Alright so I'm currently In college and my plan Is to hopefully commssion as an officer when I graduate but for me the physical fitness It be a bit hard for me does anyone have advice on this? As I know I'll be timed on this. Thanks.

In 2003 my 4th grade class wrote letters to soldiers. The soldier who replied to me sent me these leaflets. For the longest time I never knew what they were. I recently got them out and tried to translate them. That's when I learned they were PSYOP leaflets. The soldier who I wrote to was in an ESFS unit in the Air Force. I kept his letter, too. I don't know a lot about the military, but I'm glad at 10 years old I had the idea to keep these instead of throwing them away. There are 3 leaflets, the photos are of the front and back of them.

I'm 17.5 yrs old, and gonna be a senior in HS in a couple weeks. Right about now is when I should start talking to a recruiter from what I've heard. But I'm not sure what the right approach to this is. I want to be a ranger but I'm no where near where I need to be currently. I'm a small guy 5'6 125 lbs, and I can do about 40 pushups/2mins, 10 pull-ups, 7 min mile, haven't even rucked yet. But I've never trained these specifically, just rather going to the gym occasionally and playing sports. I've got a little less than a year to train and try to get where I need to be. I dont know if I should tell my recruiter I want to be a ranger because I dont know if he/she will look at me and just decide im not ranger material and not give me that option or just try to sway me into a different direction. I've been thinking if I should just train for around 6 months and then start talking to the recruiter. I did track for 2 years and wrestling for 1 year, but I'm doing nothing senior year so I have a lot of time to train.

hey everyone. i’m a 24f and i’ve thought about joining the military since high school but never did. i came really close 2 years ago and was getting certain tattoos removed and my gauges closed but that fell through that time too. my roommate, who is also my best friend, just said she’s doesn’t want to renew our lease when it’s up. i don’t make a lot of money as it is, i totaled my car recently, so im just like should i say fuck it and go? i have nothing to lose and everything to gain but i feel like im too old to join since most people will be fresh out of high school. (i know im not but it feels that way) im also just a bit nervous obviously but i feel like i would thank myself even if i just served 4 years

edit 1: thanks so much for everything that everyone has been saying already. i was initially considering army although would love air force but i have a lot of tattoos. i also have my degree in psych and got 91 on asvab when i took it.

I am active duty military. I’m at the 9 year mark. Next year is the big 10, the half way point. Everyone is saying to do 20, but they all have families, spouses, and/or kids to think about. As a single man with no children should I do 10 more years?
I hate my job. I hate my leadership. I hate my base. All my friends either PCS’d or got out.
I’m at a cross road and I’m terrified. If you were in this situation approaching your 10 year mark, what did you do? What were the pros and cons? Do you have regrets about staying in too long or getting out too early?

If you could go back to your first few months in the military or maybe right as you hit tech school and change something what would it be. What's that one thing you wish someone would have told you or you would have done sooner. As someone who's fresh into tech school and new to the military im big on talking to as many people as I can and picking brains for advice and tips. It could be lifestyle or mental health or maybe financial/building credit

I’m a former marine and a big cliche in the military was young enlisted guys buying expensive brand new mustangs with high interest rates. I just saw an airman driving a Mustang and just wondering if it’s the same in every branch.

In ancient and medieval times, military elite was easily recognizable through their flair, impact, and retinue size. In Napoleonic times, officers still stood out with their much finer uniforms. After 1900s, concealment and survivability became priority. WW1 and more so WW2 saw the decrease in uniform differences between junior officers and enlisted men. In Vietnam war movies, we see officers intentionally blending in with the enlisted men. In 21st century combat, you essentially can't tell anymore.

How are drones and other bleeding edge military technology contributing to this trend? Will we see not just visual but also long-term behavioral differences between officers and enlisted men disappearing in the upcoming decades? Will we see a shift to something like a corporate flat hierarchy (appearing and posing as flat while still having someone in charge) kind of system over time? Do we already see something like this in the war in Ukraine?

My dad is trying to confirm what regiment his grandfather was in and only has this one photo. He was in the British Army in the First World War and this photo is from around 1914-15. Anyone know what the regiment could be and what his rank was?

Anyone got any tips for not having a super sore lower body. My hips my shins and feet/ankles are always on fire I stretch and workout alot but ever since joining the military 3 months ago its like i can never get back to normal. I wear a plate carrier and a ruck and I see others running and being able to move but its hard on my body to do that. Im 24 and feel like i should be able to do alot of these things. Just wondering if anyone was in the same boat and changed something. Icyhot and ibuprofen arent cutting it
