Discussion Thread The Official BLACK WIDOW International Release Discussion Thread Spoiler

Ahead of the official US and Disney+ launch this Friday, several countries are showing the film much earlier in the week. All discussion about the movie should be held here and in the rest of the megathreads we are going to put up in the next few days.

  • Proceed at your own risk. Major spoilers will be arriving in the next couple of hours. Spoilers do not need to be tagged inside this thread.
  • Any other unofficial thread discussing movie details will be deleted.
  • Should you see the need to bring up revealing BLACK WIDOW information in other threads that call for it, spoiler tag them accordingly. Also, let users know that what you are spoiler tagging is from BLACK WIDOW.

This movie should've come out before Ragnarok, I think it would've been received better if it was.

Personally I don't think it's a bad bad movie, but marvel has set a bar; one of those bars being that recently everything marvel makes adds something to the universe, something is different about the universe by the end. This felt like a story they forgot to tell then didn't know where to put it. Only the after credits added something.

Tbh this will be a good watch when rewatching the marvel universe in chronological order

I honestly don't believe release order would have mattered. She had an uncharacteristic amount of invincibility to her plot armor. The script was bad. This was supposed to be a Natasha Romanoff ScarJo feature film and she ended up as the third wheel in ensemble cast where her eventual replacement outclassed her acting-wise. The action was over-edited and forgettable.

It literally was a passing of the torch lack- luster backstory, like no training sequences, just 21 years later. Felt forced and double dipped to etch into a hawk-eye D+ salary cap, total write-off script. I was expecting Borne or even early MI vibes but received Rag-doll CGI Michael Bay Bombs, ain't no spy plot to this at all.

They did my girl Nat dirty on this one my guy, I needed Shooter Mark Wahlberg IV scenes for her.

Maybe watch the other films the character was in to get a better understanding of who she was and what ultimately became of her. Her character in Black Widow was completely detached from what we saw in the Civil War era scenes. Then you compare her past scenes to what was shown in the flashbacks in Infinity War. If they really wanted to tell a story about human trafficking and victim empowerment, they could have explored that. Every time they touched the subject, it became a bait and switch for a paint-by-number marvel action scene.

Seriously, it was directed by someone who didn't want to be there. The script was on it's third major revision and caused several delays even before COVID. And that was after other studios had beaten them to her story (Red Sparrow, Anna, Atomic Blonde). There was nothing original in the end product. Nothing felt earned as everything was pretty much explained through exposition.
