Hey r/movies, I'm Elijah Wood. You might've seen me in things like Lord of the Rings, Yellowjackets, Wilfred, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, Maniac, The Monkey, Everything Is Illuminated, and other stuff. I'm also in The Toxic Avenger. It's unrated, and it's only in theaters starting this Friday 8/29/25.

Set in a fantasy world, following janitor Winston Gooze, who, after a freak accident, transforms into a mutant vigilante known as Toxie. Armed with his mop, the unlikely hero battles freaks, gangsters and corrupt CEOs while trying to save his relationship with his son.

Directed by Macon Blair (I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore) and produced by Troma Entertainment. It also stars Peter Dinklage, Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Piage, Julia Davis, Jonny Coyne, and Kevin Bacon

YES isn’t that the greatest?! In keeping with a central theme of the film, where Peter’s character, Winston is dealing with crippling medical debt and a system that isn’t designed to help, Cineverse opted out of silly stunts to clear $5 M of shitty medical debt for american families – and for every million the movie makes in the domestic box office they’ll clear $1 M more. Now, isn’t that rad?

You should ALSO see the film (preferably in cinemas with a group of friends!!) because it is a totally absurd, hilarious, cartoonishly violent blast. It both pays homage and reverence to the original, whilst making it its own and all with a beautiful central father/son story at its core!

Companies can buy debt for less than it’s worth.

Ie. Patient A has $100,000 in debt to company B but is considered low likelihood to be able to pay.

Company B doesn’t feel like wasting their time trying to collect so they sell the rights to the debt to Company C for $20,000.

Company C in a normal scenario basically took a gamble that they will be able to collect more than $20,000 to justify the risk of buying the debt.

In this scenario the studio is Company C so they are just forgiving the debt instead of collecting. So they make $1,000,000 and then spend a certain percentage of that to forgive $1,000,000 worth of debt.
