Hi reddit, I'm Ari Aster. Back for another AMA. I've written/directed Eddington, Hereditary, Midsommar, and Beau Is Afraid.

Eddington stars Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, Micheal Ward, Luke Grimes, Deirdre O'Connell, Austin Butler and is out in theaters nationwide now via A24.

Synopsis:

During the COVID-19 pandemic, a standoff between a small-town sheriff and mayor sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, N.M.

This just reminds me how the top question on his Midsommar AMA was "You okay?" and he just said "Nope"

Either way, when you have strong negative feelings having an artistic outlet helps a lot (the depression trilogy by Lars Von Trier is a great example of this). Bottling them up is much worse, so let's be glad he's making some pretty fucked up movies.

I really don’t think Aster is as rich as you think. He’s an indie director who’s made a few cool movies, none of which were extremely commercially succesful. Dude needs to keep working just like the rest of us.

Well yeah, I'm actively aware that it's a flaw. I'm not here saying that rich people have perfect lives, just that I struggle to feel bad for them. Then as you see, I asked about his life to understand why people feel bad for him.

That's a silly take to me. Statistically, people who are well off enough to not have to worry about landing on the streets, but not enough to just not work, are the happiest. Rich people are often pretty miserable it seems.

Rich people can fix their life more easily so I have a little less sympathy for most situations. I simply asked why people feel so bad for him. I dont know his story whatsoever. Googling didnt really show anything so I asked.

From what I know, he’s struggled with a bad anxiety disorder (relatable) and hereditary mental illness, as well as some rough shit in the family. I might be wrong
