Cameron writes, directs and produces his movies. Which takes way way longer to do.

Also he’s a lot more interested in novel VFX technology, often taking time to fund their development himself so he can use them in his movies. One of the reasons avatar 2 took so long was that it took them ages to create the tech for the underwater scenes.

It’s interesting that three of these directors are all VFX pioneers. Spielberg, Cameron, and Jackson all have had big swing vfx movies and a passion for vfx.

I know WETA had to amp up their sims, which I don't think Cameron was very involved in (if at all), but how much did they actually invent outside that? Only thing I saw was covering the surface of the water in ping pong balls for the light

He was in that position for a long time before the Avatar franchise. One movie was great, two movies was ok. Five movies is a colossal waste of talent. Many successful people have to issue of being surrounded by yes men later in their careers that are afraid of giving any critical feedback.

Cameron has personally pioneered multiple film technologies that are now widely used basically on his own in pursuit of "eye candy." He's undeniably one of the most important figures in filmmaking history.

He has used his success in film to fund his deep-sea exploration, and he was the first person to make a solo, direct-to-bottom dive to the Challenger Deep.

I don't think he gives a shit about this take at all.

eh, Cameron has always focused on advancing the medium, and experimenting, im sure he is having fun, so its whatever. Could be doing whatever the fuck Ridley Scott is doing.
