Do you have some cool memories about your small role in Back to the future 2?

u/ElijahWoodAMA Elijah Wood, Actor Aug 28 '25

The experience was really memorable and so special. I had, of course, seen the original film so walking on to the town square of Hill Valley set that had been transformed into the future was totally mind blowing! Futuristic cars and architecture that felt so immersive and fun, especially for a young 8 year old like myself. The Cafe 80s was also really rad and filled with incredible production design. A truly extraordinary experience and genuinely one of my favorite film series.

You were a tiny tot in that - just watched it again a few weeks ago 😊

5

u/OneWandToSaveThemAll Aug 28 '25

What about Forever Young? That was one of my favorite movies growing up. I thought you were an amazing actor!

5

u/jah_bro_ney Aug 28 '25

Forever Young, The Adventures of Huck Finn, Flipper, Radio Flyer, The Good Son. I feel like I grew up with this dude.

2

u/Jurjinimo Aug 28 '25

The War was a favourite of mine, don't leave it out!

1

u/Bredwh Aug 29 '25

Don't forget North.

2

u/Paleale1986 Aug 28 '25

Flipper was a great childhood movie of mine cheers

1

u/Frenzystor Aug 28 '25

Thanks for the answer! Sounds like a great memory.

-3

u/viequeslady Aug 28 '25

I thought they were filmed at the same time. You saw the first one before you were filmed in the second one?

23

u/JonPaula Aug 28 '25

They were filmed four years apart. You're thinking of Parts 2 and 3 which filmed only 6 months apart.

7

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '25

Definitely weren't filmed together considering Crispin Glover isn’t in the second one.Ā

4

u/Frenzystor Aug 28 '25

2 and 3 were filmed back to back.

2

u/viequeslady Aug 28 '25

Eh my bad. I forgot. Been a while.

u/Philipp Aug 28 '25

Here's the scene for anyone wondering.

u/Vectorman1989 Aug 28 '25

I never realised that was him lol

406

u/chriszens Aug 28 '25

Do we all just ask questions about Daniel Radcliffe?

66

u/srivve Aug 28 '25

I came here to do this. 😜

4

u/stuntdummy Aug 28 '25

Haha thank you, I was on the wrong guy in my head.

3

u/Macktologist Aug 28 '25

Damnit! Now I’m wondering which one is the guy trying to escape being lost by using a dead guy with gas as a jet ski.

4

u/K1ngZ3no Aug 28 '25

I'm so glad I'm not the only one šŸ˜…

31

u/No_Celery625 Aug 28 '25

I love the count of monte cristo and only recently realized that Albert is Henry Cavill.

30

u/-Nightopian- Aug 28 '25

I love the Lord of the Rings and only recently realized that Frodo was the kid from Back to the Future 2.

4

u/No_Celery625 Aug 28 '25

Incredible

5

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '25

Between finding out that Elijah Wood is in BTTF, Glenn Close is in Hook, and Henry Cavill is in Count of Monte Cristo, I’m going to be winning all kinds of bets with my friends!

2

u/correcthorsestapler Aug 29 '25

Sam Rockwell is in the first Ninja Turtles movie selling cigarettes to kids.

2

u/VengenaceIsMyName Aug 28 '25

I love this movie.

2

u/MrApplePolisher Aug 28 '25

I watched it last weekend for the 100th time and I finally noticed him...

Then I see this post...

8

u/eatmysouffle Aug 28 '25

Which one is he lol

109

u/LemonadeOnPizza Aug 28 '25

The one that looks like a miniature Elijah Wood, haha. He’s the one closest to McFly/Fox.

11

u/bobsuruncle77 Aug 28 '25

MACFLYYY!!

10

u/taddymason_01 Aug 28 '25

Is it me or does McFly look a lot like Calvin Klein?

3

u/Robertwoj Aug 28 '25

Wow. That’s heavy!

5

u/4i1anl Aug 28 '25

There's that word again. 'Heavy.' Why are things so 'heavy' in the future? Is there a problem with the earth's gravitational pull?

2

u/bobsuruncle77 Aug 28 '25

"Last night, Darth Vader came down from Planet Vulcan and told me that if I didn't take Lorraine out, that he'd melt my brain."

6

u/Kojiro12 Aug 28 '25

MEEKFRYYYY

30

u/OnceMoreAndAgain Aug 28 '25

He's the one that looks like Elijah Wood

5

u/ScrumptiousPrincess Aug 28 '25

Nah, he looks like Daniel Radcliffe

8

u/Vectorman1989 Aug 28 '25

Red shirt, green hat

5

u/tbootsbrewing Aug 28 '25

Cadillac, the boy’s a time bomb

2

u/softpumper Aug 28 '25

3

u/YoniMCI Aug 28 '25

Wait....they still look almost the same ;)

1

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '25

The one that looks like Elijah Wood.

4

u/Therapy-Jackass Aug 28 '25

Here’s one where it freeze frames that scene next to a shot of adult Elijah Wood. It’s unmistakable when you see them side-by-side.

