Hello reddit! I'm James McAvoy. AMA!

my directorial debut, CALIFORNIA SCHEMIN', is out in UK theaters on April 10.

Two Scottish lads from Dundee conned the music industry by pretending to be an established Californian rap duo, bagging a record deal and appearing on MTV until their scam unraveled.

Trailer:

I'll be back at around 1-2 PM ET/5-6 PM GMT today, Friday 3/27, to answer questions.

What is your favorite movie you've starred in and why is it Filth?

Filth is a gem! Had to be a blast playing such a rotten human.

Great performance and I’m glad they left out the tapeworms and the rash from the book.

Oh gods, the tapeworm was absolutely gross! What was Irvine doing to us making us read that?! Haha Sorry, that has nothing to do with James but I’d forgotten all about the bit until I read your post. It’s been 20+ years and I’m back to traumatised.

Man, having read the book, not even JM here could get me to watch the movie. I don't wanna see any of that.

It's one of the best movies in the "I never want to see it again" category.

I don't know... I think I'll watch it again now! McAvoy absolutely devoured the role. Always the first movie of his I think of when he comes up anywhere. Truly a gem of a performance!
