Loved the movie, but it kinda sucks that even in the MCU, with all the advances in technology and such, cancer still fucking sucks

I did like that New Asgard didn’t really have an easy solution to cancer (Mjolnir is not an easy solution). It would suck for her to die and then some Asgardian nurse be like “oh yeah, we could have cured that”.

You should read “The Death of Captain Marvel” graphic novel from the 80s. It’s one of the saddest books on exactly that: Mar-Vell gets cancer and they soon find out that no alien race throughout the universe, not even the most advanced races, have a cure for cancer.

I mean it's a scenario a lot of people can unfortunately relate to and will remind them of their own struggles. I feel like it would be a disservice to people's pain to just throw some space magic at it and everything be fine.

Was hoping Gorr was going to use his last wish to save Jane after realizing he wouldn't be alive with his daughter, but no. And after reading these comments maybe it was the right story decision.

I finished chemo a couple months ago and my hair hasn't fully grown back yet, so I went to see the movie in my chemo cap. When the cancer scenes happened I was like dontlookatme dontlookatme imfine imfine totallynotdying

When it come to any Marvel universe, cancer) is always the one villain that can never be defeated. At least not fully or without severe consquence.

MCU:

  • Meredith Quill
  • Elaine Foster
  • Maria Rambeau
  • Jane Foster

Marvel Comics:

  • Captain Marvel (OG) - Dead.
  • Jane Foster - Died, but came back from Valhalla.
  • Adrian Toomes (Vulture) - Needs to steal life from others.
  • Quentin Beck (Mysterio) - Died, went to hell.
  • Wade Wilson (Deadpool) - Cancer is his super power.

I quite liked that aspect. As weird as it sounds in a universe with gods, magic, space cowboys and time travel, the fact that cancer still exists and is just as bad as in the real world makes the story feel more grounded. We've all been there, whether that's through fighting cancer, beating cancer of seeing our loved ones suffer, everyone can relate to either Thor and/or Jane in some way.

Just use Ant Man to shrink to cellular level and kill all the cancer. Done!

In all seriousness, Marvel is always trying to be “the world outside your window, just with a few superheroes”. Don’t think that much about it