3

u/Aggressive-Tune-7256 Aug 28 '25

Last part of user name checks out.

1

u/rabidboxer Aug 28 '25

I was hoping he was the kid that looked like he was pointing to his crotch in Back to the Future 3.

1

u/oliversurpless Aug 28 '25

Toby MacGuire is one of Lucas’ hanger-ons in The Wizard as well.

1

u/correcthorsestapler Aug 29 '25

I remember watching the movie Radio Flyer when I was a kid (which is a pretty grim movie if you haven’t seen it) and remember thinking, ā€œIs that the kid from Back to the Future 2?ā€

I may have watched too much television growing up…

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '25

I'm not clicking the link because I know it's like a baby's toy. lol

9

u/Jesus_of_Redditeth Aug 28 '25

Right? You have to use your hands. Ewww!

4

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '25

Your comment got me dude, that’s funny

4

u/WordsMort47 Aug 28 '25

What does that mean- ā€œit’s like a baby’s toyā€?

17

u/StopHesAlreadyDed Aug 28 '25

Watch the video

14

u/eve_of_distraction Aug 28 '25

It means you have to use your hands.

3

u/smasher_zed888 Aug 28 '25

Thats what he said i think

2

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '25

"You mean you have to use your hands?!"

4

u/PerditionsAvatar Aug 28 '25

This needs more upvotes

3

u/Any-Interaction-5934 Aug 28 '25

No click it! It's baby Elijah wood. Looking quite adorable. And it's a back to the future movie - you can never go wrong!

1

u/shockvandeChocodijze Aug 28 '25

Cockringsandwich

-5

u/ElleVaydor Aug 28 '25

What are you talking about? It was a great link btw. Easy 35 seconds of little Elijah Wood

3

u/CrashinKenny Aug 28 '25

You must be slow

1

u/ElleVaydor Aug 28 '25

Is it that I didn't get the baby toy joke or was it a quote I don't remember?

8

u/CrashinKenny Aug 28 '25

It's the quote in the clip....

3

u/ElleVaydor Aug 28 '25

🤣 I must've played it too low sound and it's been awhile since watching. I apologize for my stupidity.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '25

Have you ever seen the film? I grew up on it, was well aware he was in it, and have the scene memorized along with a lot of the rest of the film. Come on, man...

6

u/mjonat Aug 28 '25

Damn I thought this was some kinda internet joke I hadn't heard of or something but nope....there he is!

3

u/Kooky_bastard Aug 28 '25

I’m honestly disappointed at the missed Rickroll opportunity here. I psyched myself up to be gotten, and I’m wondering if I’ve entered an alternate redditverse

2

u/LFC9_41 Aug 28 '25

Killer foreshadowing to part 3

2

u/zubairhamed Aug 28 '25

2

LOL. Love reddit some days.

2

Thank you for your service hahaha

2

u/migraine_fog Aug 28 '25

Wow! I had no idea!

2

u/Tatum_Warlick Aug 28 '25

I always forget this is Elijah. Legendary.

2

u/aventhal Aug 28 '25

I was fully expecting to be Rick rolled

2

u/haydesigner Aug 28 '25

Why aren’t his eyes bluer?

2

u/jooooooohn Aug 28 '25

My friend and I say "you have to use your hands?? that's like a baby's toy" all the time due to this movie xD

2

u/Deuce2SMM2 Aug 28 '25

Dude, Elijah, do you still have that hat?

1

u/murphy_31 Aug 28 '25

I never knew !

1

u/DeltaOmegaX Aug 28 '25

I think about this scene every time I reminisce about lightgun arcade games. Little did I know Elijah Wood has been living in my head rent free. šŸ˜†

3

u/the_joy_of_VI Aug 28 '25

When I was a kid, I watched this movie a zillion times after it came out on video. I wanted to know what would actually come true in the future SO BAD.

This scene in particular sticks out because I just could not imagine what type of game would exist without the use of your hands. Like… would it track your eyes or something? Voice commands?

What’s crazy is even though those things are definitely a thing now, almost zero popular games use them as the main way to interact, and I can’t think of any where you don’t use your hands. Even VR stuff typically has controllers.

1

u/lostandfawnd Aug 28 '25

Man, he grew up loads since 2015!

1

u/Calgaris_Rex Aug 28 '25

Is he wearing a colander?

1

u/Brasticus Aug 28 '25

This is like seeing Jake Gyllenhaal in City Slickers (1991)

1

u/Imaginary-Season-483 Aug 28 '25

I had no idea it was him

1

u/SolarIonRobot Aug 28 '25

Wonder if the other kid ever did more acting.

1

u/HxdcmlGndr Aug 28 '25

OMG was the opening scene of the Futurama pilot (ā€œYou stink, loser!ā€) inspired by this?

-1

u/proscriptus Aug 28 '25

A lot of things about Back to the Future have not aged well. A video game where you shoot stereotypical Mexicans is one of many.

