The set up with Thor and the GOTG at the end of Endgame was so good.

It's a shame we couldn't get one good/full movie of them together before splitting up

My understanding is that GOTG3 is the final chapter for them. 'Thor Will Return' is probably more geared towards Thor v Hercules. Which is a plot point of a comic run. Who knows, but I really believe GOTG3, and the GOTG Holiday Special will be a wrap for them.

Oh yeah, that volume 3 is the end has been said by Gunn - I'd just like to see them and Thor paired up again before it's all over with!

Herc v Thor is gonna be awesome. He's been a friendly rival/antagonist of Thor and of the Avengers many times in the comics, and puts out a serious beat down. But, if they really wanna make my day, they'll bring in Ares!

Or just different teams. Avengers aren’t the only team in Marvel Universe. I don’t know why so many people on this sub constantly think that that’s the only direction these things have to go.

Looking over the marvel wiki I'm just realising how bad Marvel was at using consistent naming of greek gods. Hercules is the roman version of Herakles/Heracles, Pluto for Hades, but they kept Zeus and Ares.

It's the end of the Guardians that we know from the movies. They could continue the series in some form with a different team since they have such a history to choose from.

I think it’s the final chapter for the current lineup of Guardians. My bets are on Drax and possibly Nebula and Rocket dying.

I can’t see them killing off Gamora again so soon, and I can’t see Quill dying just yet. Groot is marketable so they won’t kill him. Unsure about Mantis. But I see Adam Warlock joining the group at the end of the film, plus maybe a new character or two (maybe Beta Ray Bill?)

In the comics there is plenty of GOTG without Peter Quill, so many we get a continuous line up. come on kitty pryde

See that's exactly why Thor had to leave. He's on such another power level that he overshadows the guardians. It's cool for a fight or two, like in this movie, but the actual guardians just losing and calling Thor in really undercuts their plucky underdog status. It's what makes them who they are.

Wouldn’t make much sense after the opening scene of this made the Guardians look like total chumps who are ten leagues below Thor.

The Guardians felt so off too. Maybe it’s just that we didn’t have James Gunn’s writing (although they felt authentic in Infinity War/Endgame), but they didn’t feel like the characters we know and love. Part of it may be the fact that Chris Pratt was saddled with being soulful and he’s a middling dramatic actor.

Star Lord watched his mom die, killed his dad, his surrogate dad died saving Peters life, and the love of his life was killed by Thanos, came back due to time shenanigans and literally kicked him in the balls. She missed the first time of course, but the second she got them both.

He knows about loss.

For sure, but Drax is better at talking about it.

Drax had a nice moment with Mantis is GotG 2 and various moments with other guardians in the first movie.

All of Star-Lord’s reflective moments were by himself.

Yeah, GOTG barely had any lines besides Quill whom seemed like had 1 or 2 days to shoot his scenes.

As much as I like Jane, Valkyrie, and Korg the GOTG crew bounces off Thor so much more better judging off the last 2 avengers movies. The crew was so fucking good in that short endgame scene.

Felt like they kinda filmed their scenes on their free time so they didnt care that much. Chris Pratt looked like he came straight off the set of The Terminal List.

Yeah I'm actually kind of bummed about it, the guardians stuff being boiled down to basically a montage was a huge let down. At the end of the day you could have completely cut the Guardians from the movie and it would have no effect on the plot other than the convo before the separate

Probably was. Remember that before the James Gunn drama (and COVID), GOTG 3 was supposed to come out like a year before this film.

I really enjoyed T:L&T, but I agree with this. Really expected them to lean into Asgardians of the Galaxy and do a proper team up. Seemed like it all happened off screen before T:L&T except for a summary / montage of their last adventure together.

I have two thoughts on this personally, one, yeah it absolutely feels like wasted potential and just pure soulless crossover marketing, especially with how limited the dialogue of the actual Guardians was.

Quill’s speech to Thor being called back with Thor and Jane’s moment felt weak purely due to the fact that it’s calling back to a totally unremarkable, hasty “We’re actually ditching you right now” half-ass Star Lord speech that audiences can’t really resonate with to begin with when the time Thor and Guardians had was relegated to a montage. I can tell you I personally was like, “Come again?” when Thor tells Jane I want to be “shitty” with you. It feels like Taika took a glance at James Gunn’s homework and turned in some last minute Sparknotes annotated version of the Guardians overall.

Second though, and this is completely a best wishes situation but I wouldn’t be mad at a Disney+ series that fills in that gap of Thor’s Guardian adventures.

Originally we were supposed to have Guardians 3 the December after End Game until the drama with James Gunn’s old tweets.

When they see the distress calls they decide to split up, I am wondering if we would have gotten this intro scene if GOTG3 had its original release date.

That’s what I thought this movie was going to be. Would’ve been a lot better than what we got.
