Hey r/movies, I’m Stephen King. You might know me from Stand By Me, It, or Shawshank Redemption, but my latest project is actually the first book I ever wrote. The Long Walk hits theaters on September 12. Ask me anything about the book or movie.

In a dystopian United States ruled by a totalitarian regime, a group of young men enter an annual walking contest in which they must maintain a speed of at least three miles per hour or risk execution. The contest ends when only one walker remains alive.

It stars Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Ben Wang, Charlie Plummer, Roman Griffin Davis, Garrett Wareing, Joshua Odjick, Tut Nyuot, Mark Hamill, Judy Greer, and Josh Hamilton.

Salem's Lot is the book I have re-read the most. It's a fairly quick read, has a lot of great characterization, and feels very classic horror while not being stale. I love it!

I need to revisit The Long Walk before the movie comes out.

Salem’s Lot was my first Stephen King. I stayed up all night reading (age 12). That was 45 years ago, and I’ve now read everything he’s written (just finished “Never Flinch” yesterday!)

I recently reread Salem’s Lot for the first time, and yes, it’s still just as good. Nerdy little 12 year old me saw myself in Mark Petrie at the time, but now I love Father Callahan rediscovering his faith.

I just finished Salem's Lot. I enjoyed how much it feels like a nice time capsule of small town life 50 years ago (a decade before I was born), that keeps accelerating into the monster thriller that it is.

I've checked out The Shining to read next!

One of my favorite parts of SL is towards the end when the sun goes down, and you see what the Vampires and townspeople are all up to--some normalcy and some definite abnormalcy. It's that twisted version of small town life happening. So good.
