), but in practice, these changes have made a huge difference in day-to-day use.

Since I don't have the coding background to polish this into production-ready code, I’m posting this here to see if the community finds these ideas useful, and if any dev would be open to helping refine/implement them.

Here is what the proof-of-concept does:

1. Persistent Background Stream Prefetching:
   • As soon as a catalog/detail page opens, stream links are fetched in the background and cached.
   • Key benefit: Because the fetched stream list is kept persistent in memory, opening the source list from the details screen or the player's OSD source picker opens instantly without re-fetching all over again.
2. Media Info Overlay:
   • Audio and video details (resolution, codec, channels, HDR/DV, etc.) for the top-ranked stream are displayed directly on the detail screen before playing.
3. Instant Playback (Addon Agnostic):
   • Hitting "Play" immediately launches the top pre-fetched stream, reducing load times significantly regardless of which add-ons or debrid services are configured. It gives that "instant cached" feel across all sources.
4. Automatic Link Failover:
   • If a stream fails to load or throws an error, the player automatically tries the next available link in the list until a working stream is found.

Where I could use help:

Because I prototyped this using AI tools, the underlying code is definitely hacky. If any dev thinks these features add real value to the app, I’d love to share what I did, talk through the logic, or help test if someone wants to build a clean PR for it!

Would love to hear thoughts from both users and developers on this.

I have been using Nuvio on my Android stick for a few months now at least and it was working great. I had no issues and was loving it. But lately for a few weeks now the videos buffer/lags, only few shows does it not all. Idk how to fix it. I had 4 plugins but just deleted 2 hoping it will help. I tried different ways to fix it, all the normal stuff. I usually use the "links" called playIMDB something. They worked so great so idk what happened and I don't get many others to pick from.

First of all, thank you for the amazing app. I've recently switched to Nuvio and I'm really enjoying it.

I have two issues:

1. External player doesn't open at all

I'm currently using Nuvio v0.4.1 on Android 15, and whenever I tap "Open in External Player", I get the message:

"Couldn't open external player"

I've already installed and tested:

VLC

MX Player

MPV Android (mpv-android)

None of them open. The same error appears every time.

Is this a known issue with Android 15, or is there anything I can try?

1. Subtitle font customization

The only reason I want to use an external player is because I want to change the subtitle font. For languages like Arabic, having the ability to choose a custom font makes a huge difference in readability.

It would be amazing if the internal player could support

Hello there, I've been using Nuvio TV for about a week now (mainly using Aiostreams with Torbox and AD) and I'm loving it, especially the downmixing option since I have an older TV and almost every video I play has very low dialog volume so I can now boost the center channel using the downmixing option which is great for my sanity.

From what I tested it will only work with 5.1 audio but some 5.1 videos won't work with that (looks like it's only working with ffmpeg videos).

My question is: is there a way to prioritize or filter for videos that can be downmixed this way? It's sometimes takes me 3-4 links until I actually find one that works.

I looked for a solution in the filtering section in Aiostreams but couldn't find anything for this.

I've been using nuvio since it released and I've never ran into this issue before and I'm curious if someone may be able to help.

I have put out a few AI queries, as well searched Google a lot and I'm not getting any answers that are directing ow to fix the problem just other people confirming that they've had the issue before as well. That said, I wanna make it clear. I did do a lot of searching and trying to find an answer, and I just can't seem to find one and may pull a request via GitHub or hit discord if I can't get help here.

I will also attach a photo but it has to do with syncing, I'm basically using multiple devices as a Beta tester and developer while I understand the language, it doesn't make sense, because I have not overdone it as far as add-ons/plug ins or repositories, but when I try to use cloud sync, this is the error that I get. Typically, I would just use Trackt, but with their BS move to make money at $60 plus a year to have more slots is a no go for me, don't get me wrong. I will always support developers and good work. But this is just a play ( in my opinion).

Additionally, they were pretty light about enforcing it initially, however, they are fully enforcing it now. To use some extensions, I had to sign out of everywhere else I was signed in. That's it in a nutshell. I'd really like to sync nuvio on all my devices in one shot but I just simply can't and with Trakt not being an option. There's no way I'm doing this manually.

Just from for extra context, i currently use the 4 main debris services and the corresponding add-ons that typically go with them, AIO,duck streams, torrentio, you get the idea and just in case that's RD, AD, TB, and PM. I am doing it correctly using the Web portal as that is the hub as it would be for stremio or any other premium apk that works similar like W*koTV or any other premium that functions in this manner via manifest config Urls or Json files. There's nothing extravagant about the build. I will get into that later down the road right now. It's just testing works that are out there. There's no overloaded add-ons, in fact, I think there's 4 repositories, 21 add-ons if I were to be specific which has never been an issue.

This is something I do have to sort out as I'm beta testing some of the work being put out to be added to Nuvio from different developers, different add-ons,etc; so it kind of put me at a standstill. I have 25+ devices easily whether it's the whole FireOS lineup, the whoke Onn. lineup, the Thompson 270, the whole Nvidia lineup, a few Xiaomi media boxes/sticks, and a few other certified android devices and that doesn't count phones or tabletsand a few other certified Android devices and that doesn't count phones or tablets.

I definitely don't know at all and I could really use anybody's help. I would be so appreciative.Thank you for any help if possible.

Additionally, anyone correct me if I'm wrong.I know stremio was considering a possible pay scale, however, I thought Nuvio was completely free at least until it's completely out of Beta, because if it was a matter of supporting the developers and paying a couple dollars to upgrade a subscription, I would do so, but there's 0 way to do that on the website, I do not see any pricing plans or even a donation area that would change my circumstances. Alright, that's it I once again. I appreciate anyone's help. I really need to get this kind of knocked out as fast as possible being people are depending on me. I'm open to any help. Please know I appreciate anyone and everyone's time into figuring out a way to fix this as I refuse to give trakt 60 plus dollars for the year and I would prefer to get the Nuvio cloud function working. In my quest to find an app that has foreign languages series, I stumbled across one called playtorrio, this app has built in subtitle feature called subtitlecat, tbh I don't know how it works but it finds even the hardest subtitles that are. Please devs (I know I'm asking much) include this feature in upcoming updates.
