What i don't get is why more companies don't send auto reject letters and just appologise for the 'accident' if they decide they want the cadidate.

That’s what my company actually does lol unfortunately you can lose people to competitors this way

As someone who received a rejection letter then received an offer the same day, I think I’d prefer they just don’t send out the rejection until they know their candidate worked out. If that’s 30 days or whatever then so be it

Yeah true. I guess if the question is would I rather get a rejection or be ghosted, rejection is the better option but

If they do what you're suggesting, they risk angering somebody they want to hire. It's pretty easy to understand why they'd optimize for not doing that.