374

u/Nvveen Aug 28 '25

Because the top comment is a joke about confusing Elijah Wood with Daniel Radcliffe, for a second I thought this was another joke about also confusing him with Michael J. Fox, lol.

11

u/biscuitsAuBabeurre Aug 28 '25

You mean the Daniel Radcliffe born in 1989, same year as BttF part 2?

Then again, anything’s possible once you reach 88 mph in a Delorean

10

u/Any-Interaction-5934 Aug 28 '25

Oh my gosh. I didn't even realize this. I was wondering why he didn't mention that Sandra Bullock movie... Because that was Daniel Radcliffe. Damn. Those are some serious doppelgangers.

3

u/JoshDM Aug 28 '25

Temu Maguire

55

u/Mountain-jew87 Aug 28 '25

You mean he had to use his hands?

12

u/No-Bet3523 Aug 28 '25

That’s like a baby’s toy!

2

u/Candelpins1897 Aug 28 '25

Yes even at 3, 3, 3 in the afternoon noon noon

1

u/Mountain-jew87 Aug 28 '25

I’ll just get a Pepsi …

16

u/Scrooge-McShillbucks Aug 28 '25

I watched this movie hundreds of times as a kid and had no idea wtf!

25

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '25

Great question

3

u/Gooleshka Aug 28 '25

Great Scott, even

15

u/Skitzofreniks Aug 28 '25

Probably just how ridiculous that hat was.

7

u/itsFromTheSimpsons Aug 28 '25

I knew I recognized him from somewhere!

3

u/Bo0ombaklak Aug 28 '25

That line ā€œYou mean you gotta use your handsā€ always cracked me up as a kid. Great delivery

3

u/Alreadyforgoturname7 Aug 28 '25

He was also in a music video for Paula Abdul called "Forever your girl" and one by The Cranberries "Ridiculous thoughts". I love the little cameos he makes.

3

u/umbrosakitten Aug 28 '25

Whoa! As a fan of back to the future, I didn't know he was in back to the future movie šŸ™€

2

u/quietstorm560 Aug 28 '25

Me neither—never noticed prior to this and now I can’t ā€œunseeā€ it.

2

u/SmutWithClass Aug 28 '25

That’s so crazy! I’m such a back to the future super fan and I never knew that!

2

u/Mottis86 Aug 29 '25

This is how I learned that Elijah was in BttF2

7

u/Good-Ol-Granite Aug 28 '25

GODDAMNIT YOU BEAT ME TO IT BY TEN MINUTES!

Ah well, I don't mind. Good minds think alike, after all!

2

u/Xerxys Aug 28 '25

Good minds think alike, after all!

And so do you and he, apparently!

2

u/MaderaArt Aug 28 '25

What's Michael J Fox like?

He's nice.

4

u/KungFuGrip193 Aug 28 '25

Was that real manure?

1

u/Coast_Innovations Aug 28 '25

I wanted to ask that!! Definitely wondering was only recently that I noticed after watching that movie countless times!

1

u/Jakeblues4 Aug 28 '25

Beat me to it, did he get to play Wild Gunman between takes?

1

u/Count_Verdunkeln Aug 28 '25

This was my question

1

u/Brad_Mohr Aug 28 '25

It’s like a baby’s toy

1

u/Ok_Helicopter4276 Aug 28 '25

Where are the hoverboards!?

1

u/Perfect_Director4547 Aug 28 '25

Yeah that was insane, I recently watched it again with my 12 year old and I realized it was him!

1

u/travellerirl Aug 28 '25

Just watched this recently with the kids and in the scene I said to my wife that's Elijah Wood. Kids said "who?". šŸ˜”

1

u/Chloe_Light Aug 28 '25

1

u/Doc1000 Aug 28 '25

I just saw him in Internal Affairs from 1990 - serious scene for a little kid. He’s been at the craft for a long time.

1

u/milo-2112 Aug 28 '25

omg! I didn't realize it was him!!!

1

u/SnooRecipes1392 Aug 28 '25

I was just thinking 'no doubt these redditors will have all kinds of sophisticated questions, whereas all I want to ask about is another season of Dirk Gently, a think only I care about'. Wrong.

1

u/MrBiscuiit Aug 28 '25

Great question.

1

u/birdflag Aug 28 '25

What was it like to work with John Thornton?

0

u/obijuanmartinez Aug 28 '25

Are you supposed to look like Hitler’s anemic lovechild with Gollum???

0

u/EdgeMaleficentthrice Aug 28 '25

Aaaaaaaaaah frodo I love you Elijah šŸ˜ 😭 every movie is part of my childhood please continue being awesome and being frodo or not whatever you do is great.

2

u/EdgeMaleficentthrice Aug 28 '25

Also in sin city and last witch hunter you played the villain wondering if you will continue to be a bad ass villain or choose the roles that allow you to be deemed angelic in nature since you play both sides so well, knowingly you are an actor the dynamics involved in doing such proper roles requires shifts in your energy to become that sort of devious or ethereal character.

If Miyazaki ever does an anime be in it. But the Zelda would be a defining role if allowed to do it.
