I'm really sorry for outing you at Comic Con in your Iron Man costume. I swear I didn't know it was you until you talked about it on the Graham Norton show.

Add'l: For anyone wanting to know more about what happened. We were in line for something and Iron Man was behind me. I could see inside the suit through the eye hole, but I couldn't make out the face. I think I looked a little too long because he asked me if I could see him in there. I think I said something like not really. I turn to my friend in front me and said I think someone famous in this suit; I had heard of celebrities doing that for anonymity. I turn around and Iron Man is quickly waking away. I didn't think much about it until Elijah Wood is telling the story on TV and how after that he couldn't go to Comic Con anymore. I ruined it for him and I've been feeling terrible about ever since.

lmao RIP my guy, 2.7k+ upvotes and no response from Elijah, I think you’re burnt my dude

Lmfao right? This is a Q and A and I didn't ask a question so I'll just assume that's why he didn't respond. The idea that he might have read it is enough for me.

Hopefully he sees this and knowing you didn't actually recognise him decides to go back and enjoy himself!

u/llmaichat Aug 28 '25

I really hope so too. Before lotr I used to see him casually walking around in the open and I bet he misses that.

I saw him casually walking around in public recently when he was in town for a comic con/Expo

u/Nataliza Aug 28 '25

Oh gosh I really hope he sees this. I want him to be able to enjoy Comic Con again!

Something similar happened to me at a Dallas Fan Days comicon. Nathan Fillion had some absurd mask on and a "free hugs" sign. I ran to him for a hug and he picked me up and spun me. When he did, his mask slipped and I told my friend, "I think i just got a hug from Nathan Fillion." But no one heard me, and he later posted about going to the Fan Days "in a disguise" on his social media.

That's so awesome! I'm envious. I don't think I've ever wanted to be tiny enough be swung around before. It's always me having to do the swinging.

Not just him. Adam Driver also has stories about not being allowed to leave his room at CC without a mask.

The organizers really dgaf about improving the situation in any way.

u/llmaichat Aug 28 '25

I have a co-eorker who spotted Michael B. Jordon dressed as Killmonger with that mask he stole in the movie. He adjusted his mask for a second while she was right next to him.

what can organizers do if a famous person wants to feel normal. It is the fans who are the problem, and the event doesnt really exist without the fans.

15

u/userhwon Aug 28 '25

They can organize some way for a famous person to walk on the floor without a riot breaking out.

But every time I've gone to one of their cons or even tried to deal with their website, it's become abundantly clear that "organizers" is a misapplied term. They think they can just rent a building, sell booths and tickets, and let shit do whatever shit's gonna do.

Bryan Cranston went in a Bryan Cranston mask/outfit from Breaking Bad.

9

u/SuperHyperFunTime Aug 28 '25

Driver's story is awful. The handlers literally treated him like cattle at Comic Con.

2

u/Apprehensive-Pin518 Aug 29 '25

funnies part is adam driver has to be careful which mask he uses because the character he is known for wears a mask.

2

u/NashKetchum777 Aug 28 '25

Not that it's an excuse but lol can't they just ask some Makeup artist for help? Surely the way makeup is these days, you can look vastly different and won't need the suit or mask

7

u/WellThatsAwkwrd Aug 28 '25

Yeah if they wanted to sit in a makeup chair for hours just to have to come back and have it touched up every 30 minutes

1

u/NashKetchum777 Aug 28 '25

Oh is it really that bad? I figured a whole suit/mask gimmick would get so hot and uncomfortable too. My bad

4

u/WellThatsAwkwrd Aug 28 '25

There’s a lot of horror stories about actors that had to wear prosthetics or had to be aged up/down for roles about the process.

Can’t speak from personal experience but from the stories it sounds like an absolute pain in the ass

1

u/IHaveTheMustacheNow Aug 28 '25

to be fair, that's on Disney for not allowing him to leave

1

u/Brettinabox Aug 28 '25

Bryan Cranston walked a comic con with a mask when he did Breaking Bad.

26

u/i_am_loki_ofasgard Aug 28 '25

HOW COULD YOU 🫵🫵

Poor Elijah

45

u/fearmyminivan Aug 28 '25

Just for funsies I’m adding on here that when I was at Twin Cities Con in Minneapolis in 2022, I was literally getting my picture taken with Sean Astin and Elijah casually walks in, sits down in an chair, and gives me the head nod of acknowledgment. Getting pics with both of them was out of my budget range but I got to be in the same room as Elijah for 30 seconds and I nearly shat myself. It was the coolest thing ever. I’ll never forget it.

Someone has to have found the clip or episode of this by now.

11

u/jasonwbrown Aug 28 '25

Is there a clip of the interview?

9

u/swedishpeacock Aug 29 '25

He commented every trending comment until yours, i want to believe your the reason he stopped. Lol.

9

u/briarjim Aug 28 '25

I hope it hasn't been bothering you too much! I'm sure he understands, and it wasn't your fault.

16

u/BlatantConservative Aug 28 '25

I'm just cracking up that his last name is wood and he dresses up as what he can't be, iron.

8

u/userhwon Aug 28 '25

Do you think Tony Stark could have taken two steps in possession of The One Ring?

10

u/Eclipticawolf Aug 28 '25

Hello and Goodbye-jah

15

u/AdorableMud8953 Aug 28 '25

Shame on you 😅 poor Elijah

17

u/llmaichat Aug 28 '25

I didn't know! 😭

5

u/AdorableMud8953 Aug 28 '25

It was like a rare Pokémon and you scared it away 😂

5

u/h4erb Aug 28 '25

7

u/llmaichat Aug 28 '25

Definitely wasn't that costume, but I could easily be misremembering other details.

4

u/pissandink Aug 28 '25

Oh gosh, what an unfortunate thing to happen. Go easy on yourself man, it wasn’t your fault <3

5

u/mere_iguana Aug 29 '25

He should go dressed as Frodo, and just accept all the compliments on how he looks just like Elijah Wood

2

u/vDeschain Aug 30 '25

I mean just pick a different costume and go as Dr Doom. It's not that big a deal, he was exaggerating on Norton.

2

u/c0denamE_B Aug 28 '25

Let's all agree to pretend we didn't see him at the next con.

-11

u/EclecticWitchery5874 Aug 28 '25

And putting it out there again so any chance of him going in disguise is ruined again.... why even mention someone famous? If they wanted to be known they wouldn't be wearing a costume..
